1. 2/5Good content, horrible app

   The Guide Michelin is an incredible resource that makes eating out in new cities and towns a delightful experience, sadly the app really fails to live up to expectations. Search is incredibly slow, the UX is clunky and this could be designed in a much more modern and helpful way. Also lacking are pictures of the venues, which is a shame as the ambiance of a restaurant can really add to the experience. They should really take a look at modernizing their approach so their reviews and rating systems can really shine again.

2. 3/5Improvement

   The Michelin app could use some more consumer friendly features. Nothing sticks. You can be researching a location for Michelin Starred restaurants in Rome and suddenly you are taken to local restaurants in New York. Leave the site for a minute and you’re taking elsewhere. Also, the app seems to be focused on restaurants all over the world which is good but I’m not interested in the new Michelin star restaurant in Dubai or Hong Kong. If I’m traveling to those countries, then I will search for the restaurants in that country. Maybe there should be a section for the newest additions but don’t push it towards someone who is searching for restaurants in other locations.

   This app is an excellent way to find some of the best restaurants and restaurant experiences out there. I love food pictures and being able to see what some of the offerings are at each place, as well as getting a sense for the ambience. If there is a reasonable way to get more pictures of each location that would be the cherry on top of an already great app.

4. 5/5Curation!

   Admittedly, the content is sparse, which makes it kind of hard to justify this as an app rather than just accessing it on the web. But I really like the idea of a genuinely curated experience. Every other booking site will add everything as if it’s the best restaurant or hotel imaginable, but most are, by definition, around average. This app cuts away all of that so you can focus on what’s good. Now, I think they still need a bit more, and maybe what they could do is have “value picks” and other qualifiers (Bib is good though it doesn’t do quite the same thing) to allow them to have more options but still retain the credibility for the things they list as 1+ stars. It’s a tough, thankless job to be the one company being honest and rigorous with their reviews in a world where volume reigns supreme in business models, so I feel for them.

5. 2/5Great content, clumsy mapping

   I love the Michelin reviews, but the apps map feature is a bear to use. Every time i rotate the map, zoom, even slightly, or slide it, even just slightly to recenter, it freezes and goes into a buffering mode. Further sometimes the pinned restaurants, including the one you might be trying to locate just disappear and it can take zooming in or out multiple times for the pin to reappear, keeping in mind it will buffer for a few seconds for each zoom shift. This is infuriating, especially if you are walking, biking or driving as you basically have pull aside and try not to be a nuisance waiting for the map to come back to life. Since the food reviews are mostly on the www already, the only real advantage of downloading the app and creating an account is the mapping. Therefore I’m going to choose 2 stars for now. Hopefully the app improves as it has the potential to efficiently bring people to outstanding food.
