  1. 5/5The Social Media Experience I Needed

The Spill app has truly changed my perspective on what social media can and should be. I’ve been using the app since its availability in the App Store and I have not been disappointed. Years prior, I significantly reduced my social media presence because social media simply didn’t feel fun, safe, or genuine. Spill has shown me that you really CAN have a social media platform that promotes genuine connections and creates a safe space for its users. The sense of community on this app is mind blowing. I also love the latest user interface. It’s intuitive and fun to use. The Spill team is amazing as well. They constantly engage the Spill community on how they can better serve the community and make the space something users genuinely enjoy. Through its Tea Party feature, I have had some amazing connections, laughed so much, and have learned some things too! The Tea Party feature is user-driven, so you get to hear and engage other users on topics from anywhere to music, mental health, LGBTQIA awareness, to discussions on anime. Community users also get together and watch movies together while commenting via Tea Parties. The Tea Parties often have DJs spinning live sets too and folks comment on the song in near-realtime. It’s just a good time and Spill puts the social back in social media.

  2. 5/5Okay but no, FURREAL—

Spill is a WONDERFUL app! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve been on social media for a long time—DECADES at this point—and I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I’ve felt this invested in logging on to see what other folks are up to. I was an early adopter of sites like MySpace and LiveJournal back in the 2000’s, so to say I’d gotten disenchanted with the influence of algorithms, content creation, and AI on the original benefits those media offered would be a GROSS understatement. In the four months I’ve been on Spill I’ve gotten back to meeting REAL people, and making REAL connections about REAL topics and experiences. I’ve started sharing myself again online—this time with fellow “sippers” who I can see aren’t here for image consumption or platform creation, and just want to get to know people and experience life like I do! Is the community perfect? ABSOLUTELY not. What it IS though is a fully human space for the complexities of how we all show up—not just trying to get perform for likes or clout or any other bull that doesn’t feed us when we put our phones down. I’ll take that over polished, performative nonsense ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Phonz, Kenya and team have truly put the SOCIAL back in social media, because it’s clear they believe one important thing: profit CANNOT matter more than people. This app is still in its newer phases of life, of course, but if they keep this same energy moving forward they will have a fan in me FOR LIFE. Thank y’all so much—and if you feel like being real, come join us! 😁😁😁

  3. 4/5Beta pretty good

Shoutout to spill! It's a bit rough around the edges but I'm sure the developers are working on it. Very simple and pretty easy to use. And it's fun! Only a few usability and aesthetic grievances tho. 1.) the home feed isn't that aesthetically pleasing. With the spill board, the feed, the notifications, search, post, and profile features all on one screen makes it feel really cluttered. The most apps have a task bar with icons that take you to different screens for those functions which are preferable but I'm just one person. 2.)The pull down feature for the spill board gets interfered with my iPhone Notification Center a lot. I love the spill board the method of getting to it is annoying sometimes tho. 3.) the engagement icons are a bit small and bunch up together. I struggle a bit trying to tap between liking and quoting a spill. 4.) I would like to customize my profile a bit more. The blue used for you profile is a bit straining on the eyes. Plus it'd be fun to change the layout every now again. Decorating my profile with different colors or banners would also be really fun. 5.) The block feature doesn't function. There's a hashtag going around for Nsfw content which is fine but I would prefer if I get to choose to view and engage with such content. Despite blocking creators who post that kind of content they still pop up on my feed. It would be even better to mute or block certain hashtags all together. Other than that I'm having a blast and I can't wait to see how it grows.

  4. 5/5This app is the future

I’m not sure when I joined this app but I’d say a few months ago. It has already become my favorite social media app. It’s a social media app that gets it. The creators of the app have in my opinion have been so transparent about the process to create an environment that is accepting of all people no matter race, gender, sex, or orientation. This app really feels like community. And if there are squabbles they are handled fairly. I wish I could gatekeep it but it must be brought to the whole world for an example of how social media should be. It’s so much fun that I want to quit work and spill all day. The impact it has made on some many people is so unique. I don’t know if many people would call social media a positive place but my experiences on spill have been very positive. It’s been so positive that I believe so strongly that spill is the future of social media.

  5. 5/5Best Social Media Platform To Date

Spill is THAT space! As a creative, beauty professional, and Black woman navigating multiple lanes, Spill has been one of the very few apps where I actually feel seen. I don't have to water myself down or fight algorithms to be heard. I simply show up, share my thoughts and work, and genuine connections form naturally. Whether discussing anime, entrepreneurship struggles, or my blog's behind-the-scenes, someone on Spill always gets it. The culture is unmatched, unique, smart, funny, and creatively inspiring. I've made more meaningful connections in this space in two years than on other platforms in a decade. What's even better is that these connections extend beyond the screen into real life through local meetups organized by users of the app. While I hesitate to compare it to other apps, the interface is like what Tumblr and Instagram wish they could be, and it's still in beta! What truly sets Spill apart is that the CEO, developers, and team actively engage with users both online and in person, constantly seeking feedback to improve. They're building a platform that genuinely serves its community. They've even launched an equity crowdfunding round, giving users a chance to invest in the platform's future.
