2/5A good alternative with a cost.
For starters the app itself works, well enough. It’s a bit slow, clunky, and such. But If you are obsessed with leaving discord for whatever reason then it’s likely your best option. One thing I unfortunately cannot omit from this review is it’s current state, especially compared to Discord. Mind you this app is still in its infancy so it may be unfair to critique it too early but either way it has issues. For starters the UI is noticeably worse, overall being more clunky, certain features you’d expect like nicknames are absent, bugs litter it like on mobile I personally cannot full screen the screen shares of others, and I’m sure there is more jank to be had, overall I would say this add can have potential, but as of current it’s too underdeveloped to really be a completely viable replacement or contender as much as a side grade or temporary fix.

4/5A SORTA IN DEPTH REVIEW
Okay I’ve tested it out here are the ups and downs: (All on mobile) 1. The multiple reply’s is amazing 2. You can choose which role is on top so no need for 15 extra color roles if your a owner or admin 3. It’s ui is very user friendly, even with no guide I got it down instantly 4. It’s just like discord with its in chat ui, but without the shameless nitro button and it has a button to quickly bold italicize and what I believe is spoiling 5. You can literally transfer over your old discord server into a root server using the template link discord gives you! Some noticeable bad things: 1. There is no saving gifs, and gifs appear with the link and the embed 2. There are no sound effects on call, as in, joining leaving muting etc. and no talking bubble (I haven’t used the vc much so idk if it does or doesn’t but through my test it doesn’t) 3. If a big video is sent, it takes a bit for it to load 4. Big one: I tried using an link embedder (you know, how you send large videos without sending the video) and it didn’t work (that be it I was using x266 so I don’t know if others work, but I believe embedded links of all kind should work) Some neutrals: Its upload size is capped but bigger than discord! Idk how big though, this should be clarified

5/5Few tweaks
This app is basically perfect along with the desktop version I just have a couple small tweaks and suggestions before it’s perfect. On mobile when your in a different app while on a root call and a video starts playing it completely cuts out the root call you can’t hear both so it makes multitasking pretty annoying. On desktop like discord it should ask if you want to watch someone else’s stream cause you don’t have a choice currently and you can get blasted by someone’s game or music. Other than these small things root is great so far amazing work will be using this for the foreseeable future even if discord walks back their awful choices

4/5PLEASE ADD VOLUME/SOUND CONTROLS TO STREAMS
I just downloaded the app to try it as an alternative to discord and it seems simple and way less bloated than discord, however one big issue I noticed right away is that there are no voice/volume settings for when I am in a call. A friend was streaming a game and I was on my phone (iPhone) but I could not hear anyone talking while they were streaming the game because the volume was so loud. I couldn’t leave the video or stop viewing it any way, nor could I turn the stream volume down/off. I also noticed I couldn’t edit my microphone settings at all. I know this app is in its infancy, I have high hopes, but PLEASE add some sort of volume settings for iPhone!

5/5upcoming discord competitor
i've decided to leave discord due to the lack of privacy & ai implementations starting march. i haven't really gave the desktop version a try yet, but just from the mobile version here are some constructive criticism because i genuinrly hope this app gets decent traction. add more customization to profiles. there's no bio, no pronouns, all you can really add is just a profile picture & verify your email. i'm not saying anything crazy like profile decorations or silly nitro stuff like discord, but genuinely just a place for a bio so i can have a better understanding of other users on the app. another issue that you will have an issue with is minors. this in inevitable. all you have for verification is just an email, theres not even a place to input an age (not that people won't simply lie anyways) but this marketed as 17+ app & you should hanker down on that- in a noninvasive way that won't breach privacy concerns. i know this is much easier daid then done, but you want to avoid a lawsuit for sure. in terms of actual app features; theres plenty of other more indepth actual reviews for other users deciding to make a switch to this app. i personally find the app easy to navigate & will definitely be continuing to use this, but this review is targeted more towards the actual devs for the app. if theres a patreon or a place where i can support the creators to help with budgeting and help with funds for better features (because thats another hurdle as for everything i've seen this app is 100% free to use, no in-app purchases or premium or anything of the like) please let me know in a response. i'd love to help the root community grow
