  1. 5/5Home Assistant is a total life changer!!!

Amazing!!! I’ve been in IT since 2007. So naturally I’m all about tech. I was turned on to Home Assistant by a couple of colleagues while working doing a lot of migration work due to an unfortunate acquisition. I started hard core from the get go. Deployed to my hypervisor environment and adopted a ton of Zwave, Zigbee and wireless later on Bluetooth devices. Just an amazing technology!!! Thanks to the developers and the many that have been a part of building and supporting such an amazing set of tools. I’ve found ways that this can help so many things… Thank you for all of your hard work!!!!

  2. 3/5It’s cool if you can use it

I had my hopes up after hours of research of looking for a way to integrate all my ecosystems and condense it into one system but the setup is really costly confusing and not very practical for the average run of the mill Joe I I understand this is the “companion” of the whole system but still was hoping it would allow me to develop a basic system then maybe in the future upgrade to a more expansive and intricate system. Getting support is like walking into a room full of aliens everyone judging on your language and computer programming knowledge little to no advice or anything for the average consumer to set it up I got as far as getting a ip for my system but due to no eithernet on my pc I couldn’t fully complete it to be able to build it if you have the money to spend and knowledge and dedication to provide to computer programming and data processing ect this app is neat for that but it’s not that user friendly with people who don’t have any to limited knowledge of computer programming. I really would like an interface that’s simple and can be easy to pickup by your average Joe. I initially became invested in this company after wanting to make my ecosystem one collective whole but fell short on ability, knowledge and cost. Granted the tools for service are provided in the online community but it’s still very confusing and often involves modifying safety on ur devices so until they make an interface as simple as plug and play im unable to use it which is disheartening after hours of research and EVERYONE in the smarthome builder community raving about this it’s just to complicated and wish it was more simple and affordable for everyone.

  3. 1/5Waste of time

I have to restart the server (raspberry pi 3 / 4) every few hours. I started with a raspberry pi 3, thought that it may be outdated, then bought a raspberry pi 4 and set up the OS on that. That was still no better. Each time I set it up it works fine for a few hours and then it’s nowhere to be found on my IOS app. I have to go unplug the server each time to reboot it only forward to work for a few more hours. The same thing happens on my laptop and my LG tablet. I thought this was supposed to eliminate apps, instead I have to keep all the original apps as well as this useless app that only works when it wants to. Reddit and Discord hasn’t been any help so far as all My questions get skipped over and I never get a response. I feel like I have wasted countless hours trying to set up a miracle app that everyone swore would be my end all solution, when Alexa already worked 100 times better, and only took seconds to set up. At least now I have two raspberry pi’s that are free. The original one I plan on using as a server for my outside security system like I did before. The other, who knows, maybe I’ll finally emulator I’ve always wanted. All I know is I am done with Home Assistant.

  4. 4/5Great app with a crucial flaw

Great app (which basically hosts the web UI of HA), but it has an Achilles heal: if you start the ssh web terminal from the Home Assistant Supervisor, you have no way to exit it again. The left-arrow pointing to the “Advanced SSH & Web Terminal” add-on page doesn’t do anything. Seems you are in a tmux session, but killing it from a different session doesn’t undo the fact that the app thinks you should be in the ssh terminal and will return you to the new spawned tmux session. Badly explained, but tl;dr: don’t enter the ssh web terminal! Update: odd experience when I migrated HA onto new computer: my iphone connected immediately, my ipad refuses to connect — tried removing the server from the app, reinstall the app, deleting the access token for my ipad, no cigar. Oddly safari behaves the same, so clearly not an issue specific to the app.

  5. 4/5Good for Tech Savvy

I’m definitely NOT the market for Home Assistant Green. I can tell that Home Assistant is prepared to solve all my frustrations with HomeKit, but at the expense of a lot of other frustrations I’m just not equipped to solve. On launch, about four of my thirty devices connected natively with no trouble. But making Meross bulbs already in my home work with it has been a nightmare of code-tinkering. Just adding the necessary Add-Ons is complicated; there are few “Click to Install” steps, and most of what I had to do involved unclear instructions clearly designed for people with more engineering cred than I’ll ever have. The app is no doubt great for people who know what they’re being told; but I really need more “Click to Install” level stuff.
