   DO NOT GET THIS CARD unless you love being on the phone for hours with frustrated customer service reps talking about issues that no one can help you solve. So, this company is trash. I have a score of >800, and chose this card for a supplementary options since it purported to have great rewards, none of which I have seen. I spent the appropriate amount of money under the time allotted, and have yet to see any rewards. ALSO, with all of my credit cards, I can see exactly what I owe, but discovered requires that you keep a minimum balance, so you’re basically required to pay interest, since you can’t see what you owe to pay off your card?! Also, I set up auto pay, like I have for all of my bills because I’m an adult, and discover, somehow, always removes me from auto pay, so I just have to log into the website monthly to make payments. I’m a millennial so this isn’t user error. I’ve called several times and then on the phone for literally hours trying to resolve both the auto pay and the getting my rewards issues to NO AVAIL. I stopped using this card because I’m never able to fully pay off what I used during the month and also I have never seen any rewards or cash back- the whole reason I got this card. DO NOT GET. Capital one is great, or literally any other company. It’s 2023 in America, people expect more from their companies.

2. 5/5Love Discover

   As a customer of Discover Card for more than 30 years, I can honestly say that this bank has treated me better than any other bank. Financially, I’m in great shape now and I don’t need much help. But when times were tough, I was always able to call up Discover and they worked with me to get through the rough time. Once or twice a year I notice credit line increases, which tells me that someone is paying attention and silently saying “Thanks for being a customer. We like you and trust you. Here’s some more money, go have some fun.” It’s my lowest interest rate credit card, so I’m not really worried if I can’t pay it off in a particular month and need to pay a little interest on the next statement. They don’t crush me with ridiculous interest. The rewards are excellent. I save the reward money for the end of the year, and it literally pays for Christmas. And every now and then I’ll take a personal loan to cover a big expense, which is an effortless experience and is nicely managed in the app. Thank you Discover for being a great bank and helping me fund my life over the years. Keep up the great work.

   Unlike so many reviews here, this is an actual review of the app, not Discover’s bank cards… Been using the Discover app on iPhone and iPad for several years and been very satisfied with it. However, in January of this year (2024), the app started displaying only the last 3 weeks of transactions. Even when applying the handy date filters provided, it’s a no go. Not only that, but the drop-downs that allow you to select specific dates are utterly cryptic — they only display 2 columns heading with periodic headers of “S” and “M” followed by random numbers — what does even mean? This lack of date functionality makes it absolutely useless for tracking down any transaction that occurred more than 3 weeks ago. Want to see if a check you wrote a couple of months ago has cleared? Forget it — unless it cleared in the last 3 weeks, the app won’t display it. Set the date filter to show you the last 3 months of transactions? Nope, you only get 3 weeks’ worth. The website works, so I’ve been using that instead, but I really miss the app. I sent in a detailed explanation of the problem to customer service in January. Rec’d a thank you, and that’s it. App is still broken. I’ll update this comment if they ever fix it. In the meantime, forget this app if you have a need to see more than a 3-week timeline of what’s going on with your money. Very disappointed in both the app and the lack of attention or response from Discover’s developers.

4. 4/5Rotating categories just makes me have to check my phone

   This whole fact that I have to look at what categories I will be getting how much cash back just gets irritating because every certain month 5% cash back on products and/or services changes. Some people like me who sometimes might not have the time to look at their phones to check with what card they will get more benefits doesn’t satisfy them (and me) as much. If I was able to get to choose a fixed category on the 5% cash back earned, I definitely would be using my credit card conveniently with more financial advantage. For example Capital One gives a Savor One card for people with a One Bank account so they can get 3% cash back on dining and entertainment. Another example would be Bank of America, where they offer 6% cash back on a fixed category of choice (no rotating category). I have given 3 stars because of Discover’s sense of financial security they give to me, and that they email me to let me know that everything is going well. Their representatives are great with their clients and they know well how to solve problems that could be major and minor. This review is meant to be informative, and I have zero intent to do advertising of any banking institution. This is just to give an example of credit card functionality and how Discover could to better from my perspective. Otherwise Discover would be rated 5 stars by me.

5. 5/5A Simplistic Overview

   I’ve been using this application for a few months now, and I’d like to comment on it from the point of view of someone who isn’t much of a “power user” and simply wants to monitor his statement at all times. That’s all I use the app for: to be kept alert of my purchases in real-time. The notification options seem pretty diverse, allowing me to set the app to alert me when I’m within a certain amount of my credit limit, or when I’ve made a purchase above a certain amount. These are common and basic features, but the app handles them elegantly and well. The usage break-down is plenty detailed, and let’s me see date, time, and even location (I might be confusing this with an Apple Pay feature, but I doubt it) of all expenditure. The most important thing, of course, is monitoring my current balance. This app makes is as easy as it can be. It has this “quick view” feature that you can enable to check your balance from a Notification Center widget. It’s also visible by 3d-touching the app icon from the home screen. In addition to this, there’s a companion app for the Apple Watch which also shows balance, though it’s a bit counter-intuitive in that it displayed the credit LEFT in bold numbers, while keeping the credit USED (what most people care about) in a tiny size underneath. I’ll also say that their iMessage app does nothing besides redirect you to the main app, but to be fair, I can’t imagine any reason I’d want an iMessage app for this (unless it allows you to send money to other people, of course). Regardless, it’s an all-around solid and functional application.
