  1. 1/5The “Optional” Subscription Makes The App Useless!

The Ring doorbell is what the company is most known for and it has a lot of great in app features but only if you’re willing to pay an excessive monthly subscription fee. The Ring doorbell or any other Ring camera isn’t cheap, and unless you pay for the “optional” subscription that’s required if you want to use anything other than “Live View” makes the entire Ring platform useless. Most other doorbell’s and security cameras give users access to at least some recorded footage whether it’s a 24 hour period or a week of included storage these other company’s allow users to be able to decide whether they just want to be able to access recorded video in an emergency situation or pay for the premium features that are the same features Ring offers at a much more reasonable price, and some give users the option to use a MicroSD card to store even more footage without a subscription. It’s ridiculous that if there’s an emergency event that my Ring Doorbell could record the doorbell won’t record any footage to share with law enforcement unless I spend hundreds of dollars a year on a subscription! The other features are nice but not necessary, and they’re definitely not worth the subscription cost. I highly recommend other video doorbell’s and/or security cameras because the Ring platform just isn’t worth the cost for the same features other companies offer either included with the device purchase or for a reasonable subscription fee.

  2. 3/5Please Restore Viewing Orientation to Previous Settings

Like so many other users have noted, the orientation for viewing the camera live view no longer provides control to the user, when using device in landscape view. In order to see the full scope of the camera view, I must now turn my iPad to portrait view. This is VERY inconvenient when I need to see the activity right away. Many people choose to use their tablets in landscape view and most every app I have accommodates that choice. Ring used to. This must be corrected. Additionally, I must use the snooze feature daily for my Chime Pro. Years ago I could chose how long the snooze should be on, from 30 minutes to 12 hours. For quite some time, the choices available omit 5, 6, and 7 hour increments. I need 6 hours. How can you possibly assume people do not need some flexibility when using the snooze feature? I decided to voice this concern since it seems to not be an issue for others. As for the AI adds, I agree with other reviewers that their placement is not preferable and can hinder when one is trying to connect to a camera/doorbell and respond through the camera. My devices are much older and should not have any AI capabilities, and even if they do, I will not allow that to be turned on. I do not allow Alexa, Siri, Grok, or any other non human computer program in my home or vehicles, and quite frankly, never intend to do so. The Ring system we have used is to protect our home from any threats, not to invite them in on a red carpet by the same Ring system.

  3. 1/5No Effort to Fix Obvious Problems

There are some really obvious problems with the app that owners have been complaining about for years. But Ring hasn’t made any effort to address them. The largest being that users have little to no control over notifications. When someone comes to the property to deliver a package, do landscaping, etc. you can get 40, 50, or more alerts and notifications. Your phone, iPad, etc vibrate nonstop for however long those people are on the property. Of course the whole point is that you want to be alerted when someone comes within the system’s purview, but once you’ve seen “oh, its the landscapers” you can’t easily mute the notifications. And then there is the fact that you can’t hear the Ring alarm if it ever goes off because Ring doesn’t offer any wired sirens. Ring allows a single third party to sell battery only sirens that burn through their battery quickly and consistently lose their connection to the system—of course there is no alert to let you know that the sirens aren’t connected. You have to be lucky enough to check and see that they are no longer connected. Again, you can find these same complaints going back almost 7 years and Ring still hasn’t fixed them. But they sure have put a lot of time and effort into making sure the app provides more advertisements for their products. I setup my whole system with Ring but I’ll be slowly replacing their products with that provide better user experience.

  4. 5/5It’s a little pricey, but well worth it.

I have three cameras at different spots of my house. Two have the solar power panels, and one plugged in to a power outlet. For seven years I have had at the push of a button, the live view of all areas around my house. There are a ton of settings so you can make the cameras work as you want them to. The motion detection is spot on, alerts are usually legit and what I asked for, and I can now watch all three cameras live right on my screen. That’s a recent feature I truly enjoy. I also love the sirens on each camera, and the voice warning people they are being recorded really comes in handy when shady people walk too close to my front door. All in all, it is expensive as the annual price to use this system is a little more than I would like, but honestly, no camera has let me down, and other than a few random disconnects, have always been there when I needed them. I say go for it if you want a tried and true company helping keep you feeling safe and in control. Oh and the Cameras and solar panels honestly, are not too pricey so getting in the door won’t break the bank. Just be aware the annual fee to use this system is quite expensive, and they do try to upsell you quite a bit. Thanks for reading.

  5. 5/5Not impressed - does not work

I purchased a ring 2 doorbell. I also purchased 3 of the ring flood light cams. I installed the doorbell but not the floodlights. Installation of the doorbell was very easy. I replaced the ring doorbell with my previous doorbell using the existing wires. The doorbell works like a doorbell, however, all I have is an expensive doorbell. I installed the app on my iPhone. I receive motion events and doorbell alerts on my iPhone, however I cannot answer the doorbell from my iPhone. The app is very slow. All I see is a spinning circle on a blank screen. The app has never allowed me to answer the the doorbell. I can view motion events long after the fact. The motion events are choppy, not very clear, and the audio is extremely poor. My doorbell is only 15 feet away (through the wall of plastic, wood, and drywall) from my router. I called ring. They had me conduct some tests. The technician determined that the WiFi signal was not good at the front door. The technician said I needed a WiFi extender and would send me one. If that doesn’t work I will return my ring products and look for another solution. The ring products are not cheap. I expected more. Ring support was responsive, but could not resolve my WiFi issue with the ring doorbell. I have an expensive doorbell. It rings when someone pushes the button but I do not receive the ring alert on my phone until long after the person is gone. Some local girls were selling Girl Scout cookies. They were at my door for at least a minute and a half. I did not receive the ring alert until many minutes after they left. I would not waste my money on this product.
