4/5Arlo ordered Jun2021
I ordered my Arlo wireless cameras in June 2021. I bought the Arlo Pro4 three pack and one Arlo Pro3 Floodlight. I also bought a Uogw three pack solar panels that are compatible with the Arlo cameras. I highly recommend these as they have kept the batteries in my cameras at 97% and above ever since installation. (Make sure you fully charge your batteries before hooking up solar)The one camera that I don’t have a solar panel for needed to be recharged after about a month and a half. Wasn’t hard to recharge, but there’s the inconvenience of having that camera off line for the day. As for this app…I can’t really complain. So far it’s been really good. My only issue with the camera and the app is that there is a lag from the feed. So the images you are seeing…even when watching live….are lagged by a few seconds. So while I’m watching someone walk across my camera, what looks like is happening live on my phone happened about 10-20 seconds ago…which is enough time for the person to be out of the camera sight by the time you know it. Other than the lag, images are clear. I’m able to speak through the camera from my phone. I can turn camera lights on and off. I can view the charge on the camera batteries. I can set zones that I specifically want to capture motion in. I can also view past video taken from the camera. All in all I think it’s a great app. It made set up of the cameras easy and painless. It directs you every step of the way for set up. Arlo has proved to be a great product for me.

5/5Brings peace of mind
We have had a three camera system up for over 6 months. The cameras have worked amazing, even in negative winter temperatures in northern Wisconsin, (way north). The two outside cameras that are exposed to full weather and temperatures have only had problems when we were -30 degrees and lower. They will shutdown if to cold, but come back on when it warms up. The third camera is protected a little more and it doesn’t get any colder than 35 degrees and has had no problems. Strong wifi is needed to support the system. We are currently using Starlink satellite and have no problems with delay or coverage. The video clarity is very good and the stored video library has been helpful on several occasions. We have a $9.99 monthly membership. We recommend buying the official Arlo power cords to plug-in if your cameras will have a lot of activity. Otherwise you will be changing/charging your battery, (XL battery), every three days. The two cameras that have extensive activity for detection we have hooked up to Arlo outdoor power cords. The one camera that has very little activity, the battery goes several months between charges. Other family members also have Arlo cameras and they are very happy too. Random pros are we have been able to monitor weather conditions while away from home, get great video of wildlife and monitor people that may be up to no good, but see our security cameras. We have no cons.

3/5Auto time recording needs improvement
On the Arlo device there are two functionality as a user can use to record motion . I happen to discover that if you select the first option to have the video camera record automatically the emotions that take place in the moment it happens to either catch the entire action or just a snippet of it. There are numerous times where the delivery guy would come by but I would see the delivery truck pull up but never see the delivery guy comes into the front of my house to drop off the package which I thought was very bizarre and I felt a bit uncomfortable. This happened numerous times and so I ended up changing the first option to the second option which you can adjust the recording time to a specific length. But this is becoming more of an annoyance to because every time a motion was captured you know I would have to obviously scroll through the entire segment even though it could be for two seconds long I still would have to watch the entire video just to make sure nothing else was missed. In addition the zone feature does not work at all. I’m confused as to how they even work with the zone functionality but from my take on it I had to set it up yet it didn’t make a difference before I set it up and after you know the recordings were the same nothing change I even changed the option to not detect vehicles when they move across in front of my house and it literally disregarded the configuration change as if it never happend. Overall this app most certainly does need more work

4/5Really, really good but not great… like but don’t love…
App itself is very full featured. In comparison to all the others I’ve tested, Arlo is still at the top. Haven’t tested Nest to be fair tho. Arlo does a lot of smart things in the setups allowing a lot of customization, particularly in setting how one or more cameras behave based on motion on another - that’s really great and also the customization of geo settings and arming specific cameras of choosing based on location, presence. arrival, departure, etc. Also great ability to adjust motion zones, lighting, brightness, duration, etc. My biggest complaint is the time it takes for a camera image to load after receiving an alert. Not the alert image, the actual camera if clicking the alert to open the app. It’s painfully long and seems longer than when just viewing the cameras without an alert. And this is when one has the greatest sense of urgency in wanting/needing to view it! My 2nd biggest complaint is the CVR feature, not awesome or that user friendly compared to all your other features/capabilities… cannot do a quick view “overview” like some competitors offer, or even a 2x or 5x speed view, which would be super helpful! And for the price we’re charged it’s not great, and it’s a per camera fee, at least allow 2-3 cameras for the fee to make up for the lack of CVR features. Still work to do to be the best.

2/5Overthinking camera security
I’ve owned an Arlo camera system for 8 years and I can tell you that their system has some good qualities, but it is profit driven and functionally annoying. The cameras are expensive and not any better than their competitors. The software is the nervous system and it can be glitchy at times. Right now the video displays at the same ratios when in portrait and landscape causing landscape to be too small for detail on a phone. If you try to scroll through your camera list because some UI designer thought it would be better to use the entire video viewer to be a touch event every touch turns on the camera feed inadvertently. Now you have to navigate back to the Home Screen and start all over to get to the camera you wanted. Each year(except when they were a couple years old) the subscription service has gone up like a cable company. Its starting price is as much as a Netflix subscription. I guess you can’t put a price on security, huh Arlo? But they do, so be ready to shell out a few hundred dollars a year to access your video if it’s more than a week. Why can’t the owner just use a hard drive? Because they would loose their shirts. Would you like to speak to someone live while using the camera? Me too, but there’s a 10-second delay and most people leave before you can get a word out. Completely useless! I would advise anyone looking to invest in a camera security system to do themselves a favor and just research their competitors and see who is best for them.
