"body": "The staff at the pier advises everyone waiting on the queue to activate tickets ahead of the ride before the ferry even arrives. Main issue with this is they cannot guarantee spots on the boat and we got bounced twice on the busy weekends unable to get onboard and then got told we have to wait 30-60 minutes for the next weekend ride because there are no refunds once the tickets get activated on the app. I call this misinformation or potentially borderline scam. Better wait till the ferry arrives before activating and do it at the gate before scanning to board to avoid overcharge and missed paid rides. I get that the window to travel on the ticket is 2 hours, but if one needs to get to destination on particular time then they need to look for alternative means of transport to get to the destination without option to “wait for the next boat” which may arrive too late or worse - be full as well.",

"body": "More than once have I clicked “Use Tickets” and the ticket begins to load. It freezes at load screen and any attempt to restart, including pressing X or closing the app results in the tickets being used but not available for scan, effectively taking away my tickets and my money. I scan my family and myself in which results in multiple tickets lost from a flaw like this. With increased fare prices this type of mistake where i lose my tickets just to be required to purchase more is unacceptable and intolerable. There should be a record or refund system to address this problem and restore lost tickets. Riders should not have to risk paying twice per person for a single ride while using the app.",

"title": "Functional but Disorganized",
"body": "I use this app often. Its functionality is crucial to me and fairly reliable. I seldom have any issue purchasing tickets or using them. That said, this is the most disorganized transit app on my phone. Most of the time, departures are accurate. However, I've been left stranded a handful of times by out-of-date information. To get to information, you press on your departure station, never your destination. This can lead to confusion -especially when routes and stops share the same name. I'm often helping people at the pier. A separate section organized by routes would be helpful! It would also be helpful if users could acknowledge the service alerts. On days when there are several service alerts at once, there is a frustratingly small space for the user to browse schedules. Alerts can't simply be swept away; you're just stuck using the bottom 15% of the screen. And nothing is alphabetical!!!! After years of using this app, I'm just realizing the stops are listed in order of their distance to you 🤣",

"body": "Tonight I attempted to take the last ferry from DUMBO to North Williamsburg and it was a complete mess. Dozens of tourists were in the wrong lines as for most people ERA and ERB is confusing and they need more guidance. Once the ferry came it was at near-capacity and only a handful of people could get on. NYC Ferry should extend its weekend hours in the summer to avoid scenarios like these. Even worse was that once the ferry left many tourists had no idea that was the last ferry (clearly marked in app) and workers would not communicate that fact. This experience makes me less likely to ride and support the current ferry system contractor as a NYC tax payer. Ultimately, I want a refund for my ticket as I was unable to take the ferry.",

"title": "Worst user interface in the whole App Store",
"body": "The behind-the-scenes functionality of the app is fine, mostly. But the user interface/experience is probably the worst in the entire App Store. It’s pretty clear that nobody programming this thing has ever tried to use it in real life. It should be used in UI/UX courses as an example of how to do everything wrong. Just mind-blowingly incompetent. Please, just fire the entire UI/UX team and hire someone else — anyone else. Here’s just one example of the hundreds of failures: suppose you have one ticket already bought, but you want to buy another so that two of you can board the ferry. You can’t. Literally everything is like that in this app. Ask yourself: “What is the obvious, most helpful way to implement some particular feature?” And you can be sure they did it some terrible other way.",
