1. 5/5Convenient supermarket list

   This is one of the very few supermarket apps that has a functional shopping list. You can pull from the in-app weekly ad, special offers based on your shopping (ex, it knows I buy Outshine bars and often gives me a special for little extra off that other shoppers don’t get), or add your own items. You can sort by category or customize the list order, and check things off as you add them to your cart. It has the couponing you expect; just remember to enter your phone number at check out. There are also in-store coupons you scan with the app from barcodes (but you have to have signal in the store - please improve that, Shaws!!!). I even use it at other stores because it just works. It’s a little kludgy and could use a few helpful hints, but it’s the best I’ve found. (As of today, it was updated to include the Monopoly game; we’ll see). Update May ‘19: still like the app very much, except for one thing that drives me nuts. They often include specials that aren’t in sold at my store. You have to identify which store is your regular store and then you get ads and prices based on that and close by locations. For ex., there was a special on Method Laundry Liquid this week. The small store in town didn’t carry it, but neither did the regular size store, ‘My Store’, in a nearby town. If it’s not carried at my designated store, why am I seeing it? Why do I have to pick a store at all? The app still needs better matching to actual store inventory.

2. 5/5Can’t Leave A Good Thing Alone

   As others have stated, the update is terrible. I used to have ease navigating the sales items and special just for U deals. Now everything is discombobulated, confusing to follow and isn’t even functioning properly. Every time I go into my app it doesn’t recognize my account and shows I have no rewards or points added which I know isn’t true. I then have to either delete and restore the app or mess around with it in order for my rewards to even show up. When I try to use it in the store while shopping the same thing happens and I don’t have the time to go through all those steps. When I look at the updated version of the app, it makes me think this was thought up by a bunch of corporate people sat around a board room, patting each other on the back. There’s no empathy for the customer, only for their bottom line, the profit. To those corporate people at Shaw’s: Sorry drive up and go got launched too late and isn’t taking off the way you wanted it to. Stop punishing your customers for that and maybe go back to that board room and come up with some better ideas.

3. 2/5Failed AGAIN

   I’ve been using the app for years, through countless updates and versions. Every single version (literally EVERY one) has at least one critical flaw that renders it nearly impossible to use. During the pandemic I actually switched grocery stores to one that offered free curbside pickup but I came back to Shaws because of the good deals and sales. Since the last time I used the app there have been big changes, many which seem great. However, the critical flaw this time is that when browsing for items, clicking “ADD” puts it in a shopping cart for online purchase, not on the shopping list I use when I’m in the store. I get that Shaws wants to promote online shopping but at least give me a choice about whether to buy online or add to my shopping list!! At the very least have an “add items to shopping list” button on the cart screen. Right now the only way to add items to my shopping list is to manually type in every single item I want to buy. Even worse, after typing everything in manually they just end up in the “added items” category on the list making it even more unusable. At this point I’m out. I might occasionally check out the Shaws circular and make a quick trip for specific deals but I’ll be permanently switching back to the more expensive grocery chain (Hannaford). You know, the store that actually takes the time to make sure their app is actually functional for the ways people actually shop. Shaws has great deals and sales but the savings aren’t worth dealing with the ridiculous mess of an app. FAIL.

4. 4/5Happy/frustrated

   I worked very hard with my limited technology skills to download the app and walk through all of the ordering… Leading up to check out, and utilizing the option to deliver because prior to all of the time putting in my order, the app suggested that I would be able to pick up this evening (the day before Thanksgiving) Which was very important to me. Unfortunately upon checkout, I did not have the ability to order for pick up this evening… I called the store and they told me that they had plenty of availability, but that the system was apparently down if I couldn't put my order in. They couldn't help me manually. So I was left with the choice of placing the order and having it delivered… Which with the holiday is a minimum of 48 hours. Very frustrated that we won't have the stuff tonight, for tomorrow- that was the whole point of the order. But I understand that things happen.... I love Shaws, and I appreciate the discounts that were available… I live in a residential facility with 45 other people them to shop there as well. This instance just happens to be really frustrating to me because the holiday is tomorrow and the app that I would be able to pick up my order tonight. I spent over an hour and a half, learning the application, searching for items, making the order- and finally checking out.

5. 3/5Digital coupons NEVER work

   Shaws in Hillsborough is the only grocery store in town. There prices I feel are kinda high, on certain things. They have the market cornered. Every time I use the app to clip coupons, they never work. I was told by a few employees that the registers don’t pick them up, I’m thinking then it’s time for new ones! When I clip a coupon I am at the service desk. Many times I don’t have the time and leave thinking I will bring it in next time ( almost always forget) it is very frustrating!!! I feel like it is stealing from your customers!! The cashiers ask “ would you like your receipt?” Many say no, not even realizing they never got the discount that is owed them. People work hard for their money. This isn’t right. On a few occasions I was owed more than $20. One day I was behind an elderly couple. The wife told the cashier that it didn’t ring up right. The cashier said” it’s a digital coupon “ and the wife “yes, I know, I clipped it” after she left the young girl explained to me that she thinks people lie about it!!!!! I then was standing behind that woman at the service desk! Are you kidding me?!?!I now screen shot my clipped coupons!! What is the sense of having digital coupons if the registers don’t pick them up? Stop stealing money from hard working people! Do better Shaw’s!!
