  1. 5/5Excellent email app

Overall, the Shortwave Email app is an excellent tool for managing emails. The clean and intuitive interface makes it easy to compose, send, and receive messages. One of the app's standout features is its ability to handle attachments seamlessly. The app also provides reliable delivery confirmations, giving users peace of mind that their messages have been successfully transmitted. The current search functionality allows users to browse through their inbox and sent items, which is helpful for finding past conversations. However, a minor enhancement that could further improve the app would be the addition of a search feature specifically for emails from a selected contact. This would enable users to quickly locate all correspondence with a specific person, which can be especially useful when trying to reference a previous discussion or find an important piece of information. Implementing this search-by-contact capability would further streamline the user experience and make the Shortwave Email app an even more powerful tool. Overall, the Shortwave Email app is a reliable and user-friendly solution for emails. Its robust feature set and consistent performance make it a highly recommended choice for anyone in need of a versatile and efficient shortwave email solution.

  2. 5/5Professional, modern email app for MacOS

I almost never leave reviews, but I'm leaving one for Shortwave because: it works. The landscape of email clients on MacOS is an apocalyptic wasteland of good ideas terribly executed, and Shortwave has finally ended my multi-year search for an email client that works like a modern, professional email client should. The AI integration works, too. Yes, it hiccups, but this is brand-new technology and although immature, it has already saved me time. I'm beginning more accustomed to chatting about my email, and less reliant on search. I honestly have almost zero complaints. Better spam sensing, sure. Easier to block folks, yeah. But really, my one yellow flag is that the front end needs some more work. By its nature, Shortwave is aimed at people who are forced to navigate information-dense interfaces, and the front-end doesn't really support that as well as the underlying features do. It's just fine for day-to-day use, but I'm sure that's on the team's radar and am looking forward to how that changes over time. And there's an iPad app! If you've been wondering why you can't have a feature-rich, pro-oriented email experience on MacOS, instead of one that looks like "My First Email by Playskool", just sign up. You won't regret it.

  3. 5/5Great for fine-tuning your inbox

I love the ability to fine-tune my email inbox with Shortwave—setting schedules for receiving newsletters and promotional emails during off hours means fewer distractions. And getting to Inbox Zero is easy and intuitive, if that’s your thing. While I don’t use the AI features (I’m a professional writer and the nature and volume of my email correspondence wouldn’t benefit from an AI ghostwriter), I can see how the app’s AI agent could be very helpful to people who have to process a lot of complex or sensitive emails every day. I also have to credit the team with a quick and thorough response to a help request. Regarding price, at $80 a year for the personal version, renewal is still an open question; we’ll see how sticky this gets by renewal time. At $60 it would be an easy yes; a price hike would likely send me back to Gmail.

  4. 5/5Best email app I’ve ever used, and evolving

Like many people searching for a better email solution—something that doesn't lack essential features or lethargically sit on long-standing issues—I’ve tried numerous mail apps over the years. Email is a challenging problem due to its outdated protocol, which imposes strict limitations. Shortwave seems to have figured it out, at least better than most others that I’ve seen. Instead of adding pointless features that bloat the app, it focuses on incremental improvements, where each change makes sense individually and is not just random idea from the last bored developer while he was taking a dump. Since I started using Shortwave, managing my email has been much less painful. It has a clean, responsive interface, and efficiently offloads tasks to Gmail in the background, maintaining a clear separation of responsibilities for a seamless integration. When I've encountered bugs and contacted support, they've responded immediately and resolved the issues promptly. What else could you want from an email app?

  5. 5/5A Mainstay in my Workflow

Last year I spent a while searching for an email platform that utilized AI, but was also efficient and intuitive. I’m someone who receives a high volume of emails each day, and I needed away to triage it all to prevent overwhelm. I demoed quite a few different softwares before finding Shortwave. The very first thing that drew me in was the “Shortwave Method,” or Shortwave’s proprietary method of managing emails. I realized then that I wasn’t just looking for a software, but an entirely different mentality when thinking about email management. Shortwave doesn’t just provide a technical system, they provide a belief system. Their belief is that a 0-email inbox can be achieved regularly, and that communication should be easy and fun. This app makes me check my inbox like it’s social media; I find myself wanting to be in it because I’m so comfortable with the product as a whole. I’ve subscribed and unsubscribed to a lot of things, but so far I’ve never questioned a Shortwave expense. There’s water, electricity, and Shortwave 🫡 I will happily continue paying for it as long as long as they stick to/expand on their vision.
