1. 5/5Just what we needed!

   I tried to order the Midea UShaped AC last year, but due to Covid and shortages everywhere, it was always back ordered too far out to be able to get one in time for the massive heatwaves hitting So CA. So this year, I put one in my online cart in May, and promptly ordered it when I got paid. It sat on my porch for a month because it weighs too much for me to install alone. Luckily, we’ve had a mild beginning of summer here, but just this week temperatures are climbing above what my Boxer and free roaming bunnies can tolerate (anything above 80 is life threatening for bunnies). Today temps were predicted to reach 89 outside, so I begged a neighbor to help me pick it up and place it on the included bracket (which I installed yesterday), and I was able to complete the installation, connect to my internet, and integrate it to my Alexa app before it was 83! The bunnies are incredibly happy as their room is nice and cool at 76, and I can feel the cool air reaching the bedroom already! I love the quietness of this machine, it’s not bothering the bunnies at all, and frankly it’s so quiet I had to check to make sure it was actually on (I felt the cold air so it’s definitely on!). Just hoping we can get through the hottest months now without any heat related issues. It’s so difficult in a 100 yr old building to keep cool with electric outlets too far from windows or blowing breakers. The one window I can use for AC unit is now fulfilling its mission!

2. 4/5Good App: Super Convenient, Easy to Use. Not Accessible to People with Visual Impairments

   Basically the title. I’ve never reviewed an app before, but this app is super easy to use and not too hard to connect. Connecting your A/C does take a minute of fiddling because it uses an unexpected method, but the instructions are very accurate. It’s pretty, it offers even more technical options than the actual buttons on the air conditioner unit, and it connects via wifi instead of Bluetooth, so you can be anywhere in the house and still work it. So if you’re like me and lost the remote, then this is absolutely amazing. I can set my A/C from my living room two hours before bed and come back to a cool room with the fan going and the LED temp turned off (you can easily toggle the LED display, beeping sounds, and units of degrees). It’s perfect. You can also set and save a personalized sleep-mode or schedule if you want so that it changes temp throughout the night/day and turns on and off as you wish, but I haven’t set that yet. Great app, easy to use, and beyond convenient…if you can see it easily. WARNING FOR THE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED: If you find it difficult to see small things, this is not a good app for you. The font is small and thin, the features are displayed very compactly for a simple look, and the colors do not contrast well at all. Imagine small white font on a light purple background. I have not found a way to change this in the app, and increasing font size or contrast in Apple’s accessibility settings does not alter the text within the app. This is a good app for those who have strong vision and good color differentiation. However, this app is inaccessible to people who need increased readability.

3. 2/5Humidifier wont connect to app.

   Ive been trying to add my device in the app for about 2 hours now and this garbage app wont connect. It keeps telling me my wifi password is incorrect even though i know it is correct and i even tried to get it to connect in my sisters house with her wifi and it just continues to tell me the password is incorrect when it 100% is not. If you buy mideas products just know you might not even be able to use the app at all because of its buggy programming. (UPDATE: im moving it to two stars instead of one because eventually it decided to actually work and connect my device even though i did nothing different from the other many times i tried to add it. And im still quite upset because i like to have all my IoT devices on my guest wifi to have them segmented from my main wifi i use for university but for some reason whenever i connected it to my guest account, which also took a million tries, it would show up as added but not update any changes i made on the app at all. It only worked properly on my main wifi so i had no choice but to connect it to that one which was actually giving live updates and actually worked like it was supposed to. I don't understand why this is causing me so many issues when both wifi channels are 5 and 2.4Ghz. The reason i wanted to segment it in my guest wifi was because i don't generally trust any IoT devices in my house like smart tvs or smart fridges because their bread and butter is not cybersecurity and theres been many instances where people may gain unwanted access to your network by exploiting weaknesses in IoT devices like this humidifier. Either way i guess i have no option but to keep it running on my main wifi…)

4. 1/5SPY APP! DELETE IMMEDIATELY!!

   I downloaded SmartHome to control my Midea home dehumidifier. I just downloaded the app and was only using it for approximately 15 minutes when I had noticed that the green notification light for the front facing camera in my Dynamic Island window for iPhone 16 Pro Max kept illuminating sporadically every few seconds which means that this app was secretly, illegally and actively accessing my front facing camera for those entire 15 minutes. Luckily I’m intelligent enough to have all of my cameras covered up with stickers. The front facing camera sticker is very tiny and only covers the camera. The green notification light is still visible. All camera access was denied to the app so my front facing camera notification light should’ve never been illuminating at all while using this app. Every app that I have downloaded into my phone has been denied camera access. The ‘SmartHome’ app was accessing my cameras because that green notification light does not lie, unlike y’all. This is a Chinese spy app. Delete it immediately!
