4/5(RESOLVED) App won’t open on my new iPhone
Downloaded Apr 27, 2018. When I tried to open it on my iPhone X it immediately closes. I read another review saying to open it 3-4 times in a row. After that it opened and now it works. This needs to be fixed. Also no way to contact the developer except through this review. That’s why it gets 4 stars. Now that it is working, it has lots of good information I will be using on my Camino in May.

3/5Promising but broken.
A few points to start. I used it. It worked to get me through the Camino. I’m comparing it to the unfortunately defunct Camino Ninja app. The most annoying bug is that it won’t zoom to your current position without crashing. At least on my phone. If this had behaved better, I wouldn’t have been quite as annoyed with the app, especially after paying for it. I was constantly having to select my route and scroll for a ridiculous amount of time to find my position. There’s some inconsistency in links within the app. Sometimes clicking the elevation profile brings up the profile for the wrong route. Selecting a town on the map doesn’t seem to display a list of accommodations there, while selecting it from the list-view of the route does. There really should be a better way to visualize stages. Being able to select a desired end point using current position (or closest official point to current position) and visualize elevation, distance, and services only along that stretch would be better. Again, it worked. I guess I got my money’s worth. Still a bit disappointing though.

5/5Great for Portuguese Coastal and Litoral
Absolutely loved this app for navigation on the Portuguese coastal/Litoral Camino. Was spot on for navigating 99%. Not that this would be a difficult route to navigate by simply following the arrows and signs most of the way, but there were several times, especially in larger towns and cities that the app was very useful for not getting lost. Loved that it combined the coastal and Litoral routes. Also very good for the Spiritual Variant, which I highly recommend. Only used this for Navigation, and there are other resources for other info.

5/5Very Useful!
The app paid for itself as soon as I opened it. The Lisbon guide mentioned the Festival of St. Anthony on June 13th. I was going to start walking on the 12th. Obviously, I changed those plans. I like the map, the links to accommodations, and the recommendations from other users. The app was just updated a few days ago. I’ve used three other Wise Pilgrim routes and they’ve been great.

5/5Used this app for multiple various Caminos
I always use Wise Pilgrim apps for our Caminos. We have done the Portuguese route various times, Variante Espiritual, the French route (from St. Jean and Ponferrada), and most of the Winter route. Every one we make sure to use these apps. So helpful for navigation, distance, elevation, lodgings, and a little bit of history. Makes the Camino with a family doable.

5.10.2
Big update for the start of Summer. As more and more albergues are adopting rest days of their own, I have improved the notice that appears. It will now warn you if the albergue is closed today or tomorrow. Fixes which caused the Variante Espiritual to appear in the Central and Coastal routes for some users.

6.1.0
This is the biggest update in the history of the app, a complete rebuild from the ground up. New Dashboard The app now opens to a new dashboard layout designed to get you to the information you need, faster. Yellow X Returns Long-time users might remember Yellow X, a geolocation toolkit I built about a decade ago. I've brought back its best features and rolled them into All Caminos. Now you can see exactly how far you are from the next town or the nearest albergue. Dynamic Elevation Profile Completely reimagined—tap anywhere to see distances to points along your route. See where you are on the profile in real time. Improved Maps More interactive, more informative, more helpful when you're standing at a fork in the path. More Routes I have added to the Portugués app the Coastal and Central routes from Porto. Smarter Updates Over-the-air updates now only download what's changed. No more full app downloads just because I fixed a typo. Offline Map Tiles Much improved, and available for all three routes. Every screen, every feature, every detail has been rethought and reworked. ¡Buen Camino!

New: Notes. Leave yourself a note on any town, albergue, or stop on the route, or drop a pin on the map — water, viewpoints, photo spots, places you want to return to. They gather on one page in order along the Camino, ready to search and export, and stay private on your phone. And if you spot a price change or a closure, you can now report it to me right from the listing. Buen Camino. — Michael

This release brings the map to life. Tap the new Layers button for points of interest — churches, monuments and castles from Wikipedia, plus drinking fountains, viewpoints, ruins, picnic areas and pharmacies along your route, each with its own info card. I've redrawn every map pin for a cleaner look, pilgrim comments now appear in your language wherever I have a translation, and the map no longer snaps back to your location while you look ahead. Buen Camino.

A new Wildfire Map. Tap the Layers button and switch on Wildfires to see active fires across Spain and Portugal — updated daily from the EU's Copernicus fire service — plus this season's burnt areas along your route. I've also refreshed the route tracks with cleaner elevation profiles and a few corrections, updated a number of albergues with the latest information I have, and fixed a few bugs along the way. Buen Camino.

A big update this time around. New on the map: a 6th style — 3D — to help you get your bearings in the bigger cities. And every map style now responds to a two-finger tilt, so you can lean the map back and look off into the distance to see what's ahead. If you plan with the itinerary, there's a lot here for you: - Dates are now supported, including multi-night stays in the same town. - The stage banners at the start and end of each day tell you far more now. - Notes you add in the online planner come along for the ride — they import straight into the app. - City pages now show what you've booked, whether it's confirmed, and how you booked it. - The map can walk you through your itinerary one stage at a time. And the route page handles those long lists better — it trims itself at your starting point, with an easy tap to bring the earlier places back whenever you want them.

Some of you opened the offline map and found... an empty world. The markers had wandered off on certain devices. I rounded them up, gave them a stern talking-to, and pinned them back where they belong. Your offline map is properly populated again. Plus a fix for pilgrims counting in miles — distances now read right across all screens.

Heads-up for early June: several Xunta (regional) albergues close for a single day each between 1–12 June for maintenance. The app now flags every affected albergue with the exact date, so you can plan around it. Offline maps refreshed — if you use them, open Settings and re-download to get the latest. Buen Camino!
