1. 4/5I like lastest version of e-Newspaper

   I like how the lastest version reads clearer. I don’t do crossword or other puzzles, so can’t give opinion of that feature. Content still disappoints me with no Op-ed or letters to the Editor. I dislike needing to enter email and password every few days- gives less time to read won days when I’m busy.

2. 1/5Want the old app back

   The old app was great. Easy to use, you could print the Sudoku, you could easily go back and look at past editions, it was easy to navigate to where you wanted to go, you didn’t have to deal with pop-up ads every time you click on a story, you could listen to an article (in a very robotic voice) when reading is difficult. That all changed with this new app! You can’t print the sudoku, it jumps around making it hard to find and read an article you want to read. It forces you to deal with pop-up ads. You can’t go back and look at past editions. in short, it makes reading the newspaper so frustrating and time-consuming it’s not worth it. We’ve had a subscription to the Register Guard for decades, I’m on the verge of canceling it.

3. 1/5One of the worst, why isn’t it better?

   This media outlet has major issues from reporting to editing (the typos, omg) to delivery, this app is no different. Photos are rendered too large to view, the app jumps all the way to the bottom of a story when you try to scroll past the giant photo to the next line of text, forcing you to scroll back up and effectively read the story backward, and topping it all off, the app shuts down regularly while in use. It’s borderline fraudulent to charge $20/mo. for a “lite” print version full of useless ads and outdated stories which refers to this junky app to access breaking news and updates. The only reason we haven’t canceled is due to our community support pledge during the pandemic. It’s a shame the owner/publisher doesn’t leverage their digital resources to deliver a better quality news experience.

4. 3/5The software is very good, the content is pretty good.

   I feel it’s important to support local news, so we have a subscription, the paper itself though is not so great. There are misspellings, repeat sentences and occasionally repeat paragraphs. The news is often old and sometimes you even talk about upcoming events that have already happened. Letters to the editor are important, but missing. The sports section is probably good, but not everyone cares about sports. The comics are great!

5. 3/5Combine the Salem Statesman & Eugene RG

   The two struggling Gannett publications should be combined into one publication. It is my understanding the Salem office now oversees the couple Eugene reporter’s. Salem has a slightly more reporters than Eugene. I’ve subscribed to both for the last year. Having both, I knew most of the news in the Willamette valley. Many news stories were in both publications and just a few that were local to the each publication. I’d recommend combining both publications into one, The Willamette Valley News. I think, if they combined two together, they wouldn’t loose subscribers and they would have a paper that would potentially draw Oregonian subscribers. I’ve dropped the Salem Statesman because it seems redundant to subscribe to two papers that have the a lot of same news articles.
