  1. 5/5Amazing

This is the best app to use for the smart home! I don’t have to leave the home wondering if I locked the door I can just verify in the app. I can give access to those and control when they can come over. Of course being able to keep enjoying a movie and changed the setting on the AC from my couch. Super easy to use!

  2. 1/5FORCED TO UPDATE, CRASHES ON LAUNCH

It was a somewhat cranky app with some lag but I made it work. The latest update killed the app for me. It forced me to update tonight, Jan 26, 2026, and now the app crashes every time upon launch. I use the app every day so I was afraid this was going to happen, and sure enough. I heard from other users it forces use of single sign-on on their device and won’t allow any functionality or control without it. This is an app for use at folks’s residence. User experience should be a priority. Neither forcing an update nor forcing single sign-on is the way to go, especially not nighttime in the middle of the week, with devices that had already been used up to that point. And people should be given a heads up within the app of a date and time when these things should happen. Now I can’t use my phone for ANYTHING related to this app, because it literally crashes on launch every time.

  3. 1/5Doorbell video bug

It’s been over a week now and I still can’t see who is at my front door. After switching internet providers, the doorbell camera shows “Connection Failed” (which is expected), but the Progress Smart Home app force closes every single time I try to update the Wi-Fi settings to my new 2.4 GHz network. This happens consistently on my iPhone, my daughter’s phone, and my iPad, even with completely fresh installs on the other devices. I’ve contacted Rently support (who confirmed it sounds like an app bug), opened multiple tickets with Progress Residential, and I’m still waiting for escalation to the development team. I pay the monthly Smart Home fee for this service, yet the core video function is completely unusable. Please escalate this to your developers and fix the crashing issue so I can actually use the doorbell camera I’m paying for. Screenshots available upon request.

  4. 3/5Good for some but not for me.

I’m giving this a 3 star review because I understand this may be perfect for someone who wants an out of the box solution for a semi smart home. For others you lose out on allot of features and integrations being forced to use this app. My suggestion to the developer is to allow users the option to use your system or the native app for the smart device. I was hoping that connecting the smart hub to my WiFi network would allow me to do this but after multiple calls and messages to support we can’t seem to troubleshoot this. I’m not even sure if solving this would fix the issue.

  5. 2/5Buggy and not reliable

We’ve lived in our progress home for 2 1/2 years. We’ve had the Smart Home since we moved in and we pay $20 a month extra in rent for it not a choice. For me to have to pay that much money my lock on my front door should not be glitching, saying it’s not locked, jamming constantly, etc. also, the thermostat feature barely works. if I wanna keep it on the auto range the air does not kick on when it’s supposed to. I see myself having to go into the app constantly turn off the thermostat and turn it on again. Even that often doesn’t work. I don’t understand what the disconnect is here but it’s beyond frustrating.
