1. 5/5Good deals on wide range of things

   There are other apps I use to get things at a discount, but this is by far the first app I check for deals. This isn't full of clear-out, leftover stock that didn't sell somewhere. Its deals are posted by other users and the is a comment section where people comment on their experience and on tech stuff, their expertise with some users asking if a certain product is comparable with their current setup, if there is a better deal, or not a deal at all. Users get reputation points so you see who comments and who posts deals. It's not a review section where you have to figure out which ratings are promoted or promotions. You can save deals to come back later and but and it tells you if the deal has expired and you can filter your feed to your preference. It takes a minute to get used to the layout but overall it has what the others are lacking.

2. 5/5Nearly Unusable

   At its current state, this app is nearly unusable. Every couple seconds of scrolling, you will get an ad pop up between your deal list. This would be acceptable if that was it. But each time you get one of these ads (very frequently), your scrolling position on the deal list will be moved seemingly at random. The worst of it is that it can send you all the way back to the top of the page (good luck reaching where you were just at with the bombardment of ads on your way back down the list). If you’re looking for an incredibly frustrating experience, then this is the app for you in its current state.

3. 3/5Automatic Refresh

   Overall I really like the Slickdeals app. But what I hate is the automatic refresh of the page/tab that you are looking on. For example you are scrolling through the deals on a page and lets say you are half way through or wherever you are on that page of deals and then you switch to a different app and then you switch back to the slickdeals app and now you are back at the top of the list of deals and now you have to scroll down to find where you left off. It is really annoying to say the least. I wish there was a way to disable that. DEVELOPERS: Can you disable that? Can we go back to the old way where you pull down or push up on the page to refresh the page. Maybe when there are new items added to a particular tab there is a notice at the top saying “New items added. Pull down or push up on the page to refresh that tab”, or other simple notification. PLEASE and THANK YOU!

4. 1/5Redesign is awful - I rarely say that about an app’s UI

   I’m not sure if they even tested the new redesign, but wow, where to begin… The font is too big and almost entirely the same size in all sections, which makes it hard to parse. There is a severe lack of negative space, which again makes it hard to read and identify where deals begin and end. The section headers are too small and blend in with the deal text. For three new main colors seem to be black, gray and white… which, surprise surprise, makes it hard to read. Notice a theme here? When the entire point of your site/app is predicated on READING TEXT (i.e., reading the text of deals) and the redesign makes it difficult to do that, then you have a major problem… I now use the mobile version of the site on my phone. It lacks some of the features of the app of course, but the reduction in cognitive load is definitely worth it. Fingers crossed that they roll back the changes sooner than later.

5. 2/5Negative Helpful?

   How can something be negative helpful? If a comment is helpful to one person but not helpful to someone else, does that mean it cancels out and the comment was not helpful at all? What kind of logic is this? Yet here you will see these negative helpful comments throughout slickdeals. This results in a community that uses the helpful buttons to essentially downvote anyone not telling a joke or telling them how to get something for free. People downvote friendly input and upvote jokes and snide remarks. Just look at any post in the app and you’ll see. I get more pop-up ads from this app than any other app because the ads load after the rest of the content so your finger might be resting where an ad appears and it’s ultra quick to load them. The app also asks for an explanation if you downvote a deal but not if you upvote it. It’s an unnecessary step that should be omitted.
