1. 4/5Great app!

   The only thing stopping me from giving this 5 stars is the fact that it doesn't have anything to add pictures or audio. From it's kind, however, it's one of the best. Most of the people are kind and helpful ( although I would recommend, if you're a teenage girl, to not accept dm's from older men because they hardly ever want to talk about languages, so it's a bit unsafe but if you don't talk to them it'll be fine.). The opportunity to correct people is good. There are good filters if you want to keep safe. There is a wide variety of languages. It's a safe app for kids, as you can filter out older people. There is an option to block, report, or just deny a text. There are no bugs, besides when sometimes when I text something, it doesn't show up for a bit, but it always goes through. That's really all. I would definitely recommend it, but you should at least be a little mature. It's a simple app, straight to the point, and that's what makes it great. If you want to practice language without navigating the site for hours, get this. It's definitely a great app.

   i have learned soooo much from this app. i wish i would have found out about it sooner. i love that native spanish speakers are able to correct my wording so that it sounds more natural, and that i can learn about places from all over the world. since i am a 20 year old girl, i have gotten around 1000 messages in 3 weeks, which is definitely entertaining, but can be a little scary too. be careful who you talk to. i have learned that if someone asks for a voice message or picture (which the app doesn’t allow) within the first few messages, i should probably stop talking to them. one bug that i hate is that messages don’t send if you’re not connected to wifi. it’s really hard to write long messages in another language multiple times. overall, this app has taught me so much and given me an opportunity to practice my spanish, which is exactly what i was looking for. i highly recommend it.

3. 1/5I’d love to give it five stars but I can’t

   Speaky glitches so bad I can’t use it. After the first few sentences the typing becomes glacial- I have to wait several seconds in between keystrokes. That’s when it can even connect Me. About two thirds of the time it can’t find a network connection or simply says “something went wrong”. Mind you, I can stream video all day long. It’s not a problem on My end. I can conduct live video conference calls on other apps with zero problems- only Speaky has this issue. What makes it even more sad is that a few years ago I was on Speaky and Loved it. It’s the greatest platform for finding language exchange partners, bar none. Even Tandem isn’t as good- smaller userbase that’s less communicative and more self-censored. Speaky is large and active and very open. And like I said I loved it, but whatever updates they made, it just doesn’t work anymore, which is sad. Even the website doesn’t work. 🤷‍♂️

4. 2/5What Age Is Appropriate For Users To Contact

   I’m just going to get to the point, its extremely weird that this app has no way to filter out what age group should you be able to message and who can message you. In my country of the USA, It’s illegal and extremely weird for a minor (who is under the age of 18) to be able to message people 18 and way above. I’m 15 and I’ve been sent unwanted nudity and love messages from people 30-50 YEARS OLD. Why do you allow this on your app? I hate opening this app and having to block almost every person that messages me. For adults, I’ve heard adults saying how uncomfortable it is for children messaging THEM. I’m reading in the children's bio’s on this app pleading for adults not to message them. That’s ridiculous and nobody should have to write that apart of their bio. This app needs serious rearrangements.

5. 1/5Great idea - awful app

   How did this app even get released? It’s constantly shutting down and giving me error messages. The only options they give you to sign up with - Facebook and Google are extremely buggy. The layout and graphics are disgustingly ugly and amateur. The language options are also lacking. They show the Portuguese flag for Portuguese, even though the majority of learners want to learn Brazilian portuguese since it’s more widely spoken, there’s no way to differentiate. It’s almost like the developers have very little knowledge of languages. I didn’t get far enough to see the quality of users and the messaging system because just tapping on someone’s profile made the app shut down. TDLR: underdeveloped app, seems like the developers have very limited knowledge in both languages (and their nuances, such as dialects) and app programming. Spend your time somewhere better.
