1. 5/5Left my autistic son and dog to starve

   I have nothing for this banking app but regret. i am a disabled veteran who has been starving along with my son and dog for almost 2 weeks. The app has my disability check from the VA. I sent my disability money from the VA to them and when i tried to wire it to a spending account (Juno where i have an atm card), they locked the account because they said linking Juno was a violation of their policies as it was a “gaming app”. First, the account was never linked. i requested it be linked but it never was and second, how was i supposed to know this? i don’t see gaming on that app anywhere. it’s just a checking account to me. So now, Marcus by Goldman Sachs has my disability and absolutely will not give it to me because my cell phone service is suspended and they can’t call me on it to verify that i am me. they won’t use email. they don’t care that i have identified myself in absolutely every other way possible. they don’t care that the phone is off because i couldn’t pay the bill because they won’t give a disabled veteran his disability. i am very hungry. my son is hungry and so is my dog. Goldman Sachs couldn’t care less about a veteran. i was injured and disabled as a result of my service. who could do this? they actually told me that i would not be able to receive my money. they’re keeping it. Without phone service, i can’t even call anyone for help. To me, it’s unforgivable that they could get away with this. They asked that i fill out an affidavit of identity. i have address. We are so hungry that hours without this money are torture. mailing the affidavit? We don’t have an address. If any of this is important to you, do not download this app. zero stars

2. 5/5Love Marcus, don’t like the update

   I've been using the Marcus app for a while now, and overall, I've been very pleased with it. One of the standout features is the ease with which you can check your accounts. The user interface is intuitive and straightforward, making it simple to navigate through various account details. However, with the latest update, I’ve encountered an issue that has been quite frustrating. The app no longer provides the previous option where it would show the overall account balance from all accounts at a glance. This feature was incredibly convenient for getting a quick snapshot of my total financial status without having to manually sum up individual account balances. While I still appreciate many aspects of the app, the removal of this feature has been a significant drawback for me. I hope the developers consider bringing back the overall account balance view in future updates.

3. 1/5Do not, under any circumstances, open an account with Marcus…

   In March of 2025, I opened an account with Marcus. After no more than a weeks time, my account was locked, and soon after that, my account was closed completely. They say it’s because I was in violation of one of their policies, and that is their right, and I will not waste time arguing the minutia of what they saw versus what actually happened, but I’m not happy with the fact that they never told me which policy was violated or how I violated the policy. I never got a warning that they were going to close or lock the account. I woke up one morning, logged onto the account, only to find the account was frozen. As of now, they still have the money that I deposited to open the account in the first place. I’ve placed numerous calls to them, asking/demanding/complaining for my money to be returned to me and as of this writing, I still don’t have my money back. They keep insisting that my money is “perfectly safe with them”. My opinion is that the money isn’t perfectly safe with them because it’s not perfectly safe with me. To me, this almost seems like theft. They took my money, close the account, and now they’re refusing to give my money back, or at the very least, they’re taking their own sweet time sending the money back. This is mid-May now, so we’re talking about two months or more since the account was closed. That, in my opinion, is a totally unacceptable situation. If this can happen to me, it could happen to you as well. Stay away from Marcus at all costs.

4. 1/5Please Do Not Do Business With Marcus

   My mom put some of her savings into this account for the higher interest rate. A week after her account was approved it was suddenly closed and her login information was revoked so she couldn’t see the money she had put into the account. We didn’t receive any correspondence as to why the account was closed so we called in to customer service. The rep. confirmed that the account was closed and that my mom would have her money transferred back to her original account in 5 business days but they couldn’t tell us why they closed the account in the first place. This call happened on May 7th and now OVER A MONTH LATER my mom still has not received her money back. We called back two weeks after the first call. The second rep. let us know that what the previous rep. said was incorrect and that there was no timeline for when my mom would get her money back. Now, OVER A MONTH LATER, we still have not received any physical account closure letter or email, my mom still has not gotten her money back, and she still can’t at least access her account to see if the money is still even parked there. How can there be no timeline for when my mom can at least expect her money back. THIS IS THIEVERY. We’ve already submitted a complaint to the CFPB and written a letter to our congressperson about these dishonest actions taken by Marcus. I’m not sure what help that’s going to be but we’re desperate for our money back. DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH MARCUS if you don’t want to end up like my mom.

5. 1/5Couldn’t get my money for a house closing!

   I had been a Marcus customer since September 2022 but recently closed my account due to a frustrating experience that left me unable to access my own money when I needed it most. After initiating the transfer for the P&S, I received an alarming call instructing me to contact Marcus. The first agent I spoke with had no idea why I was called, and I was transferred SEVEN times, each time having to re-authenticate with three pieces of information. The agents repeatedly cited ‘quick money rules,’ despite the fact that I had more than five times the necessary amount in my account for over two years, and a significant deposit had been made four months prior. Eventually, one agent was able to assist, but even she couldn’t assure me that I would be able to wire the funds for my closing. Given this uncertainty, I transferred my entire balance to another bank, which could issue a certified check. This process, however, was equally painful—I spoke with 11 different representatives before finally being able to move my money. While I valued the high interest rates and ease of use with Marcus, what’s the point of a high-yield savings account if you can’t access your funds when you need them most? This experience ultimately led me to close my account.
