  1. 5/5Perfect for lovers of film that can’t afford the hobby

Nomo Cam has become my goto camera app for capturing memories. I’ve always loved the film/analog look and even got into the film hobby for many years. But the cost of film, rarity of my favorite stocks, and ballooning prices for vintage glass and camera bodies is very discouraging. Not to mention the bulk of carrying a separate dedicated camera, lens, film rolls, and accessories makes shooting film inconvenient for me. This app has inspired me to get back into photography in the most convenient way, using the camera that’s always in my pocket. When I first downloaded the app there wasn’t much of a selection of cameras and styles but the Nomo team just keep adding more and more. My favorites so far being Aerochrome and the super 8 video style! I don’t know how they got the style of aerochrome so close the real thing but it’s quite impeccable. As for the super 8 video style I have been emulating super 8 with Filmic Pro and post editing in FCPX to get the style I want. But now it’s just a quick tap in Nomo Cam, super 8 is now a breeze for me to shoot! The only suggestion I have, that I hope is coming eventually, is to make a custom camera style. One where the user can pick their camera body and the film they want to use with it. Custom lenses seem like a difficult variable to throw in the mix so I wouldn’t be disappointed if we never see that feature. However, at least having custom bodies and a choice of films would make this app the perfect substitute for shooting film! Keep up the wonderful work team Nomo!

  2. 5/5Beautiful, unique app! I'm going to pay for the membership!

I've gone through many Polaroid wannabe apps, but this is way beyond any of the ones I've ever used. I love how it's realistic and the UI is so simple yet stunning. The developer is a genius! Other Polaroid apps it would just be the Polaroid frame around a picture, but this app's camera beautifully captures all the small details of what makes a Polaroid photo and Polaroid. I have a physical Polaroid and I've always loved the effects of it and how raw the photos developed. Now I finally get to do that in an app that it so worth paying the membership for! It's only $1.71/month?!?! AND they're releasing a new camera every two weeks. You don't have to buy the membership though. You can also pay $1 for each camera, but I believe the membership comes with exclusive features. So excited! With all these new cameras coming out I hope the creator doesn't stray away from the uniqueness and quality of each camera, because each one brings a special element that the others don't have. I love my NOMO!

  3. 5/5As a photographer here’s my opinion…after 6 years

For what it does, this app is amazing! It’s design and user interface is so simple and intuitive especially if you’ve ever used some of the cameras in the list. I do feel like some of the later releases (McDonald’s and lunar rabbits specifically) just don’t quite hit right and seems like a decline in quality. At one point I sent an email to the developer with an idea for an 8mm video camera and seems like within a few weeks one was released. You’re welcome… just kidding lol. Overall this is the perfect app for anyone who loves photography or specifically vintage photography. Let’s get to the price. The yearly subscription is fine. BUT after a few years of no new cameras it just feels like that random $20 a friend borrows but never returns. It does provide you with continued use of all the cameras but at some point they start to feel outdated as ironic as that sounds for a Vintage camera app lol. They haven’t added any new cameras in a long time. I’ll probably just go ahead and let the subscription end. As sad as that is. Hopefully some new cameras are in the works. I’d love to see other video cameras (hi-8, vhs, etc.) As for photos. Maybe some experimental vintage cameras with projector lens. Or cameras with interchangeable lens. Maybe play around with triple exposure. Honestly the future for this app could be so bright. Would love to assist in any ideas of necessary. Much love Long time fan.

  4. 5/5Amazing!

As someone who does film photography this is the best app for various cameras to give you a film-like image. It even has accurate images of the cameras they’re basing the filter off of! So some cameras have EV, double exposure, focusing, different lenses. It’s worth paying the yearly subscription. I did the trial which gives you all access for a week and I loved it so much, I subscribed! There are a variety of cameras, color, b&w and even different films loaded in the cameras (Kodachrome, Fuji, Kodak200, etc). With the subscription you can also import photos from your galleries. It’s really fun to use and was exactly what I was looking for in a film camera app (authentic looking film photos). You do have to pay for subscription, otherwise you only have a limited amount of cameras to use for free. There are options to buy individual cameras too, but the price for a year is worth it to me!

  5. 1/5works well, developers mostly ignore it

we used to get new cameras added pretty regularly, but the only new one to drop in the last year or so was a mcdonald’s advertising tie-in. the developers never answer email questions or fix bugs… would love it if they addressed the issues that cause this app and Nomo Raw to crash, or maybe added more features on a regular basis. it would be great for a one time purchase app, but you should expect more from a yearly subscription. UPDATE 9/8: I cancelled my NOMO membership a few months ago because the yearly cost wasn’t worth it for an app that’s only ever updated with promotional advertising tie-ins, and there were still at least two cameras offered in the free version that i used pretty regularly. Recently, they removed a feature from the free version and made it subscription exclusive - the ability to import previously taken photos and process them with the camera effects. They also moved one of the free cameras into the paid category. That was the last straw for me. Deleted the app and found a better, more feature rich and less expensive one that I prefer.
