5/5Gladly Purchased Pro, Thank You
Because I dig this app a lot and because you didn’t go the unethical route and turn this app into another unwarranted subscription plan. Well, I was more than glad to just make the Pro purchase. Thank you for not being immoral scum and just adding a Pro option to help support development instead of ruining this app with another pointless subscription. If you want to add another in-app purchase that isn’t a subscription in the future I will gladly purchase that as well. I’m so very angered that you ruined Halide with a subscription. But, since you didn’t do that here I’m more than glad to show my appreciation and support and I would recommend other users do the same to show gratitude for a very rare and upstanding move on the part of an App Store developer. Thank you for being a normal, non-greedy developer in this instance. You’ve won back some of my respect that you justifiably lost with what you did to Halide. Thanks and God bless. I mean it, too, if you handle the monetization of your apps in this ethical manner I will always be glad to support you. And, I’d separate my review into multiple paragraphs like an normal person. But, for whatever asinine reason that I cannot fathom. Apple, condenses all of my reviews, regardless of having separate paragraphs, into a single paragraph every time. So, no point in trying to maintain grammatical order when they are just going to screw it up every time.

3/5Sounded good, but disappointed once installed
I have tried a few cameras over the years trying to make my iPhone be a decent substitute for my Nikon DSLR, so I gave Spectre a try. (I did not pay for the Pro feature(s) which may help, but I was severely underwhelmed! In its base form it appears it does not offer any features that the included camera does not. The only thing I saw that was slightly interesting is the included "AI", on a long shutter, slowly begins to make moving objects in the field of view disappear, but since (without paying) it will only give a 3 second exposure, the objects just become blurred blobs if color. I tried to set the shutter time up to 5 seconds, but this just pops their ad wanting you to buy the Pro version. Overall there is nothing "wrong" with Spectre, but it doesn't offer anything more than the built-in camera and actually has less options. I'm sorry but I'll just have to pass and continue my search for the perfect camera app.

4/5Still parts of the image lose detail.
I bought this app as soon as I heard of it, because the Halide team is excellent. And this does seem to perform better than its competitors from my initial experience. That said, it has a critical weak point that seems completely fixable. I’ve taken several shots with my iPhone stabilized completely still, and then taken the same shot in Halide. Areas where there is no movement at all are not as detailed as they could be. It seems totally fixable, and I expect the Halide team will improve this flaw quickly. Which is why I still give four stars. Halide has been at the cutting edge of iOS camera apps since it was first released, and has set the bar, frankly. I expect Spectre is going to be that, even if it isn’t quite perfect from the start. Oh yeah, and the Live Photos support works beautifully, it looks like a moving slow shutter, which is just lovely.

3/5Screen Tearing Problem (fixed)
Edit: the particular bug has been fixed and I’ve been playing around with the app. It’s pretty good, and my only complaint now is that it’s running a bit slow on my iPhone 6 Plus and that the photos I take are somewhat blurry than usual. Perhaps you could improve the performance a bit and fix the blurry photos?But other than that, this app is still pretty good and has a good concept to it. I think the concept of this app is really cool and using AI to enhance your photos, so I downloaded it but I couldn’t even use it and take a picture without this weird screen tearing bug. I re-installed the app and tried again and the problem persists. I’m assuming this app was just recently launched, so I understand there’s a lot of bugs to be fixed and I’ll gladly update my review once this particular bug gets fixed, otherwise I’ll be deleting the app and demanding a refund.

As a lover of the Halide app and UI I was excited to try Spectre. Although I’m impressed by the computational long exposures, I was surprised there’s little to no options for manual controls. There’s apps on the store now just as a 3rd-party camera app that gives you manual control over exposure time (Ex. Camera+ & ProShot) - some of which have exposure times in the double digits instead of Spectre’s 9 sec maximum. I understand Halide’s business strategy by creating & charging for a separate app so it can focus on specific features separately. But that’s what Ben & Sebastian (devs) need to do: make Spectre more feature/detailed so it’s “focused” on being an excellent slow shutter app. As a consumer I don’t want to feel like this app or it’s features coulda just been an add-on to Halide. Make me believe I need to purchase it separately because it’s feature rich: unlimited or high long exposure time (30sec max at least?), manual exposure times (not just 3, 5, & 9 sec.) ISO manual controls (not EV comp), option to save non-live photos in a higher format (PNG, TIFF, RAW?), computation night sky mode?? :) I hope you know I don’t go out of my way to write a review unless I believe it has the promise for change & I love the app. I love the dev’s potential, I’ve seen it in Halide, and both have simple/sleek UI, I wouldn’t write this if I didn’t believe feedback is a gift. I want you guys to succeed. I hope to see new features so I can keep supporting you guys and recommend.

If you're upgrading to iOS 14, this update should fix a problem with the status bar not disappearing after you review your photos. It also fixes an issue that might pop up from setting photo library permissions to "Limited." We apologize if you run into an issue running Spectre for the first time after upgrading; you may be shown the opening tutorial launch, and then prompted for photo library permissions. The surprise release of iOS 14 caught us a bit off guard, so a bug fix didn't make the cut. We promise to do a better job planning around these surprises in the future.           "body": "I have tried a few cameras over the years trying to make my iPhone be a decent substitute for my Nikon DSLR, so I gave Spectre a try. (I did not pay for the Pro feature(s) which may help, but I was severely underwhelmed! In its base form it appears it does not offer any features that the included camera does not. The only thing I saw that was slightly interesting is the included \"AI\", on a long shutter, slowly begins to make moving objects in the field of view disappear, but since (without paying) it will only give a 3 second exposure, the objects just become blurred blobs if color. I tried to set the shutter time up to 5 seconds, but this just pops their ad wanting you to buy the Pro version. Overall there is nothing \"wrong\" with Spectre, but it doesn't offer anything more than the built-in camera and actually has less options. I'm sorry but I'll just have to pass and continue my search for the perfect camera app.",

          "body": "I bought this app as soon as I heard of it, because the Halide team is excellent. And this does seem to perform better than its competitors from my initial experience. That said, it has a critical weak point that seems completely fixable. I’ve taken several shots with my iPhone stabilized completely still, and then taken the same shot in Halide. Areas where there is no movement at all are not as detailed as they could be. It seems totally fixable, and I expect the Halide team will improve this flaw quickly. Which is why I still give four stars. Halide has been at the cutting edge of iOS camera apps since it was first released, and has set the bar, frankly. I expect Spectre is going to be that, even if it isn’t quite perfect from the start. Oh yeah, and the Live Photos support works beautifully, it looks like a moving slow shutter, which is just lovely.",

          "body": "Edit: the particular bug has been fixed and I’ve been playing around with the app. It’s pretty good, and my only complaint now is that it’s running a bit slow on my iPhone 6 Plus and that the photos I take are somewhat blurry than usual. Perhaps you could improve the performance a bit and fix the blurry photos?But other than that, this app is still pretty good and has a good concept to it. I think the concept of this app is really cool and using AI to enhance your photos, so I downloaded it but I couldn’t even use it and take a picture without this weird screen tearing bug. I re-installed the app and tried again and the problem persists. I’m assuming this app was just recently launched, so I understand there’s a lot of bugs to be fixed and I’ll gladly update my review once this particular bug gets fixed, otherwise I’ll be deleting the app and demanding a refund.",

          "body": "As a lover of the Halide app and UI I was excited to try Spectre. Although I’m impressed by the computational long exposures, I was surprised there’s little to no options for manual controls. There’s apps on the store now just as a 3rd-party camera app that gives you manual control over exposure time (Ex. Camera+ & ProShot) - some of which have exposure times in the double digits instead of Spectre’s 9 sec maximum. I understand Halide’s business strategy by creating & charging for a separate app so it can focus on specific features separately. But that’s what Ben & Sebastian (devs) need to do: make Spectre more feature/detailed so it’s “focused” on being an excellent slow shutter app. As a consumer I don’t want to feel like this app or it’s features coulda just been an add-on to Halide. Make me believe I need to purchase it separately because it’s feature rich: unlimited or high long exposure time (30sec max at least?), manual exposure times (not just 3, 5, & 9 sec.) ISO manual controls (not EV comp), option to save non-live photos in a higher format (PNG, TIFF, RAW?), computation night sky mode?? :) I hope you know I don’t go out of my way to write a review unless I believe it has the promise for change & I love the app. I love the dev’s potential, I’ve seen it in Halide, and both have simple/sleek UI, I wouldn’t write this if I didn’t believe feedback is a gift. I want you guys to succeed. I hope to see new features so I can keep supporting you guys and recommend.",
