1. 4/5Easy to use, couple of changes would be nice

   Truly, this app is set up well and not hard to use. One of my biggest frustrations is that when new messages are sent out via the bulletin board, I get a notification sent to my email that is only notifying me that there is a new post, and not the post information directly. Can’t the info just be sent via email? And if not… the next step is frustrating too: when you push the button to “view post” from your email, it takes you to their website, where you have to login. Instead, it would make more sense to push the “view post” button from your email and have it default to take you to the app (where I’m already logged in), NOT the website. Too many extra steps that could just be solved by sending the bulletin board info via email itself. Also, when I am viewing a list of all available assignments, sometimes I click on a particular one to get more information. If I decide not to accept it and want to go back to the list of all available assignments, I swipe right to go back to the screen that I was just on. This seems like the most intuitive thing to do, based on my experience on other apps functionality. However, swiping to the right takes me to the “More” tab. It feels wrong to go “back” to a screen I wasn’t even on.

2. 4/5Substitute Teacher

   I have been a substitute for the past two years in the district where I was employed for a long time. I used Red Rover as a teacher and now I’m using it as a substitute. It worked fine as a teacher and I was able to select days and subs quite easily on the site. However, as a substitute teacher, I’m finding Red Rover to be challenging. It works fine to pick up jobs and navigate the Red Rover app. The problem happens when trying to access lesson plans from classroom teachers and mirroring those plans from a glitchy Chromebook to a glitchy ViewBoard. The content (often Google Slides) is unpredictable. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Another issue is the ViewBoard going to “sleep” or getting logged off repeatedly and having to sign back on multiple times throughout the day. This can be the “kiss of death” in terms of maintaining effective classroom management as students have to wait for the instructional tools to be in place before learning can take place. Overall, Red Rover is a decent program, but it definitely needs to improve in certain areas….as does the technology for subs in the district.

3. 1/5Jobs already gone

   By the time I see them on my app exactly when it notifies me, they are already gone. And I’m seeing jobs at schools I hid. What’s the point of hiding them? I don’t understand preferences when I see jobs from schools I don’t want to work at. I don’t like this app, I’m not getting jobs. I have hidden schools I don’t want to see jobs from, like all the high schools and junior highs and I still see those jobs, so hiding schools doesn’t work. I worked pretty much every day the last 2 years on their old app, now the jobs are gone before I even tap them so they are NOT hitting everyone’s app at the same time. I hear the notification and can’t tap fast enough. And as filters, those don’t work either. I chose one and it goes back to no filters applied. Preferences says default. I guess that means all schools show, even though you have all schools as a choice. Other districts used the frontline app and I never had problems with it. I could actually choose the schools I’d work at and I then never saw jobs from ones I didn’t want to work at. And I could use Sub Alert that helped me see jobs first before they were gone. Your app is not one they support. I still don’t like your app as I’m used to working and picking the jobs I want. Now I’m not working as I can’t even get a job. I worked the first 3 weeks of school last year and pretty much worked every day in jobs I wanted. I’m a retired teacher.

4. 1/5Doesn’t work the way it says it does

   I only get alerts sounds for about 25% of jobs. The banners I do get may come through immediately or hours after the job has been posted. Jobs are not broadcast between 10 pm and 5 am yet I see new job banners at all hours of the night which is when I get most of my jobs and which shows they are not being received until hours after being broadcast. Likelihood of receiving notifications is affected by cellular carrier, WiFi speed, whether 4g or 5g, etc. which means it is not a fair system for subs who live in more rural areas compared to those who live in town. A laptop, an iPhone, AND an iPad in the same room get notifications of the same job at different times - if at all. Most jobs are gone even before the notification alert sound has ended. There is no “bank of jobs” to choose from. Using the app is akin to subs all lined up in front of a Walmart on Black Friday at 7 am pushing each other trying to be the first inside. The subs here hate it. I have taken jobs to find I was given an entirely different one on the list that I did not want. I have taken jobs that appeared as Full Day only to find they were half day. When canceling there is no option to choose “app error” when clearly the app was the problem. Being a sub now means having to have a cell phone which I have never had. Luckily a friend had an extra phone from his business he loaned me or I would be out of a job. It’s a nightmare and I hope the district returns to a more human system. After teaching middle school and university, this is quite a depersonalizing kick in the balls to deal with.

5. 4/5So easy to use that jobs are gone in a flash!

   Red Rover is so easy to use because you can block out days when you’re not available, cancel from the app when and if you need to, and monitor your schedule at a glance. For open positions, you have the option to receive text notifications, phone calls, or pop ups as banners on your phone. You can also search in the app for positions that are unfilled. It’s also great to be able to choose which dates of a longer-term position fit your schedule; you don’t have to select all of them. You can also receive half-day notices for the morning if you’re already booked for the afternoon. You won’t receive notices for new postings if you’re already fully booked on a given day, but you can see days where you are open, even if a position includes a day you’re already booked. The app is so easy to use that positions vanish in a flash, because all you have to do is click the “accept” button. I strongly recommend Red Rover. One suggestion for improvement: offer a button where jobs can be added to a Google calendar.
