5/5A Must-Have if you travel by train in Spain
This has made all of our travel and ticket purchases incredibly easy. No need to go to the station and purchase tickets there. You can plan ahead; it keeps track of all your tickets and you can store to your Apple wallet. It even reminds you when it’s time to take the train. Best app I’ve downloaded for use in Spain.

3/5Impossible to change tickets using the app
I have a ticket class (Elige Confort) that permits me to change tickets once for free. When I go through the workflow, after I pick my new seat, the Continue button is non-clickable. Clearly a coding error. Also, the checkout seems to suggest that you will be charged again for your new ticket even though you are just changing time of travel with no change fee. I will have to try to do this change in person at station as the website is even worse (I am an experienced user of that website). Clearly the app has improved recently since it now accepts Apple Pay and tickets go into Apple Wallet, but there are still hidden bugs when you try to do things more complicated than buying ticket. If AI bots are replacing humans, they better not replace humans at train station ticket counters.

3/5Works for the patient customers
This app is 95% there. But that 5% of unpolished and not well-tested software makes for a very frustrating experience. After paying with my credit card and authorizing the purchase, I returned to the Renfe app only to see the initial payment screen again, as though I had not entered the info and had not payed. Now what?! I saw the charge on my CC so now what do I do?! I just killed the app and restarted it and voila, the tickets were actually there under My Journeys. The website is similarly frustrating. We’re talking about the largest train company in Spain that cannot do proper QA of its application and website?! Come on guys!

2/5Renfe Ticket Application decent not great!
The Renfe Ticket Application decent not great! When trying to lookup a train to take some days says no trains or tickets available, go online on laptop plenty of tickets available! Trying to buy tickets is hit or miss if working correctly then pretty easy and simple but most times very difficult and buggy. Best use for app is to display your ticket to pass gate and the reminders that come up in your calendar for trips. For purposes of purchasing tickets it is a 1/5 Stars. This application could be solid 4 stars if working correctly but sadly it is a headache most of the time.

1/5Worst app I’ve ever experienced
While the Renfe app is marginally better than their website, which wouldn’t even let me finish checking out, this app is still one of the worst I’ve encountered in the modern era. It feels like it was built in 2008 my developers first learning how to develop for the iPhone. Purchasing tickets forces you to create an account, and the account creation flow is one of the most frustrating I’ve encountered. Tapping the text field to input your passport number and then tapping again so that you can tap Paste (because people Copy their passport numbers from other apps) is exceedingly frustrating, as if you don’t hit a tiny tap target, it just closes the text field entirely. This means you’ll likely tap the passport field several times just trying to paste. When you enter your phone number at the bottom of the registration flow, the last step in the process, there is no button to dismiss the keyboard and say Done. The only button is the Back button, which takes you back to the home screen and erases all of your progress. The only way to finish signing up for an account is to figure out that if you tap the visibility button that hides whether the password is visible or not will also dismiss the keyboard, which will then let you hit the Confirm button to continue the registration process. Finally, when you finally are able to buy tickets, you’ll probably want to add them to your Apple Wallet. However, the Renfe app fails here too. There’s a “Download ticket” button, but all that does is download a PDF. There is also a smaller “Add to wallet” button above the ticket itself, but that of course doesn’t work and gives you a nondescript error. When I came back to the tickets, this button no longer appeared, and I have no idea how to find it again. Renfe needs to start from scratch on this app and hire a development team that knows what they’re doing. This iteration is an embarrassment and makes me want to take a plane instead of a train — and I love trains!
