  1. 5/5More helpful than I expected!

I expected good information from Function Health, but sometimes good information is just information - clutter even - without the support to actually understand the meaning, and what you can do about it. The descriptions in every category, the clinician summary and ai chat have been very helpful in informing, but also the helping me understand what it means and what I can do about it part. I think it does help to be a passionate health person who’s committed to taking responsibility and doing your part. If I didn’t have passion driving me, and curiosity in asking the ai what certain parts of my results mean/what I can do about it, I think I would have less value here. You have to do your part! And if you’re willing to do that, this is so worth it!

  2. 1/5No support available beyond a bot. Don’t provide clear results to tests.

I bought some additional tests (genetic) as well as their basic panel. 1. They don’t provide a receipt that you can submit to insurance. Mine was rejected because it didn’t have the correct documentation. Impossible to get this fixed because of complaint #3. 2. There is no way to determine what blood test result is for which panel ordered. For months now I have asked for a way to know this and they said come back when we are open. Now they are telling me they are too busy and will email me. When? Who knows. It’s a total scam. They don’t have people working from them. It’s all automated and if the bot can’t answer the question there is no one else available to help. I spent a few thousand dollars on a test and haven’t been able to get clear results for it. 3. Trying to schedule appointments is very difficult if you add any extra tests onto your panel. You have to do a blood test visit for each thing you order on different days. 4. You have to go to the medical request form in the receipts section to find out what date the displayed bloodwork was measured on. The app just shows a level per test number. When you need the blood tests for other things they need the date of the panel. I’m not in the medical field reading the lab documents is very confusing. Don’t use this product! It’s a complete ripoff.

  3. 1/5Scheduling/calendar for women is GARBAGE

The scheduling ability for menstruating women is awful. Some tests have to be scheduled within certain number of days of the beginning of the menstrual cycle but function will block it off, eg. my period starts on the 10th I have to schedule a test on day 2-4 of my cycle but functions scheduling calendar will not allow me to schedule until the 18th. That’s not how math works, 2-4 days after the 10th is the 12th-14th. Other tests have to be scheduled within 19-21 days of the last period but I can’t put that my period started on the 10th if it’s the 11th. To make things worse, you can’t call them you have to go back and forth with their chat agents and you spend hours trying to get tests scheduled. I spent an entire day trying to get scheduled but at a certain point the chat agent stopped responding I’m guessing it was the end of their day. Eventually I just “tricked” the calendar to schedule a test understanding the limitations but I don’t even know if I’m scheduled for the right tests which is concerning considering the cost of all the additional tests. At this point it’s not worth the money and after this year I’ll be going to my primary care doctor for tests. Their scheduling ability is GARBAGE!

  4. 1/5Flawed app scheduling and poor customer service

I am extremely disappointed with the lack of common sense in Function Health’s app and their subsequent customer support. I paid for a membership plus several add-ons. Because the lab couldn't process all my tests in one go, the app prompted me to schedule another draw. However, instead of simply scheduling the missing tests I had already paid for, the app forced me to trigger my "mid-year" testing credit—only two weeks after my initial draw. When I reached out to customer service to explain that I shouldn't have to burn my mid-year test just to complete my initial order, they refused to credit me back. Now, I’m effectively out of the mid-year testing I paid for because of a technicality in their scheduling flow. For a company that prides itself on being "data-driven" and "high-tech," their system is surprisingly rigid and their support is unwilling to fix clear logistical errors. Due to their refusal to resolve this and provide the credits I am entitled to, I will be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I wouldn't recommend this if you expect any kind of fair treatment when their tech glitches.

  5. 1/5I was surprised and disappointed by Function’s renewal and refund practices.

Function seemed like a good service, but I don’t like how they run the membership system, so it leaves me questioning the good intentions of everything else they do. I was especially upset when they automatically renewed my yearly membership for $499 on Sep 22: when I realized what they had done, I asked to cancel on Oct 9 (only 17 days later), but Function kept $169 of that membership fee, stating it was to “help support the systems, resources, and member services”. Seriously? I booked no testing for this renewal year, and I imagine that the renewal itself was automated, but if not, I can’t imagine that the renewal and charging of my card cost Function $169 worth of anyone’s time. What made it worse was that I wasn’t told what the refund would be until after I cancelled. They’re taking advantage of a lack of transparency and it’s going to come back and bite them. I’ll be looking for a better service that’s more straightforwardly fee-for-service, with none of these unreasonable hidden-in-the-fine print fees.
