   I’m an amateur floor plan deciple, I work floor plans mostly to give the information to contractors for estimates for myself and friends on remodeling and such. I’d like to take a moment to say that Magicplan is truly the best app I’ve come across in many years. To say it’s easy to figure out and learn is grossly under stating it’s true value and potential. But what makes the program superior to all the others I have tried is the fantastic support provided by their technitions and instructors. In one instance, I incountered a perplexing problem that I couldn’t solve alone and it stopped my work. When I contacted their support, the response was near immediate, the issue was understood and we got right to the point. In particular, there was one specialist that stood out, Silvia, she was not only technically savvy, but an all around amazing communicator! In just a few short responses, she helped figure out where my problem was helped identify the root cause and allowed me to get back up and running again in no time. I’d like to add that in my experience working in the high tech industry, anyone can make a program that may even work, but without a support of feedback loop the app is just a fad. For Magicplan, it is the unmatched support and professional team they have that makes Magicplan untouchable by any other company product. The program design hits many human factors points, and where there are gaps, their fantistic technical staff is there for you. The support program Magicplan has in place will make other programs obsolete before they get off the drawing board. Thank you Magicplan for being and doing what you do.

   I have been testing magicplan and am convinced it will become a great app to use down the road. It’s not there yet as it is still a bit stripped down. For instance the tile options are very limited and I was unable to change the direction. You are not able to edit the tile size. And good luck adding tile or wainscot to the walls. That is not available. Also not able to add simple objects like mirrors and shelves to partition walls, If you think you manage to it doesn’t show in 3d or elevation. You also cannot add bathroom stalls, kind of hard to design a bathroom at all. In elevation edit view not able to see and change distances between objects, only the wall and selected object. I gave up on the scan and entered everything in, maybe the last update improved that, will have to test it again. If I could scan the ceiling it may have worked better. Sharing was difficult because it did not render the plans accurately. Walls in the shared file are all over the place. Again I’ll have to retest since update. If you add a wall it doesn’t let you change the thickness of the wall only the length,, And adding mirrors is a bizarre endeavor. You can only edit small mirrors. If you try to add a big mirror object, say 10 ft long, it becomes about two ft wide poking off the wall like a coffin. Still has a way to go in my eyes but it is very nice to use and layout a room. I’ll keep my eye on the app and keep testing subsequent updates for usability.

   I’m a professional renovator, historical preservationist, and home flipper. I am in the process of integrating MagicPlan into my workflow. I have experimented with it on past projects and it has helped me estimate materials I need by calculating accurately the square footage of areas I need to cover with a finishing product. To say that it is very easy to use would be an understatement. It excels at room scanning in particular. You can be up and running with a basic room scan in under a minute and begin adding objects to your plan from there. A whole house layout can be done in 15 minutes, and again start adding objects from that point. That is work that would take many hours and possibly multiple trips to a home previously. I look forward to continuing to evaluate this product as I move forward with my business. I will be exploring how to build-out the object library and price list database for a truly robust solution for project estimating at all stages. Thank you Magicplan.

4. 2/5Be careful, you only get a few attempts.

   As a first time user, this app should have some preset tutorials. This app is not intuitive. Setting a room and getting to the camera was beyond confusing. Please create forward, back or stop and go buttons to define a room before the device proceeds to the camera. Once I figured out how to set the first corner and maneuver through the perimeter, it was trial and error to sort out my mistakes. A user should stand back a bit and turn at varying angles to ideally set corners and turns. This app takes some getting used to. Naturally I would delete a project and try again from the beginning because I couldn’t figure out how to go back or master reset as a first time user; bad idea. As I deleted each project I was then warned with an error message that I had used up most of my free project slots; quite frustrating. As I eventually figured out how to navigate the apps basics, I unfortunately only had 1 free project slot available left for me to use. This app has a learning curve that just can’t be adjusted to in minutes, more sample project slots or some type of warning you only have a few tries initially would be helpful. I would highly suggest the app offer a free thirty-day trial as opposed to the limited project sampler with no instruction manual or video tutorial. Besides my initial new user concerns, the actual print out of stats, dimensions and accuracy of data points are impressive. I do find that adding objects is quite clunky and takes some getting used to however, if you have patience and 2-3 hours to burn. You can make a beautiful floor plan rendering with great estimated accuracy. 2 stars.

5. 1/5Flagship Functionality Does Not Work

   The auto-scan that they show as their flagship functionality is cloaked as a “beta” feature because it does not work. I am on a brand new iPhone 16 pro, so hardware is not the issue. I was very excited to find this app and it turns out it is garbage. I am a very tech savvy user. My project is a commercial building with various office spaces with 4 apartments on the 2nd floor. I started with the auto-scan function. It seemed to work ok at first, but if I try to scan more than a few rooms in a single session, it would lose it position. I had to scan a room at a time and then reorient them and build the floorplan manually. Once I got it all put together, I verified the measurements and found that some were +/- 6”-8” in some places. I decided to start in 1 corner and use my laser to correct the dimensions. The further I got, the more whacked out the plan got, to the point where some walls are dotted because the whole thing is now broken. Keep in mind, these are actual dimensions I have corrected on the floorplan. Today I decided I would tackle the first suite downstairs. I am following all of the guidelines by scanning one room at a time, no more than 2000sf. I finished the scan and all rooms were green. When I clicked to complete it, it just went back to the 1st floor plan and was blank. All of my work was lost.
