4/5Alerts Inconsistent
Recently purchased the Chef IQ Smart Cooker 640. Easy to install and connect. ‘Talks’ to the device just fine. Review loses one star for two reasons. (so far) My first test worked beautifully, however, on the second attempt, (as I eventually figured out) the app could not communicate with ‘the cloud’ Tried various methods to reconnect. Wound up deleting and reinstalling the app. The other is that the alerts are not consistent. Been ‘playing’ with the sous-vide functionality, which starts with a pre-heat before actually adding the food. There is no alert when the preheat is complete, after multiple tests. (IMHO, there should be) That being said, I do get an alert when the cooking is complete. (Both sous vide and pressure cooking) and the best thing is that the alerts that are actually sent, are mirrored on the Apple Watch. On that note, a watch app would be awesome, that, in addition to the alerts, could show the remaining cook time. But that’s probably too much to ask. (Also a ‘Clear All’ option for all alerts). Other than that, great job.

4/5Lots of great features, the best so far
It measures accurately. I also like how the developers have coded in knowledge of various cooking techniques and have built in timers and notifications for steps in those techniques. So, you'll get time to flip, as well as early removal so that time to coast up to desired temp is observed. A lot of cooks will set the temp to the desired target, and not take the piece off until that temp -- not realizing that it will likely continue to increase in temp for about ten degrees F during the rest. Medium becomes well done, and they're confused. But not with Chef IQ. And that's a really nice feature. The other thing I really like is the base station, which you put near the cook, and it sends data via wifi to the app. Much better than Bluetooth, and the range is significant. Improvements? I have an offset smoker, so the numeral markers on each probe became black and basically covered over by the second cook. It would be much better to give each probe handle a distinct, bright color that would show through the glaze of the smoke. But here's the big one: a notification if the ambient temp drops below a certain degree. For offset smokers, cooks are a slave to watching the temp to make sure we don't lose the fire. We're often burning one log at a time, so this can be tricky. If we had a temp notification when it got too cold, we could free ourselves to focus on other things, a let the app dictate and even estimate when it was time to feed the fire. Overall, very happy!

5/5Spectacular!
Love the smart thermometer. It tracks internal and ambient temp perfectly. The integration with the app is flawless. I love how you can save cooks and see recipes. It will give you a step by step of what to do and when, which is nice if your trying or cooking something new. I just can’t say enough good things about both the app and the thermometer. Only issue is I want to get a second thermometer but so far I haven’t seen a way to purchase one with a number 2 on it. If you buy a single thermometer it has a number 1. If your buy a 2 pack you get a number 1 and number 2. But what if you buy a second one later? Can you choose one that says number 2 on it? Not the biggest deal but would be nice to have a way to differentiate between the two.

2/5Great device, poor app design
Love the thermometer probe. Our burgers, steaks and pork tenderloins all cook without worrying about timing the cook. That part I really like. I also like the Apple watch integration. Not having to be near my food constantly as it cooks is great. It lets me know when things need to be done (flip, for instance) and when the food needs to come off the heat. Now, the app. For some reason, it wont quit notifying me that my cook is done. Days later, I am getting notifications. I dismiss the app. Still get notifications. I would think that after I tell the app my cook is finished, and turn OFF the hub, it would stop. But it just keep pestering me. Today is Sat. I just got a notification to remove my food for the burgers I cooked on Wed. They need to fix this. Annoying. The other issue: I want to bulk delete the notifications. No option for that. For an app that is notifcation-happy, I should be able to easily get rid of the large number I have in my system.

3/5Good thermometer, meh application
I use the app with the ChefIQ CHEF HUB3-V-2. The model supports 3 wireless probes that have proven durable, reliable, and accurate. I don’t like the app. I find the dashboard space is poorly used. I cannot see the most relevant information without my glasses. The situation is the same on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. There is room to increase the font size, but the layout prevents it. When displayed on my iPad, the situation is no better. The format adjusts to fill the larger space but the font for the temperatures remains small; much smaller than the name of the probe which is reasonably sized and a little irrelevant since the default names are “Probe 1, 2, 3.” The interface relies on a series of user inputs in response to prompts regarding meat, cooking method, and taste. It’s clear and straightforward and gild a good result. I am frustrated at entering a simple manual temperature. For example, if I know, I just want it to beep when it hits 135°. I still have to use the menu prompts and it still takes six steps to enter three numbers. At times connections are lost and the application seems unaware of it. For example, the temperature will no longer rise as cooking continues and the remaining time will no longer adjust. The probes charge quickly and last quite a long time. It’s not difficult to keep them charged. If you simply connect the hub while you’re cooking. That will keep the hub charged, and the hub will charge the probes.
