1. 5/5Unreadable Maps

   I’ve used RV Life Pro for the past 5 years. It has effectively kept me safe from low bridges and dead-end roadways. Its campground reviews have been very beneficial as well. But, one persistent issue will cause me try other products / services after my current subscription expires. The fonts on RV Life maps don’t scale. You - or, I at least - cannot read the highway names or numbers on their maps. The larger I expand the maps, the more unreadable the highway designations. I end up having to employ an old school magnifying glass to my laptop screen. Totally forget about viewing the maps on my iPhone or the large screen in my truck. I mentioned this to their support team in the past and they repeatedly promise to take the matter up with their cartographer … nothing changes. I really don’t understand why this problem even exists much less cannot be remedied. I don’t see that problem in any other digital mapping product. Scaleable fonts have been part and parcel to Google maps for decades now. So, I don’t get why there is this problem but, apparently, RV Life doesn’t see it as a priority thus driving me to find a more readable alternative. I’ll miss them, but I suspect I will get over that.

2. 4/5Planner is great. GPS 4.0 is good but needs work still

   We are full-time RVers going strong for 1 year and have used this app for trip planning. We depend on this app 100% and even use the RV Safe GPS. Yes, the estimated eta is conservative and we always arrive at our destination earlier than the estimate compared to Waze, Apple, and Google estimates, but I think that’s because most safe RVers drive slower than the marked speed limit. There are settings for entering your max speed on the highways which you can experiment with. My only negatives are very minor with the GPS. In the older versions of the app, we only had one incident where we were directed down a back road that was was one way and narrow with tight turns where an adjacent main road would have been desired. Also, the new 4.0 version map display seems to have issues. I’ve had to kill the app and restart it to reset the map and remove splotches of graphical objects. In addition, the CarPlay map seems to be zoomed way in and I’d like to be able to zoom it out a bit. Overall, I love the app and will continue to use it. GPS part just needs some work still. I’m an app developer and sometimes wonder why they don’t just tap into the Waze or Google map API. I would especially appreciate the turn by turn voice from one of their engines rather than the robotic sounding one.

   I’ve been using RV Life Pro since Mar 2025. It’s a good source of information, and does better than others trip planning. Recently they partnered with Harvest Hosts (also a member) and I thought that was going to be great. It needs more integration, as the HH sites are not always showing up. Also the filter option in the map needs some work. When you filter by your needs/desires and rig, almost nothing comes up. But clear the filters and they appear. I also think the interface to the trip planning is too click intense, need to simplify getting to the trip planner. Also, I get annoyed with the constant banners to join as Pro, I’m already paying for Pro, so should be smart enough to know that and remove the banner. Currently I have to use 3 different apps to do all I need to do for planning, wouldn’t it great if this one was one stop shopping!?! All that said I do like the trip planning general functionality and the ability to plan multiple trips and have them tentative while making changes. This app has so much potential, it should be leveraged to make it “great”. I’ll keep using and hoping.

4. 1/5Nice features but, not user friendly and questionable routes…

   The app has nice features for RV navigation however, it is a little frustrating that there is no Apple Car play functionality. If I want my phone to be physically plugged in(for charging) my CarPlay takes over and the app switches off of the map to the turn by turn directions. I can see the map if it’s plugged into my vehicle as well as the map does not show up on my CarPlay screen. So, I have to unplug my phone just to be able to use the map during navigation and then wait for a long stretch to plug my phone in so it can charge. Also, it is a little counterintuitive when trip planning; you have to be on an actual web browser to plan your trip. Can’t do it from the app. The trip wizard is funny too. Things don’t make sense when you add a destination for your trip. Very hard to figure out. Bottom line, there needs to be Apple CarPlay functionality or at minimum if there was a feature to push the route to Apple or Google maps. It’s clear that there are a bunch of bugs that need to be worked out as well as the route suggestions need to be worked on too. I just did my first trip with it yesterday and it had me going through all kinds of backroads with low hanging trees and power lines where I was certain I would have been fine if I stayed on the major highways. Lastly, maybe make it to where we can plan a trip using the app instead of having to go back and forth between a web browser and the app. It has some cool features but it’s clear that it needs a lot of work. I will be canceling my subscription. Oh! You also have to pay for the subscription if you want to use it. Not cool.

5. 1/5So many missing features!!

   I need an app that will warn me of low bridges, narrow road and poor routes for my motorhome. I also need an app that gives me functions that make traveling in the RV easier and safer. For instance, in Google Maps, I can change my view to satellite and then zoom in and out. That is very valuable because I am traveling with a 40’ motorhome and towing a Jeep. Zooming in on the satellite image allows me to see the layout of rest stops, truck stops, towns so I know how to approach them. This allows for better navigation planning. In RV Life, once I hit “start” I can’t look ahead on the map or anything. I also can’t change to satellite or zoom in or out. As a result, your app is pretty much worthless. In addition, your navigation instructions in metro areas really stink!! For instance, if I’m using Google maps and I need to take the ramp on the right but stay in the left lane of the ramp because I’m then going left, it will tell me ahead of time so I can plan my lane changes. Your app doesn’t tell me about things like that until the last second. It’s dangerous!! We recently went through Indianapolis using your app and were cut off twice by semi trucks simply because we didn’t know which lane to me in when going down ramps! I have used your detailed directions for a route to compare with Google Maps but your instructions are formatted so much differently than Google Maps that it’s almost impossible to compare. I’m very discouraged. Maybe someday you will change these problems. Or maybe Google Maps will add features to include height and length of vehicles.

   I do not like that they have taken away the ability to review the route on the app. That needs to be done on my computer, and I don't want to have to pull out the computer every time I want to check something, or simply review the route. Ir will give me the turn-by-turn, but I want to see the map.
