1. 5/5Really really recommend

   I downloaded this app in hope of reducing my screen time and reliance on scrolling through social media. I have tried other apps or even timers/limits built within the app with no success. I have always found ways to get back into the app and scroll for another couple of hours. But somehow this app has been the winner for me. I set 4, 10 minute sessions of my social media apps which is still plenty of time to disassociate from my day-to-day life but still feel updated and involved in social media. Overtime I have found that sometimes I don’t even use up all of my allotted time on the apps because A. I have become less reliant, B. I become bored on the app more easily and C. I have been in a situation where I cannot wait for the breathing exercise and quote to go through to get into the app. Overall, this app as been a life, social, brain, and time-saver for me. I always recommend it and will continue to as well.

2. 3/5Tracking could be improved

   I found this app on instagram where it was advertising its pushup for screentime feature. I was interested in that so I tried it out and I was disappointed with the result. The app uses a clucky looking kinematic tracker to track your limbs as you pushup. What I was put off was 1.) with my iPad it was really difficult to get the camera to point the right way when I was setting it up. It either made me look upside down or sideways, never right side up. After turning on autolock the problem persisted after some time but eventually was oriented correctly. 2.) You have to be in a certain distance away from your phone to do it. Im tall and have long limbs so I had to get really far away from my phone for the app to properly track my pushups. If I get any closer, my elbows will be out of frame and Ill get no credit for the push up. My apartment isnt the largest so to perform these pushups Id either have to move to certain rooms to do it. Maybe inconvenience will help reduce screentime but if I have to pay for this app to get its full benefits, Im looking for the accountability and physical activity tracking, and there is another app I’ve found that performs that better.

3. 5/5Actually effective at controlling screen time!!

   This is the only app for screen use that has actually worked on me. I like that it disrupts the automatic flow of reaching for the phone, tapping and consuming. The redirection through a centering exercise and then actually choosing how much time you want to spend on the app ahead of time are both incredibly helpful. The inspirational quotes about living your full life are also thought provoking. I enjoyed some of the premium features too. I participated in a challenge where you had to do squats to earn minutes on your blocked app. This app uses your phone’s camera and motion capture to make sure you actually do the squats! This was a great way to ask myself “would using this app right now really make sense/be socially appropriate?” Or “am I willing to embarrass myself to open this app right now?” If you have a couple of real addicting apps on your phone, this one will help you tremendously to fight for the time the others waste for you.

4. 5/5Exceptionally Well Thought Through App

   I have used the Apple Screentime function for years without any change in behaviors because it was just so easy for me to override any limits. There’s no pause to the behavior with the flow. But with ClearSpace it is very methodically designed to procedurally provide a forced slowdown to mindfully choose your next step, and then further establishes a next level time limit even if you choose to use the app in question. I LOVE that if I choose to use one of my locked apps I have pre-determined amounts of use each day and when I use it for the length of time I choose it locks back up again! This feature is gold for accountability and follow-through. After using the free version and now the free trial, I will be going with the subscription. I feel like I am back in control of my phone usage, keeping all of the utilitarian benefits of my phone without the hazards. I was close to chucking it for a dumb phone, but with ClearSpace, I don’t feel like I have to make such an extreme change. Thank you!

5. 5/5Have tried a ton of these apps and I like this one best!

   Unfortunately I’m not able to use the coolest feature of this app — the exercise “challenges” to unlock addictive apps — because I’m paraplegic and all of the exercises require the use of legs. So I can’t speak to how well that feature works. Regardless, I’m going to pay for ClearSpace once the free trial is over. There are small details that make this app more effective (for me, at least) than others like it. For example, ClearSpace you pick how long you want to use the app at a time (from 1-10 minutes) right as you open the app. Then, when time runs out, it says, “the time you set aside for this app is over.” Theoretically I could unlock the app again but I never do…because the app is reminding me that I picked that shorter time (I usually pick 5 minutes, never 10), so I feel compelled to stick to it! I don’t know if that explanation fully makes sense, but trust me, my time spent on social media apps is WAY down since I started using ClearSpace!
