1. 5/5Easy to Use but Needs Clearer Pickup Instructions

   I recently used the Food Lion app to place a grocery pickup order and overall, I found the experience quite positive. The app is very user-friendly and provides multiple notifications via email, text, and push notification, which is helpful to stay updated. However, finding the actual pickup location was a bit challenging. I arrived at 2:00 PM for my 2:00-3:00 PM pickup slot and notified the app that I had arrived. By 2:15 PM, I was unsure if I was in the right place, so I called the store. The employee who assisted me was very helpful and promptly brought my groceries out to me. One concern I had was after the checkout process; the app reverted to a Boston location even though I am in Delaware. Fortunately, the pickup was correctly scheduled for my local store. While the app is easy to use, I would appreciate a more specific timeline for picking up orders rather than the current one-hour window. This would help make the process smoother and more predictable. Overall, a good app with some room for improvement regarding pickup instructions and timeline specificity.

2. 1/5Consistently changes to the wrong store

   The app and the website both are constantly trying to change me back to a different store that I have never shopped at before that is three times as far from my house as the store I pick. I keep changing it back every time I catch it, but the most recent time I did not catch that it had changed it, and I ended up sitting at the wrong store waiting for my order. The second I realized that that was what happened, I called the store that the order had gone to and said I would be there in 10 minutes. When I got there the person who brought out my was incredibly rude to me, had a horrible sour face on and said “you know you’re not allowed to press the button until you’re actually here” when I explained to her what had happened because apparently whoever answered the phone had not, she did not respond to me at all, she just silently put the groceries in my car with that same sour face on. I know that there’s no single person in charge of the staff at individual stores and the app, but they work together to create the entire customer experience and my customer experience today was abysmal. Not only did I have to do an extra 20 minutes of driving for a grocery pick up that I paid money to make quicker, I got the joy of being chewed out by the person who brought out my groceries, and not even receiving a apology when she realized that it was not my fault.

3. 1/5You can order things but app is useless otherwise

   I get that maintaining an app database either prices, sales, etc is difficult but food lion has over a thousand stores and should have an app that can give detailed information about an order. I had an order sent to a different state and the app does show it as cancelled or reversed. I called the store but the app shows nothing. I had to look on every page of the app to find relevant info on how to cancelled an incorrect order. I’m on a limited income. I’ve not had food for three days because the first incorrect order was all the money I had. I have kidney disease on an extremely limited diet. I’m so miserable. The chat function in the app doesn’t answer any questions. It will say “sorry I can’t help with that “ and offer suggestions relevant to the covid 19 pandemic in 2020. It’s 2026 I’m not worried about contactless delivery and mask mandates. Do better food lion. Food lion is the only grocery store in my town. Once this order is resolved I will never use this app or this store again. Update: still no refund on order sent to wrong food lion in. Wrong state. I’ve called the store and corporate but nothing. Friday overnight will have been a week. I’m annoyed any hungry. I don’t have money for other groceries. This store is a joke. No care, no concern. Nothing but attitude and the app offers no status or updates

4. 2/5Terrible app design

   This app has never been great but since the switch from food lion to go to combine the apps into one, it has gotten worse. If you want to find an item, you need the exact terms. The app isn’t smart enough to give you similar items. For example, I like the refrigerated queso but if I type “queso” in the search bar, it doesn’t show up because it’s actually called “cheese dip”. This is not a stretch and food lion should show me the cheese dips even if I type queso. Also, the chat with your shopper feature is delayed for pickups. I don’t usually get notified anything is out of stock until they are already done shopping so I can’t discuss substitutes and I just get surprised at the store when half my order isn’t available. The chat link also glitches a lot. The text feature was better and it can be quite cumbersome to get the chat link to open. There is also a significant delay in prices and ads updating weekly. I like to place a grocery order in the app for pickup. But if I want a Wednesday pickup and I want Wednesday sales, I have to wait for all the prices in the app to update. Even though ad took effect at midnight last night, now at 7am, my app is still showing last week’s prices so I can’t place my order yet. Not sure why it’s so slow to update. So many bugs and problems with this app

5. 5/5Best grocery app/store ever

   I grew up with food lion being the only place to shop in my town, and now as a college student living in a big city it’s still my favorite place to shop. It’s always affordable, the staff is always friendly (even if you can tell they rather be somewhere else) and I felt like my first step into adulthood was taken when I received my MVP card. The app is an amazing addition for me because I have my MVP card in my Apple wallet, and my shopping list is right in the app! It makes meal planning extra easy before I go in store! It’s also a huge plus that I can check the prices and prepare/budget myself for the total of my groceries each week. Living as a college student can be hard to manage but planning ahead is the best way to save! I also know food lion is no wegmans (👎), but they have everything I need and not to mention the best deals around town! Somehow, I can’t help but smile when I walk through those glass doors to the white tile, cold air conditioning, scent of cart cleaning wipes, and sound of the low low low prices calling my name. Xoxo, a true mvp.
