  1. 5/5My Senior Lifeline!

After living in North Carolina for 10 years, I moved back to Jacksonville 14 months ago. When I first arrived, I was so appalled at Florida’s auto insurance rates (7 times higher than my exact policy with the same company in North Carolina) that I immediately sold my car and have been riding Ubers and buses ever since. After downloading the very useful JTA app, I was delighted to learn that seniors ride free! At age 75, riding free has been a godsend — especially given today’s high inflation rates and the unconscionably high cost of food while living on a fixed income. Today, a JTA driver I know only as Derrance made my day. He’s one of those good vibe people who can bring a smile to your face just by looking at you. While taking me up and down San Jose Boulevard on the 17 bus, Derrance proved to be a thoughtful and courteous individual who also drew praise from two of my fellow passengers. JTA is fortunate to have such a driver in its midst! I’d like to thank JTA for its ongoing efforts to improve bus service throughout the Jacksonville area. I also wish Derrance the very best!

  2. 1/5Good

You know these buses are horrible or should I say the drivers or most of them expecially the 19, 23 to be exact. They skip stops they don’t show up . Me and my girlfriend literally sat at a stop for two to 3 hours waiting on the 19and 23 . Then this morning at 10:31 the guy driving the 11 want to be rude saying no open cans on the bus but it was empty and I was just trying to throw it away so I didn’t have to throw it on the ground cuz there was no trash can around outside except for on the bus I could not even do that because he would not let me on till I got rid of it and I’m a paying customer. Then when these drivers get something said to them about how late or rude they get they try to kick u off and be rude back so unprofessional it’s not even funny . This stuff right here is exactly why people don’t like to ride the bus because they have to deal with rude employees who are unprofessional. Now I am on bus 2606 and I’m getting called racist by another customer who is African American that’s behind my wife in a wheelchair because I got upset because ur driver is making my wife who is in a wheelchair pay to ride but yet I ride the buses all day and anyone else in a wheelchair does not pay but as soon as we get on it’s a problem and then when I get upset about it I get called racist because I’m white or Hispanic and ur driver agrees with it how is it fair that all the other people in the wheelchairs around us don’t have to pay but my self and my wife who is in a wheelchair does and then gets called racist because I’m white

  3. 4/5Good most of the time.

Early mornings are the worst to figure out. App is pretty good most of the time but sometimes is misleading. For example I put in my destination and preferred arrival time and it gives me a resulting bus that arrives after the eta of my destination drop off. How can I arrive to work at 6:05am but only after the bus shows up at 6:45am? Or I when I plan my trip the night before through the MYJTA app it tells me a bus will be at the closest stop at Xam, about 4am, and I arrive early to look it up again and that bus doesn’t show up for another hour. It also doesn’t save the route I need to take when I plan ahead. I have to consistently check to make sure where I am to go and when and where the bus will be. Its been a good month now and I thought by now I’d have my route down. Granted I have a shifting schedule day to day. I feel the app sometimes, 1/4 of the time, it hinders me a lot so like today I grabbed a bunch of bus route pamphlets and have to sort it out and cross verify everything. Yes, I also downloaded the next bus app aswell. Still don’t feel confident the night before that I’ll make it to work on time and I get up 4hrs ahead of when I need to arrive for work….

  4. 1/5Functional, not intuitive

I have multiple phones. One sim card. That means, same number across all phones when I put said sim in. However your security protocol only allows for the use of one device. Meaning even if I had a family of devices that can support the app(tablet, phone)only the home device can be used. This is extremely frustrating and inconvenient. Not to mention that the bus system is one of the worst for a big city when compare to either LA or NY. I get it, per capita Jacksonville is bigger, but how my other two cities have double your population and more efficient transportation systems. More than 90 percent of the time your buses are late and about 15 percent of the time. They come early. My goodness. In the end, thank you for allowing me to get to my destinations. I just wish that I can get there when I set to, and not be at the mercy of a system that is borderline incompetent. Thank you.

  5. 4/5Great app, could use customization

If you want to plan a trip over public transportation, this app mostly has you covered. They notify you of route changes, new policies, and their 'best fare' program is fantastic(they'll automatically cap your ticket at the least expensive one you could've bought- brilliant) Only a few caveats. First, you can't adjust 'walk speed' if you have a scooter or such to cover more ground. You also can't disable the "ride share"(uber) suggestions, I assume because they've cut a deal to include them. The latter is generally why I can't quite love JTA as much as I'd like. They're a great agency, but their 3rd party deals are tied up in so much money, it feels like Public sentiment stops being a factor.
