1/5The update makes the app even worse
The Sonos app has always lagged, and a 5 to 15 second delay when searching and selecting songs has become expected. But with the new app it takes upwards of a minute for the whole app to load, and there is such a delay and load time that you can hear music coming out of the speaker and the app is telling you nothing is playing!!! This also makes changing volume near impossible as you slide the volume to what you think is the desired point, and you have to wait up to a minute wondering if it’s even going to change. All this is awful and has become expected from Sonos, but the new User interface makes the app hands down the worst user experience on the Apple Store. Gone is the main page menu button to add or remove devices… you can’t be sure what device is playing what song (partially because the system doesn’t load) because instead of showing you your speaker lineup on the main screen it instead shows you suggestions and music you have listened to in the past. I have to click through at least three screens to even get to the speaker I want to change the music to, so why am I being given the music first whiteout being able to select the speaker I want to play first… that’s the whole point of the app right? To manage your speakers? Or is this just trying harder and harder to be a Spotify/Apple Music app that has connected speakers? This app experience has me seriously contemplating scrapping my entire Sonos system! At least go back to the more intuitive awful app because this one is awful and unusable!!!

5/5Sonos Dev Team, I hope you are listening
The app update is almost unusable. Lots of new bad reviews are warranted. I have several Sonos systems and used to be able to go seamlessly to my different locations. Now the app acts like it has never seen my other systems and I need to reconnect sometimes several times in a day. I can no longer easily navigate to the music I want to play nor can I easily see or decide what is playing next. The app controls don’t fit on an iPhone screen for some crazy reason you can’t Read some of the buttons and you will need to back out several times just to find out where you are within the app. Anyone, including Grandparents and kids used to be able to jump on the system and easily use it. I now have friends family and employees telling me each day they can no longer interact or get the app to function. Is the volume now controlled by ai? Seriously it does not even slide up and down smoothly, it is almost like it is trying to anticipate where it thinks you want the volume rather than allowing you to move the volume slide on you own. I hope you are listening and you can steer the ship back to where it was heading rather than where you turned it. The new app is almost a deal breaker. This is coming from a Sonos lover with multiple Sonos systems and an early adopter and promoter of the system. Thank for considering this.

1/5Why?
My family and I have been loyal Sonos customers since 2007 (I think they had only started in ‘05). We have stuck by through the various changes and bricking of old components (that we paid good money for and still sounded great), and we bought the updates (more money!) but still loved the way the system worked throughout our house/yard. (Over the years we’ve convinced countless family and friends to buy the system as well. If we were salesman for the company we’d be big earners for sure.) …with all that said, I can say with no hyperbole that this app update is the worst I have ever experienced. There are too many nuances of the new app that make zero sense that I am not even going to take the time to list them all here, but it takes me a good 10-15 seconds each time I turn it on to remember where to press to search (not the least bit intuitive) and it glitches daily. For example, just now I was trying to put a song on and, no exaggeration, it took at least 4-5 button presses to even get to the song, then multiple presses (nothing) and finally a completely different song played (my son thought it hilarious, so that is something). After the change, my wife took the app off her phone and actually refuses to use the system- she simply uses Bluetooth stream to the speaker. For the love of God, Sonos, put it back to where you had it before this latest version! Seriously. This is the worst, and I swear you’re going to lose loyal customers like me as well as those we talk to.

1/5Practically unusable
Update to my previous review: now half the time (but only half!) when I open the app to play something I get a message that no Sonos products are found on my network. I have a speaker hardwired to my router, so I know this is wrong, even if the WiFi or SonosNet connections weren’t working for some reason. I’m not having any other issues with my network, which is extremely reliable and has dozens of other devices stably connected. This is truly infuriating. I can’t rely on this system at all anymore and have started looking for alternatives to replace the whole system. — previous review: I’ve spent thousands of dollars on Sonos speakers over the years and the changes they’ve made to the software has made them practically unusable. I rarely bother putting anything on the speakers anymore because every single time it’s a complete toss-up whether I’ll be able to adjust the volume, change what’s playing, or even stop the playback. Lately the app is so glitchy and unresponsive that I have to press the button on the speaker to stop the music or—since I have young kids in my home and have the hard buttons disabled on some of the speakers their little fingers can reach—I have to unplug speakers altogether. In years past I’ve added Sonos products to my home as Christmas presents etc. This year I didn’t, and I won’t until these problems are fixed, if ever. I certainly can’t recommend the system to anyone in good conscience. Such a shame, because it used to be great.

2/5Amazing hardware; terrible software
I have been an owner of Sonos speakers since the very beginning. I have thousands of dollars of their equipment and their innovation in the audio space and the quality of their devices are amazing. Unfortunately there is a big ‘but’ to this story. Since the release of the S2 app (which is vital to operating the hardware) my opinion of Sonos has gone down significantly. Many people will point out that there were feature takeaways in the move from S1 to S2 - and this is true. But it’s not the missing features that are the problem. It’s the reliability and performance of the core experience that is at issue. The new app (after being out for several years now) is fundamentally flawed in its ability to manage the most basic and simple aspects of running your Sonos hardware. Speakers will stop appearing in the app forcing you to reinstall them repeatedly, response times are laggy causing you to wait for long periods of time to switch between music sources or volume changes, there are too many ‘clicks’ to get to the music you want to hear, and there’s to much advertising - we already bought your devices, if you continue to delight us; we will buy more. Sadly, Sonos, even after a CEO change has not improved and does not delight us. I want to love Sonos so much, and did in the early years, but now I don’t and find myself wishing there was a legitimate competitor in this space that was passionate about the customer and creating a world class customer experience. I would gladly give them my hard earned dollars.
