4/5(RESOLVED) App won’t open on my new iPhone
Downloaded Apr 27, 2018. When I tried to open it on my iPhone X it immediately closes. I read another review saying to open it 3-4 times in a row. After that it opened and now it works. This needs to be fixed. Also no way to contact the developer except through this review. That’s why it gets 4 stars. Now that it is working, it has lots of good information I will be using on my Camino in May.

3/5Promising but broken.
A few points to start. I used it. It worked to get me through the Camino. I’m comparing it to the unfortunately defunct Camino Ninja app. The most annoying bug is that it won’t zoom to your current position without crashing. At least on my phone. If this had behaved better, I wouldn’t have been quite as annoyed with the app, especially after paying for it. I was constantly having to select my route and scroll for a ridiculous amount of time to find my position. There’s some inconsistency in links within the app. Sometimes clicking the elevation profile brings up the profile for the wrong route. Selecting a town on the map doesn’t seem to display a list of accommodations there, while selecting it from the list-view of the route does. There really should be a better way to visualize stages. Being able to select a desired end point using current position (or closest official point to current position) and visualize elevation, distance, and services only along that stretch would be better. Again, it worked. I guess I got my money’s worth. Still a bit disappointing though.

5/5Great for Portuguese Coastal and Litoral
Absolutely loved this app for navigation on the Portuguese coastal/Litoral Camino. Was spot on for navigating 99%. Not that this would be a difficult route to navigate by simply following the arrows and signs most of the way, but there were several times, especially in larger towns and cities that the app was very useful for not getting lost. Loved that it combined the coastal and Litoral routes. Also very good for the Spiritual Variant, which I highly recommend. Only used this for Navigation, and there are other resources for other info.

5/5Very Useful!
The app paid for itself as soon as I opened it. The Lisbon guide mentioned the Festival of St. Anthony on June 13th. I was going to start walking on the 12th. Obviously, I changed those plans. I like the map, the links to accommodations, and the recommendations from other users. The app was just updated a few days ago. I’ve used three other Wise Pilgrim routes and they’ve been great.

5/5Used this app for multiple various Caminos
I always use Wise Pilgrim apps for our Caminos. We have done the Portuguese route various times, Variante Espiritual, the French route (from St. Jean and Ponferrada), and most of the Winter route. Every one we make sure to use these apps. So helpful for navigation, distance, elevation, lodgings, and a little bit of history. Makes the Camino with a family doable.

5.10.2
Big update for the start of Summer. As more and more albergues are adopting rest days of their own, I have improved the notice that appears. It will now warn you if the albergue is closed today or tomorrow. Fixes which caused the Variante Espiritual to appear in the Central and Coastal routes for some users.

6.1.0
This is the biggest update in the history of the app, a complete rebuild from the ground up. New Dashboard The app now opens to a new dashboard layout designed to get you to the information you need, faster. Yellow X Returns Long-time users might remember Yellow X, a geolocation toolkit I built about a decade ago. I've brought back its best features and rolled them into All Caminos. Now you can see exactly how far you are from the next town or the nearest albergue. Dynamic Elevation Profile Completely reimagined—tap anywhere to see distances to points along your route. See where you are on the profile in real time. Improved Maps More interactive, more informative, more helpful when you're standing at a fork in the path. More Routes I have added to the Portugués app the Coastal and Central routes from Porto. Smarter Updates Over-the-air updates now only download what's changed. No more full app downloads just because I fixed a typo. Offline Map Tiles Much improved, and available for all three routes. Every screen, every feature, every detail has been rethought and reworked. ¡Buen Camino!

New: Notes. Leave yourself a note on any town, albergue, or stop on the route, or drop a pin on the map — water, viewpoints, photo spots, places you want to return to. They gather on one page in order along the Camino, ready to search and export, and stay private on your phone. And if you spot a price change or a closure, you can now report it to me right from the listing. Buen Camino. — Michael

This release brings the map to life. Tap the new Layers button for points of interest — churches, monuments and castles from Wikipedia, plus drinking fountains, viewpoints, ruins, picnic areas and pharmacies along your route, each with its own info card. I've redrawn every map pin for a cleaner look, pilgrim comments now appear in your language wherever I have a translation, and the map no longer snaps back to your location while you look ahead. Buen Camino.

A new Wildfire Map. Tap the Layers button and switch on Wildfires to see active fires across Spain and Portugal — updated daily from the EU's Copernicus fire service — plus this season's burnt areas along your route. I've also refreshed the route tracks with cleaner elevation profiles and a few corrections, updated a number of albergues with the latest information I have, and fixed a few bugs along the way. Buen Camino.

A big update this time around. New on the map: a 6th style — 3D — to help you get your bearings in the bigger cities. And every map style now responds to a two-finger tilt, so you can lean the map back and look off into the distance to see what's ahead. If you plan with the itinerary, there's a lot here for you: - Dates are now supported, including multi-night stays in the same town. - The stage banners at the start and end of each day tell you far more now. - Notes you add in the online planner come along for the ride — they import straight into the app. - City pages now show what you've booked, whether it's confirmed, and how you booked it. - The map can walk you through your itinerary one stage at a time. And the route page handles those long lists better — it trims itself at your starting point, with an easy tap to bring the earlier places back whenever you want them.

Some of you opened the offline map and found... an empty world. The markers had wandered off on certain devices. I rounded them up, gave them a stern talking-to, and pinned them back where they belong. Your offline map is properly populated again. Plus a fix for pilgrims counting in miles — distances now read right across all screens.

Heads-up for early June: several Xunta (regional) albergues close for a single day each between 1–12 June for maintenance. You can now share your Camino with other pilgrims — send your itinerary and notes by QR code or file, and import theirs just as easily. You can also back up your plan and notes to a file, so they're safe if you change phones. Thanks for walking with Wise Pilgrim. Buen Camino!

6.3.1
Fly your Camino before you walk it. The new Flyover screen gives you a cinematic 3D preview of every stage in your itinerary, and Explore mode lets you roam the whole route in 3D. The dashboard is now yours to arrange — press and hold any card to move it. Also includes the latest albergue updates from the trail.
-
6.5.0
This update is about finding things faster. Search has arrived. Tap the magnifying glass on the guide or the map and jump straight to any town or albergue on the route. Measure distances with your finger. Press and hold any stop on the list, then drag up or down. The distance to wherever your finger lands appears as you go, following the route you have selected. If your itinerary has dates, the map now opens on today's stage. Tapping the stage name brings the view back to that day's walk whenever you wander off exploring. Elevation figures are now properly smoothed. Climbs read like the guidebooks instead of overshooting, and stage difficulty and walking times are truer for it. The scissor filter learned a new trick. Alongside trimming the list from your location, it can now trim to today's stage when your itinerary has dates: tap it to cycle between the two. And it no longer hides the town you are sleeping in. Also fixed: itineraries imported from the website now carry your chosen accommodation for each stop, the favorites filter shows your places right away, and a long press no longer opens a place by accident. The Matosinhos bridge has reopened, so the detour advisory is gone. Buen Camino.

6.5.1
This update is about seeing your plan on the map. The bed you have chosen now shows where it belongs. Your booked accommodation appears on the map with a colored dot: green when it is confirmed, amber when you have asked, red when you have picked it but not booked yet. Favorites you have saved sit alongside it in gray. Once you have chosen where to sleep in a town, the other options there fade back, and so does every town you are not stopping in. What stands out is your own walk. Every accommodation now tells you where it actually is: how far from the Camino, which side of the trail it sits on and in which direction, and how far from the center of town, before or after it as you walk. Also fixed: importing an itinerary from the website no longer clears the accommodation you had chosen on your other routes. Buen Camino.
-
6.6.0
Print your Camino. Your itinerary now exports as a PDF — a page for each day, with the stage, its elevation profile, every town you walk through, and the bed you have booked with its status. Choose what comes with you: descriptions, notices, notes about the Camino itself, history. Leave them off and you get a clean sheet; turn them on and you carry the whole guide. The summary page holds a QR that loads your entire plan onto another pilgrim's phone, and every booked bed carries one that opens it in Maps — so a printed page can still find your albergue in the dark. Also: Settings now keeps the guide's accommodation data separate from the app itself. The data updates in the app; the app updates in the App Store. Pilgrims were confusing the two and missing real updates. Buen Camino.
-
6.7.0
Share the day you walked. Pick a photo from today and the app makes a card out of it: the two towns, the distance, and the day's climb drawn underneath with a walker standing exactly where the photo was taken. Your photos remember where they were shot, so each one lands at its own point along the stage. Up to ten at a time, in story or square, for Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, or just your own camera roll. No plan, or a Camino you walked years ago? Choose the photos and we work the day out from them. Or share a single spot — a view, a bar, the fountain you sat at — and the card names the nearest town and the distance still ahead of you. Travelling on: walk into a town in the morning and leave the same afternoon by train or bus. Set it on that stop and the night stops counting, your dates stay right, and the day numbers keep counting only the days you actually walk. Also: import another pilgrim's plan from a screenshot of their QR code, not only by scanning it, and a tidier home screen. Buen Camino.

6.7.1
Thousands of new photographs of the places you will sleep, right across the routes. Buen Camino.
-
6.7.2
Bringing a plan over from wisepilgrim.com now lands exactly the way you drew it — forks and all. If you chose the path less taken, the app keeps it that way. Travelling on by train or bus? You can now sleep first and catch the morning one, instead of leaving the same day. Not sure where to begin? Every route now comes with sample itineraries — gentle, standard, strong — worked examples to start from and drag about until they're yours. Plus a little housekeeping in the accommodation directory, with a few new beds. Buen Camino!
-
6.7.3
Post offices, with the hours that matter. Correos' full register is now in the app, so you can see when the counter in a small village is open (sometimes only twenty minutes a day). A fresh data pass across every route: places, beds and services brought up to date. And for those who plan ahead, a small new companion is tucked into the planner. Buen Camino!

Two new routes: Porto to Braga, and the Interior from Viseu to Verín. Today's walk is now a tap away on the Yellow X page: how far you've come, how far to tonight's stop, and the Yellow X follows your itinerary. New on the Dashboard: the Pilgrim Roads wall map, and luggage storage and shipping in Santiago. The pronunciation guide now tells you when new places are ready. And fresh data on every route. Buen Camino!
