5/5The Joule App makes this smart oven to the next level!
The new Smart Oven with Joule App is a game changer! The app is so easy to install and use. The included recipes are from Chef Steps plus Williams-Sonoma Kitchens. We soon will have other renowned chefs adding more recipes to try with the recipes. Recipes include all items needed plus cook times. Autopilot is an amazing multi step function that can change the temperature and function without ever needing to do it manually! After you press start, the oven handles the rest! You can see the progress in your iPhone as the machine automatically cooks in various functions. For long cooking food such as the rotisserie chicken, you can go to the gym, pick the kids up at school or even go to work! The oven will alert you when coming is completed and ask if want to it to keep your food warm! The Joule app consists of recipes that show the exact steps with additional video clips if you are not sure of the process mentioned in the steps. ANYONE can prepare precisely prepared fabulous meals with the Element IQ precision based cooking plus the Joule app. This oven has the Breville well known ‘A Bit More’ and favorites buttons plus 13 presets to use independently from the Joule function. Presets include broil, bake, roast, toast, bagel, cookies, pizza, slow cook, proof, air fryer, dehydrate and keep warm. Fun features are the auto eject rack and brighter rack numbers with this new addition the the Breville lineup of ovens. Non stick interior wipes clean. Stainless steel exterior. Included are several different pan accessories plus the air fry basket.

4/5Good app for trying new recipes
New app update fixed my issues below. Now I just see recipes designed for my Smart Over Air Fryer Pro. _______ I own a $400 Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro. When I first learned about this app, I was super excited! How exciting that Breville is supporting their high end kitchen products with custom recipes! I scanned the bottom and registered it which was successful in the app. Now I will get customized recipes for my Smart Oven Pro! So imagine my disappointment when every recipe said it was EXCLUSIVE TO or OPTIMIZED FOR the $600 Joule oven. What a joke! My $400 Breville SOP can do the exact same functions just not quite as automated. I finally discovered that some recipes have in “tiny font” that “You have a device that can cook this. Select this.” underneath the large Joule oven font & picture. I selected my SOP, but I have to do this every single time! Thanks for stabbing me in the back Breville! I will currently never buy a Joule bc by then you will probably be upselling me on the next model. Recommendation: Please Breville support all of your Smart Oven customers! When a customer enters in a supposedly compatible oven model, filter out the incompatible recipes. Automatically switch the recipes to use oven the user registered. Give them a decent experience! Of course, throw in the very occasional ad for the new model. These are the very basics of how you win and keep customers.

3/5Improved, but not enough.
I bought the Breville Joule Air Fryer Pro Oven specifically because of the app. I had already had a Breville air fryer pro that did not have the Wi-Fi connectivity or the app and liked it a lot, but wanted the ability to control the oven remotely. I was very disappointed, the app was very limited. While I am glad to see that Breville has expanded the usability of the app, it is RIDICULOUS that, although I can set it up to do things, I still have to go to it physically to start it operating. This is a huge drawback ! None of my other app control appliances have this silly limitation. I have an Anova Combi Smart Oven that has a wonderful flexible app where I can do anything from the app I can do from the oven directly. I have a dishwasher I can start remotely, I have a washer and dryer I can start remotely, and many smaller appliances as well. Breville get a grip and fix this by removing the limitation or at least give users the ability to shut that restriction off. While you claim that the restriction is “for safety“, that is nonsense. The Anova app will only start the oven when I affirmatively tell it to, likewise the washer, dryer, and dishwasher.

1/5All useful functionality is missing or broken.
It’s like the devs were given specific instructions not to include any functionality people might actually want. - Gimmicky “recipes” you’ll probably use once for the novelty and never touch again? Check. - Setting the temperature? Nope. - Setting the time? Of course not. - Preheat? You wish. - Stopping the oven? Yes! - oh wait it just throws as error. - And even if one of their preset options happens to do what you want, you can forget about anything useful like starting the preheat from the couch, or scheduling your toast so it’s ready when you get up, because the oven won’t START unless you press the button on the front of it in such case you might as well not even bother with the app in the first place. Only useful thing I’ve found it does so far is show how much time is left and notify you when it’s done. The stupid thing is it clearly *can * do all those other things but the functionality has been deliberately not provided. Remote start I assume they think I’m just too stupid not to burn my house down. Why you can’t do something basic like set a specific time and temperature instead of hoping the app has the food in its list and trusting its judgement, I have no earthly idea. As it stands it feels like I mostly just lit $100 on fire by upgrading to the “smart” version of the oven. Honestly it just makes me wish the June oven wasn’t perpetually out of stock.

3/5Works, but is annoying
The app puts Joule and thermometer icons in the status area for background info, and then NEVER REMOVES THEM. Even when the cook has ended and the heater is off. Even after shutting down the iPhone and restarting it. Only way together them out is delete the app. When using this app, the Joule will kick the circuit breaker on the power strip while preheating every time. Doesn’t happen with the Joule app, and I don’t know if this app has anything to do with it. However once tripped, the breaker doesn’t trip again after resetting the switch and restarting the cook. Even if the Joule is the only appliance plugged in and I am using the Breville+ app, preheating will trip the breaker. When writing a review in the app, you can’t switch away from the review page without losing your changes, unless you put the app in the background. So, you can’t easily check the app version when providing feedback, nor can you get the versions of your Breville hardware from the app. Definitely beta.
