5/5Frequent app freezes. Useless document photo feature.
Edit: Changed the prior one star review below to 5 stars. The latest app update fixes all of the issues below, at long last. Great job! Original Review: The app frequently freezes completely, requiring a restart and re-login. The main reason to use the app versus the desktop website is for convenient uploading of document photos. Unfortunately this functionality is pretty poor. The app only captures a square subset of the photo, and from the camera filter it’s not the part you’d expect. This means you often have to retry a document photo several times to capture the part you want. The photos are aggravatingly stored at a 90 degree rotation, and you can zoom in on them. This bizarre functionality has been politely reported to the developers with no response. Overall Health Equity is a fine service. Fixing the basic app functionality would make it even better.

2/5Needs an overhaul
Unfortunately my company uses woke-named “HealthEquity”. The app works in a sense, but leaves way too much to be desired. It’s slow, frequently crashes, difficult to navigate, barely performs the essential functions. Want to submit a claim? Well, the app will replace the provider’s name with your own after submission, corrupting up your claim history. Can you correct it in app or online? Absolutely not. Need to attach a receipt? Better take a photo first because the app forces a square aspect ratio. Once your receipt is attached, time to submit for reimbursement. Wait, the app froze on submission and won’t respond despite waiting? Time to force kill. Want to look at claim history? You have to dig through the menus to find it. While you’re digging through those menus, you’re waiting for the app to respond to your screen taps. Now the app is unresponsive. Time to force kill and start over. Oh, the app submitted the claim twice? Well, time to login online and navigate who different screens, using different lexicon for the same concepts, in order to void the claim. I’m not sure how any of these basic features were released in this state. Did you even perform functional analysis? Did you perform heuristic analysis of usability? As a reference, the PayFlex app is very basic, but responsive and functional. Take a look at the competition and learn what makes them successful.

1/5This app is SO bad…
How bad is it? It asks for feedback. Every time I try and give it feedback, it crashes. In the middle of giving responses to a survey just now, it said I would be logged out due to “inactivity”, and took me back to the screen, and lost all my feedback. Back to that - it’s as if the designers don’t speak English, or understand the meaning of basic words. I have $8500 in my account. My company requires $1000be in cash. $7000 is currently invested. If I try and invest the remaining $500, it says I have $7500 “available to invest”, ignoring that $7000 is already invested (I’m rounding here, but in reality the numbers are off, so I have to jump screens myself to figure out how much I have left to properly invest, because the app is too stupid to do that for me or just tell me the available cash). Realized there’s an “auto invest” feature. Go to turn that on. The options are to invest everything over the $1000 my company requires be kept in cash, $4000 to match my deductible, or “custom” to set another amount. I select $1000. It asks me to confirm a “custom” amount. Did it a couple of times before reading the fine print that my “custom” amount is $1000. It has a pie chart with allocations of investments. All of mine are just lumped under the “other” category (even though they comprise half the investment choices available). I wouldn’t use this app if I wasn’t forced to as the only option from my employer. Unnecessarily confusing and poorly designed. Setting it up was equally annoying and problematic, too.

1/5Very bad app
The app looks nice, but the functionality is very bad. Trying to submit a reimbursement request is a nightmare. It makes you add provider billing address, but then doesn’t save the provider info so you have to enter it every time. It fails when I try to upload a PDF, so I try uploading a screenshot of the pdf but then the app often entirely freezes when opening my photo library. You can’t save partial expenses so if it freezes, you have to close the app and restart the expense from scratch. It automatically generates expenses, but I don’t know where it’s getting the expense information from—I assume it’s from my insurance, but it doesn’t give any information other than the date and amount so I don’t know how to get proper documentation to finish submitting those expenses. The app just seems to go out of its way to make the process difficult. My previous HSA provider’s app was much easier to use. Unfortunately, most of the people downloading the app are probably in the same situation as me, where the HSA is selected by their employer so they don’t really have any choice in the matter. To those people I wish the best of luck through their impending miserable experiences with this app.

1/5Going downhill!
Hello, just wanted to drop a note about my experience over the past few months with this app. I used to absolutely love this because I can quickly access all my remaining bills after insurance and pay my doctors from my HRA, HSA etc. but as of late, the app has not been working. I called in for assistance and was told that there is nobody there that actually manages the app and make sure it is updated and working. I find this very odd and concerning. It took until now for my funds for this fiscal year to finally post but I still am not able to actually use those funds from the app to make payments like I have been able to do for the past two years. This is very frustrating! The same guy that told me no one monitors the app suggested I pay at the time of service! No thank you! I want to see the items and what I owe before I pay, it prevents outstanding balances and overpayments. He then said I could pay online with a computer instead of using the app but the funds will still not process, I get an error message every time I submit with a number to call (that I called) with no resolve. Basically be advised, you may not be able to actually use your money. 😔
