  1. 3/5Very Flawed.

The only reason I’m giving this three stars is because it’s getting me ten percent off my auto insurance. Depending on my score, it could save me more. Now to address several flaws. First is the sudden braking. If you stop at a stoplight, stop sign, or are yielding in a left turn lane to enter a business. It registers as sudden braking and lowers your score. Next is speeding. No matter what the speed limit, as long as you stay under eighty miles per hour, you are not penalized for speeding. I drive on a highway where speed limit is seventy five, so it’s pretty touchy. Next is time of day driving. I work rotating shifts at a paper mill. I do a lot of evening and early morning driving. Get deducted for that also. My current score is a 5.2 out of ten. Nowhere near enough to get a bigger discount. Fix these issues, and I’ll give a better score.

  2. 3/5Lowers your score if you drive at night

I have this app because Farm Bureau requires it for discounted auto rates. I have 117 trips with perfect results but my score should be 10 and it’s 9.3 because occasionally I need to drive at either 9 or 10 PM for my business. Apparently they think you should only drive certain hours of the day and that’s not realistic. If I had to drive every night, I’m sure I would have a terrible score. I think this is a significant flaw and should be reconfigured.

  3. 2/5Not a fan of this app

My insurance company requires this app in order to get a discount, so it’s a necessary evil. But this is like big brother is watching you but doesn’t know what it is seeing, and there is no way to give feedback or challenge an “event.” I pretty much understand the speed category, keep it under 80 and you’re not speeding. Focus: don’t interact with your phone while driving, since the app is on the phone, it knows. What it doesn’t seem to know is if your map app didn’t take you to the right destination, or there is a road closure that the app didn’t detect, and you pull into a parking lot and open the map app, you’ll get gigged for an event. Sudden braking is glitchy. It has logged a sudden braking event when I made a left turn into my community. Time of day is the worst one though. I tend to drive between 9 in the morning and 7 in the evening. Apparently it doesn’t like the time I drive because that is the category I get gigged the most. I can’t really change the times and places I drive to. If you’re not required to use this app, I wouldn’t get it. It’s not really a good teaching tool to encourage safer driving habits.

  4. 1/5Too much battery

Up until recently I would have given this app maybe 3 stars because it was just okay. It often thinks I am a driver even though I am a passenger. I actually had to reclassify one trip because I was on a plane. No, I am not driving 150mph on a runway at a major airport-duh. Make the app smart enough to filter those things out. But in the last month or so I’ve noticed this app uses too much power. If I am driving, my battery goes down super fast. At then end of the day over 50% of my battery usage is from this app. This needs to be fixed. Unfortunately, if I don’t use it, I don’t get my insurance discount.

  5. 1/5Required by Insurance, But It’s a Battery-Draining Nightmare

I only have this app because my insurance requires it for a discount. I would never choose it otherwise. After using it, I understand why reviews like this exist. The battery drain alone is alarming. This single app accounts for 54% or more of my battery usage. That’s not a background app. That’s a liability. The bigger issue is how poorly it detects whether you’re a driver or a passenger. It consistently records me as the driver when I’m clearly a passenger…if someone is on their phone the entire time a vehicle is moving, that’s a pretty strong signal they are not driving. A well-designed app should be able to figure that out. This one can’t. It also has zero reason to track my location constantly, yet it does. There’s no justification for that level of data collection for what this app is supposed to do. I could go on, but what’s the point…insurance is still going to require this insanity.
