   I have a heat pump with a gas furnace installed for 2 weeks now and so far I love it! It is a 3 zone system and operates SO much better than the original system. The app is good, but I would love to see a way to turn on the circulation fan for a preset period of time. I had Nest thermostats before and used that feature a lot. Also, the app seems to have issues staying accurate without intervention. For example, I turn the set point up so the heat will come on, the unit starts, but the app doesn’t want to update to show the heat is running without refreshing or closing it and reopening. Definitely an improvement opportunity. Likewise if I have the app open and the unit stops, it will usually show everything running until I do something to cause it to refresh; and yes I am giving it plenty of time to do update on it’s own.

   Like the other reviewer, I recently switched from an Ecobee based system to the Daikin Fit. The hardware is great, but the thermostat UI and iOS App could use some more work. In the App and on the Thermostat we need to see what equipment is running. Furnace or Heat pump? What’s the switchover temperature? Percent load? How long has it been running (recently, today), COP? Power/Gas consumption? The new Ecobee App (and BeeStat) give a wealth of data about runtimes, duty cycle, indoor and outdoor weather. Joe average consumer has no idea whether his heat pump is saving him any money or not, nor does he know what switchover temperature he should use based on the cost of fuel and how hard his system has to work to heat his house. What would be fantastic would be if we could enter our local cost of fuel (electric, nat gas, propane, etc.), and then based on historical system usage, you could develop an algorithm or AI to recommend or set the optimal changeover temp for duel fuel systems. I’ve also found that my dual fuel system tends to overshoot the temperature set point when running the furnace. As a result, I’ve had to widen my automatic switchover (heating to cooling) swing temperature to 3F versus my usual 2F. You need to be able to set a switch over delay time so that, for example, the air conditioner wont start if the furnace/HP was running in the past 15-60min to prevent the furnace overshoot from triggering the AC.

   Daikon Heating & Cooling with auxiliary. It was new in 2021 and is a high efficiency heat pump that heats and cools our home beautifully but we do have the auxiliary gas furnace helping at times. It is by far the most comfortable heating and cool we’ve ever had in 50+ years. And it the most efficient in cost of operation that we have ever have. One thing I like you very much about it is the Internet thermostat. It does so many things well. Nevertheless, if the blower could be controlled with different time cycles, just like the heating and cooling it would improve the comfort and efficiency levels even more because at different times you want blower to be on high or low At different times on different days in the morning or evening especially if your home is on two levels. I also would like to see the thermostat have 10 or 12 time levels instead of eight because you could slowly ramp up heating and cooling for night and day and probably not use the auxiliary furnace much at all. We have a home and away feature and the ability to heat the home up when we’re away or out of town or when we’re coming home, we can control it from anywhere in the world where we have Internet. Our Daikon heat pump is wonderful for us and performs very well in our climate north of Seattle Washington.

4. 3/5Ultimately works, but needs improvement to the UI

   This app certainly works and gets the job done, but it’s a bit like using a sledgehammer to hang a small picture. It needs refinement. My biggest complaint is that I can’t set ONE temperature. I have to set a heating temp AND a cooling temp AND they can’t be any closer than 5º apart. Meaning: if I want my house at 72º, the best I can do is set the heat for 69º and the air at 74º and hope for the best. It’s probably not a big deal in most places, but Central Florida in the winter where it gets ‘cool’ at night, and still relatively warm during the day, I’m constantly manually changing the set temperature, or having to calculate & tweak my schedule settings in an attempt to keep the house temperature where I want it. Can we PLEASE just be able to dictate ONE temperature and the super sophisticated and smart thermostat figure out what needs be done to maintain that temperature based on the real time environmental conditions? It just doesn’t seem like it should be that hard, and it’s all software and UI design. Further, I really liked the Ecobee thermostats that I installed in my previous house, but of course, that’s not an option with a new Daikin system. With them, I set one temperature & it was Apple HomeKit enabled, so I could adjust anything about the system from my Apple Watch.

   I had an Ecobee thermostat for about 2 years so I admit I am a little spoiled. But when I needed to replace my system, I chose the Daikin Fit paired with the Daikin One Touch thermostat which seems very good so far. But I really miss basic things like opening the app and being able to tell exactly what my HVAC system was doing whether it’s cooling, heating (auxiliary heating coils or not), fan mode & speed. Not so with the Daikin. You can’t tell by the app what’s going on at all. You can’t even tell if it’s running. Sometimes the outside unit is running for no reason and there’s no way to know why. If Daikin is reading this, please try imitating the Ecobee’s functions. With a few improvements, the Daikin system and app would be THE BEST residential HVAC system period. IMO. UPDATE: Feb 2025. Not sure if Daikin made improvements or if I’m just now noticing but the app is reporting, for the most part, what it’s doing. Thanks Daikin! I’m changing my rating from 3 to 4 stars. UPDATE: Mar 2025. I’m wishing I had bought another brand. Out of the blue my t-stat is 4-5 degrees off with no obvious way to recalibrate so I’m hoping my installer can fix it. Also, still not pleased with the info the app reports regarding the status. The A/C just kicked on high blowing freezing cold air (normally this is good). The app shows the set point at 69, room temp is 68, and not description of why it’s on. As someone else mentioned, it could be the t-stat or the app. Who knows? At this point, I’m not happy with Daikin and I should have stayed with Trane. Back to 2 stars.
