1. 5/5Love my 800 Grill/Smoker, the easiest and cooks with the best flavors

   Love the grill and how easy it is to cook with minimal effort while using the meat temperature probes (up to 4). I recently had an idea for the app alerts after my son basted my turkey while I went inside for a moment, he accidentally put so much butter on it it fell onto the box (325F), it flashed while I was still away and fire charred the bird. Wondering if there was a way the app could recognize when the set temp is lower vs actual temperature rising higher than the set temperature then triggering an alert. Hope your able to make that improvement on the app. Other than that I can’t stress how much I love cooking on my grill and all the complements I get on how good the food flavors are when they come off the grill BTW I also use a combo of charcoal, lump and real wood for excellent flavoring.

2. 4/5App and smoker are great, but needs some advancements…

   The smoker is awesome! I just love it! As a previous stick burner guy (and still kinda am), the smoker hits all the points. Loved that it is charcoal based and can use real wood vs pellets. Just ain’t the same with pellets. I’ve had no connection issues with the app. But I wish when selecting temps for the probes, if I choose custom, I want to input an exact temp, not increments of 5 degrees. Let us set a temp in increments of 1 degree. I’d give the app 5 stars if I could do that. Update: after latest update, probe temp fluctuate a lot. Moved around within 5 degrees. That’s a lot. Didn’t do that before the last update, which I’m assuming came with a firmware update for the grill. Please fix this. Update: newest release now app is broken. Real time readout of the grill temp doesn’t move and the protein selection isn’t visible for setting up probe temps. New update: Masterbuilt has still not fixed the app. I’ve put a support ticket in with them and they apparently think listening to customers is optional. I got a pretty bulk response that they will send my info to their app support team. Yet, here we are still without a working app. App is per much useless in its current state.

3. 4/5App could use some work

   The app is fairly basic. I like the idea of the new graph and history chart. But it has never really worked out well for me. I don’t have all the other connectivity problems that other people mention, and for the most part, the app works well. But it is fairly basic. For example it has recipes but no way to search them. Why would you add functionality like that with only filters and no search? Another example, when I leave the app to get support, it just dumps me at the Masterbuilt website with no direct links to support topics related to the model of smoker I have. And more bizarrely there is no easy way to search for accessories and replacement parts. The Masterbuilt website has always been a bit disappointing, and this app continues that tradition. On the bright side, when I reach out to customer support directly I tend to get help, but the self-service options are plainly lacking.

4. 2/5Constant issues

   I have a gravity series 1050 smoker. Nearly every single time I use it I have to delete my smoker and completely reinstall it in the app. Masterbuilt has sent me two different modules with the Wi-Fi antenna and I continue to have the issues so it has to be with this app on the rare occasion the app does work, once I get in the app there is a small square in the middle of the screen that will not go away. It looks like a button, but it does nothing when I try to set the temperature in the app. It works maybe 10% of the time if I’m lucky, there are a lot of opportunities with this. I’ve deleted the app re-downloaded it, make sure it’s consistently up-to-date, made sure there were no network issues, made sure that my phone and were on the same wireless network and the issues continue. Theoretically, this would be great, but the reliability of it is very poor. The actual smoker works great, but one of the reasons that I went and got it was because of the option of having the app and being able to be remote and control it in the first place. because of the issues with remote connectivity, even when I’m standing right next to it, I cannot recommend anyone by a Masterbuilt smoker if this is something that they are looking for because it is not reliable at all and has given me nothing but issues.

5. 2/5App & smoker won’t stay connected or re-pair

   I have used my smoker 5 times and each time I’ve smoked something that tasted 8+ hours. It gives me updates of the smoker temperature, and set the temperature and cook time when I tried it for the first time today. Each time though, after a few hours, it won’t remain paired. Today everything was fine (3.5-4 hours) until I tried to change the set temperature from the app. It gave me an error telling me to re-pair them and I followed the instructions it gives for re-pairing, which are minimal, and it didn’t work. The previous times I tried to re-pair it using the full process for setting the smoker up from the beginning and it didn’t work either. Each time I used the smoker the next time, days or a week later, when I power on the smoker and launch the app together, it consistently pairs correctly. So when I powered it off the previous time with them not working, didn’t do anything afterwards and it powers on fine. Today, I set the temperature and duration with no problem after the power on and again after a while the cycle repeated. The panel, cabling, antenna and insulation are installed as per the instructions and haven’t been damaged. Also, I get way too many notifications that the set temp is reached. The temp fluctuates a lot triggering the extra ones, yet I didn’t open the door or remove and replace the device used to add wood chips.
