1. 1/5Meross devices are GARBAGE! 🗑️

   Update: if anyone needs further proof of how nightmarish it is trying to get anything done when your Meross stuff inevitably stops working, look at the essay they have ready to go for troubleshooting. What a joke. I wish I could get a refund on this lousy smart surge protector. ————— After my horrible Meross Smart Surge Protector setup glitched because of Meross’ absolutely terrible app, it left an duplicate entry in my Apple Home page that could not be deleted through the default Home interface. There was no “remove accessory” or delete option and it was infuriating. Home only showed “device not responding” and I was completely stuck. I am extremely tech savvy, but this problem was a monster. I was ready to delete the entire Home and settings that I had so carefully set up and start over from scratch, but decided to do a deep dive on my options before going nuclear. It took more than an hour of searching through forums, but another commenter suggested trying Controller for HomeKit and within about 30 seconds of downloading the app, I could delete the broken remnants of the garbage Meross surge protector! If you have the same problem, you’re going to need Contoller for HomeKit. In a nutshell, learn from my mistake and do NOT buy Meross products. They are slow and unreliable at best and will fail and clutter your Home app so that you consider subscribing to a $30 app just to clean up the mess their stupid products make.

2. 5/5A garage door opener that opens…

   This is a good app/product. Now, one funny thing to keep in mind (and so you don't make the same mistake I did): the parts attach to the metallic frame of your garage door. And metal, over time, can contract/expand a bit with temperature. Sensors have to align for the app to deem your door is closed or not. This means that, in the cold midwestern winters, the app might think your door is open (or closed) when it is not. This is something to keep in mind when you set it up to automatically close after a certain amount of time. So, there you have it. It took me longer than I'm willing to admit to figure out while my garage door would open in the middle of the night on the coldest days of winter: I had the app set to automatically close if opened overtime. Metal has retracted. Sensors were not quite aligned, app thought that meant the door was open ...and was trying to fix. Leaving it wide open!

3. 3/5Missing Ability to Share Devices

   The app works fine, but if you have a bunch of devices (lights or garage door openers, for example), the only way for other family members to get access is to share the same account credentials. This means giving them my password and full admin access for all devices. What other apps like this offer are a way to select devices and an administrator or user level access to them and you can invite them to make their own account with their own login snd password. This would also let me know who turned a light on or left the garage open. Right now it always me because everyone uses my account. It would also be useful to restrict opening the garage from far away. Even I sometimes accidentally open it on occasion when I’ not home. Yes, sometimes I find it useful. But I don’t think my kids have such a need. But there’s no way to restrict that completely or ask me if I really want to open it when far away.

4. 1/5This is not difficult!

   I have many Meross products all with home kit. I use the outlets for everything especially the holidays. I recently installed the MSL 120 BR30 and MSL 120 KIT lamps and things went sideways it seems there are issues between the app updates to the lamps/outlets and talking to home kit. The BR30’s are in an eternal update status even though they have been updated through the Meross app. Home kit won’t trigger the automation or even acknowledge the existence of the lamps 90% of the time. Currently I am using the Meross app exclusively so this is a problem given the sole purpose of purchasing these lamps is for the home kit usability. Now on to the Meross app. I am not able to adjust the intensity or color options within a certain scene which is way simpler than creating a new cue. For instance if I want to go from a normal everyday daylight look on the perimeter to a Christmas look I should be able to change this within the edit scene screen. If you are going to produce products to appeal to the automated world you should at least do the proper R&D and quality control. Anything that just sits on a network and is completely controlled by application triggers is merely maintenance. Light goes on and off at a certain time at a certain intensity and color or when cued, Outlet goes on and off at a certain time or when cued. Provided the products are on their respective network this is not a difficult task to achieve if the software is actually functional. I think the same could be said for Apple home kit as well, I am sure this is not all on Meross. Let’s get it together!

5. 1/5The New App Update is Horrible

   The new version 3.0.0 software update is a huge disappointment. The new user interface is horrible. The old interface had large animations on the app which were well done. The new update made all of the widgets much smaller and photos that you add are now too small to even see. Part of the reason that I always liked the Meross product line is the app was well done and the old user interface was very easy to see and use. If the new version 3.0 is the only version of the app available, I will no longer recommend Meross to other people. I restored my phone just to go back to the old user interface and turned off updates to the app. But now, one of the 3 way dimmer switches that I have is not usable without updating the app which will cause me to go to the new user interface that I don’t want. There should be a way to select if you want to use the old original UI or the new screens in version 3.0 that I would never select.I understand that the new UI design has smaller widgets or icons so more accessories can fit on the screen, but it just does not look or work as well as the old version of the app prior to the latest update. The design is very poorly done. Also the new screen for routines is poor as well. Overall the new app update is awful and a huge step backwards. I think that there will be a lot more negative feedback from other users.
