  1. 5/5exactly what I needed!

I walked part of the Camino in June 2018 and found this app incredibly helpful overall! Unlike many other pilgrims, I did not have to stop and unpack a bulky guidebook every time I wanted to check distances or find the closest bar. All I had to do was pull out my phone and voila! Overall, I found the descriptions of albergues/towns and the route of the camino itself very accurate. Some of the prices of the albergues were slightly different but otherwise everything was great and I did not have any surprises. I also found the elevation profile very helpful for quickly visualizing distance between pueblos and the amenities offered. The online map was also very useful. For some reason, my phone tracks my GPS location accurately even on airplane mode without wifi so I was always able to know exactly where I was on the map. The map itself was very accurate. The only small annoying thing was that every time you open it, it resets to the standard starting place. Overall, I would recommend this app to anyone looking to get accurate maps and information about albergues and pueblos along the way. I found it to be a very good, and often more up-to-date alternative to carrying around a heavy guidebook. 10/10 :)

  2. 5/5A must for the Camino Frances

This app was the best $5 I’ve ever spent. It has a useful list of albergues and hotels for every city, pueblo and village on the Camino - with reviews to help you decide. Be sure to use the WhatsApp helper feature - you tell it how many people and what date, and it creates a WhatsApp message in Spanish to request a reservation. I use this feature frequently. But the best feature is the map. It shows your location overlayed on a map of the trail. Not sure if you’re on track? Check the app. It will either reassure you or help you correct your course. I have consulted it frequently on the trail and have never gotten lost. Don’t listen to the old, negative reviews. The app is stable, doesn’t crash, and helps you navigate better than any guidebook.

  3. 5/5Super-useful walking aid

Most useful for me were the offline map and the user albergue reviews. The first helped me numerous times to keep my bearings even when I couldn’t count on a cellular connection. The camino is well-marked but even so there are plenty of points when I got a little turned around, and this offline map helped me get back on track. The second was invaluable for choosing where to stay at night. I didn’t always choose only based on this guide but I often benefited from warnings of a bedbug issue or else just glowing comments about a given albergue. It lef me to many wonderful places and people. A third praiseworthy thing that occurs to me is the local historical and cultural info given on many towns. It gave me things to look out for or ways to appreciate where I was and what I was seeing. This context offered good reminders since it was often easy to forget about everything except the matter of walking, eating, and sleeping (of course that was good in its own way). I did use a print guide also and google from time to time so I cannot say what a Camino would be like using only this app guide. Regardless, I am very glad I had it (I still look at it from time to time to remember the experience).

  4. 5/5Indispensable

I have used the Wise Pilgrim apps on all of my Caminos including the Camino Frances (2023), Camino Portuguese and Finisterre (2024) and Camino Frances (2026). This app is indispensable. The maps are excellent, easy to follow, and they show more options than other apps. Many informative village descriptions help me understand why places are important and what to look for. I especially rely on the accommodation comments by other users which help me decide where I want to stay. And a recent upgrade added a stage planning feature, notes, and many user interface improvements. I would not walk a Camino without a Wise Pilgrim app. Highly recommended.

  5. 5/5Easy to use, helped me get back on track

Used this app for 500 miles. I used it daily. I was able to see when I deviated from the path a few times and the reviews for paths, lodging and cafes was very helpful. I could link to wahstsapp numbers for lodging to call ahead for a bed. Developer is very responsive to feedback. I’ll use the portugal version for my next camino.

  • 6.3.0 · 3 Jul 2026

You can now share your Camino with other pilgrims — send your itinerary and notes by QR code or file, and import theirs just as easily. You can also back up your plan and notes to a file, so they're safe if you change phones. Thanks for walking with Wise Pilgrim. Buen Camino!

Some of you opened the offline map and found... an empty world. The markers had wandered off on certain devices. I rounded them up, gave them a stern talking-to, and pinned them back where they belong. Your offline map is properly populated again. Plus a fix for pilgrims counting in miles — distances now read right across all screens.

Fixed map arrow direction on iOS. Restored language picker in Settings. Distance numbers now use your locale's decimal separator.

Now with SES Peregrino integration for accommodation guest registration. This is the biggest update in the history of the app, a complete rebuild from the ground up. New Dashboard The app now opens to a new dashboard layout designed to get you to the information you need, faster. Yellow X Returns Long-time users might remember Yellow X, a geolocation toolkit I built about a decade ago. I've brought back its best features and rolled them into All Caminos. Now you can see exactly how far you are from the next town or the nearest albergue. Dynamic Elevation Profile Completely reimagined—tap anywhere to see distances to points along your route. See where you are on the profile in real time. Improved Maps More interactive, more informative, more helpful when you're standing at a fork in the path. More Routes I have added to the Francés app the alternate beginning on the Aragonés and the alternate ending on the Invierno. Smarter Updates Over-the-air updates now only download what's changed. No more full app downloads just because I fixed a typo. Offline Map Tiles Much improved, and available for all three routes. Every screen, every feature, every detail has been rethought and reworked. ¡Buen Camino!

  • 6.0.5

Bug fixes for last weeks update which included: Massive Update. Now with a built in itinerary builder, with support for importing from wisepilgrim.com. Better calculations for alternate routes. km to miles option. And of course all of the most up-to-date content.

  • 6.2.15

A big update this time around. New on the map: a 6th style — 3D — to help you get your bearings in the bigger cities. And every map style now responds to a two-finger tilt, so you can lean the map back and look off into the distance to see what's ahead. If you plan with the itinerary, there's a lot here for you: - Dates are now supported, including multi-night stays in the same town. - The stage banners at the start and end of each day tell you far more now. - Notes you add in the online planner come along for the ride — they import straight into the app. - City pages now show what you've booked, whether it's confirmed, and how you booked it. - The map can walk you through your itinerary one stage at a time. And the route page handles those long lists better — it trims itself at your starting point, with an easy tap to bring the earlier places back whenever you want them.

New — weather forecasts for every town and your itinerary stages. A new Wildfire Map. Tap the Layers button and switch on Wildfires to see active fires across Spain and Portugal — updated daily from the EU's Copernicus fire service — plus this season's burnt areas along your route. I've also refreshed the route tracks with cleaner elevation profiles and a few corrections, updated a number of albergues with the latest information I have, and fixed a few bugs along the way. Buen Camino.

This release brings the map to life. Tap the new Layers button for points of interest — churches, monuments and castles from Wikipedia, plus drinking fountains, viewpoints, ruins, picnic areas and pharmacies along your route, each with its own info card. I've redrawn every map pin for a cleaner look, pilgrim comments now appear in your language wherever I have a translation, and the map no longer snaps back to your location while you look ahead. Buen Camino.

  • 6.2.11

New: Notes. Leave yourself a note on any town, albergue, or stop on the route, or drop a pin on the map — water, viewpoints, photo spots, places you want to return to. They gather on one page in order along the Camino, ready to search and export, and stay private on your phone. And if you spot a price change or a closure, you can now report it to me right from the listing. Buen Camino. — Michael

New: Inner Camino House — a small donativo rest stop in Viloria de Rioja, now featured along the Camino Francés. Stop in for a coffee, a rest, and a moment of calm. Albergue prices and details refreshed throughout. Buen Camino!

  • 6.2.9

Heads-up for early June: several Xunta (regional) albergues close for a single day each between 1–12 June for maintenance. The app now flags every affected albergue with the exact date, so you can plan around it. Offline maps refreshed — if you use them, open Settings and re-download to get the latest. Buen Camino!
