  1. 4/5app content great, format & navigation need work

the shudder app has great content, i love the range of horror movies available and some series too. the shudder originals are fun & if you love all varieties of horror then content gets an A. the navigation of the app is not very user friendly. when compared to other streaming services apps the set up is not intuitive. the navigation menu is at the top. the enter screen is a live tv mid-movie auto play. id prefer to land on my homepage (which is currently hiding being as it's the LAST option). when you search for content (second to last option for some reason) it does not have a smart search and will not find your result until you've typed it entirely. if you want to search movies with NIGHT in the title you can't just search the word NIGHT and see all items that contain the word night you need to search the name exactly. i would also love to be able to search genres like "vampires". they have some prefilled categories but it's not very intuitively created. i think if the app end user interface had an update this would be a great experience overall.

  2. 1/5Don’t trust them with your credit card!!!

It’s really, weirdly, unnecessarily difficult to cancel this service and I still don’t know if I’ve managed it. I have to wait until they get back to me or I get billed again... I wouldn’t have signed up if I’d known how hard it was going to be to cancel. Edit: Actually... I was getting caught up in there not being a visible “cancel membership” button like they said. According to my account page though, “your subscription is ending...” two days *before* I was billed again... almost three weeks ago, which sure makes it look like I did cancel but they billed me anyway. (Which is why there’s no cancel button now?) I will give them credit, after I signed up, I downloaded the app for my firestick so I could watch on my tv instead of just on my computer or iPad and unlike the iOS app, the firestick app was awful, crashed constantly, wouldn’t load, just useless, but they released an update and I never had a problem with it after that. The technical side impressed me, and I love horror movies, I might have come back to this service in a few months when I should have more time, and I definitely would have recommended it... but not being able to cancel/continuing to be billed after “cancelling” is a deal breaker. I was at least able to still watch after being billed, that’s why I’d initially thought I’d made a mistake and hadn’t canceled “the right way.” I just don’t have the time right now for it to be worth it though, and now I *really don’t trust them. :/

  3. 1/5Why?

There are a few good movies but nothing major. This app is a list of old and foreign films with a few Redbox movies thrown in for fun. When you write a review and it’s not stellar, the review doesn’t show up on the reviews. There are a few gems, yet they are b flicks and very few and far between. Most of the time you watch a movie just to be disappointed. The service works well. Unless you can speak 10 languages or want to read for an hour skip it. I paid for a year so I guess I’m in it. I may cancel soon and they can keep the money. Who knows? Better to just rent a few from companies that don’t cut review or skimp on movies. I looked forward to this app. Now I’m just kicking myself for this decision. I’m writing this because I can’t find a single movie to watch after having shutter for a month. One full month and now I have an app that is as useful as a trampoline in outer space. The scary part of shutter is that I signed up for a year. That’s the first scary thing I have experienced with this app. No name movies most of which have been around longer than my 17 year old daughter. Why can this company not listen to horror fans? This app was made for hipsters and loners who don’t know quality. This is sad because the idea is epic but the execution was lack luster to say the least. There are very few movies on the app and very few worth while titles.

  4. 5/5Must have app

I am a huge horror movie fan. I do remember one day in school. I was on my iPad browsing for streaming services that have horror movies. I came up on a movie called the Texas chainsaw massacre, that came out in 1974, I downloaded the app shutter, when I came across it, I tried it out, everything works fine, no bugs, and no glitches whatsoever on my iPad, But I also love the Grindhouse era from the 60s and 70s, I would also love to see a Grindhouse section on shutter, and I would also love to see. I would also love to have the shot on video section, and I would also love to see some shorts here on shutter, But my favorite movie that I’ve been enjoying here on shutter, it is the sadness, it is extreme, but I like it, I would also love to see an extreme underground horror collection here on shutter, you guys do a pretty good job, keep it up and keep going But the one problem, is that there’s no audio descriptions, but I also love to watch shutter TV here on the app and there’s a movie that would also love to see on shutter called the burning moon, so keep adding more movies and keep it up, Shutter, forever,

  5. 5/5The Best Horror/Thriller Streaming Service

Shudder is a amazing streaming service, with a wide selection of horror, thriller, psychological thriller, suspense and similar genres. They have a variety of TV shows, from classics to modern films. The design is nice, although there are some small suggestions/improvements that could be made in terms of layout, design and licensing. For instance, I have trouble finding my progress on a TV show since it doesn’t always save my progress for some reason. As a result, I have to remember the episode/time stamp, which can be difficult and a bit of a hassle. The organization of titles and how to search can also be a pain, due to the lack of search filters and the descending chronological order of titles. At first, it was also difficult to find “my list” due to it basically being hidden without an obvious icon to select. Not to mention, there are great titles to choose, but they unfortunately do not have the licensing for all the sequels/prequels to every film series, or all seasons of a TV series. This is an obvious downside to most streaming services, so I’m not too concerned about this extremely minor issue. Besides these navigation, progress, search filter and licensing issues that are practically 80% minor, the overall selection is great and the membership is very affordable and worth the full value of the service it provides. If they make improvements to these minor issues and/or implement these suggestions, the service and application will have far more potential in satisfying customers and attracting more horror/thriller fanatics. Overall, I’ll give the Shudder streaming service a 4.5/5 rating, which could easily be closer to a 5 star if these small issues are assessed in the hopefully near future. I’ll gladly continue to pay for this service, as long as the quality is relatively retained in its current state.
