4/5It’s a fun concept
I love that this is the closest thing you have to simulate real conversations with locals minus doing it in real life. This chatbot concept does open the door to build fluency drills without having to feel embarrassed about how to say proper pronunciation. However, I think this type of app only taps into a small portion of what is required to learn a language. You still need to be aware of basic grammar/sentence structure/tenses in order to fully excel in this app, and that requires other software like Rosetta Stone in order to fill in that gap. It would be more attractive if you had the tutor and conversation database updated for more languages. Also, having only kanji available as text for Japanese is going to be a severe learning curve to get over unless you have an option available for English phonetic alphabet pronunciation for those that haven’t studied kanji/don’t have the time for it. All in all, it is a fantastic app, fun to play with for just a few minutes a day, and it makes me more determined to want to learn/speak French more fluently.

3/5This app needs a lot of work…
Let me tell you about my very short experience. I’m trying to become much more fluent in Japanese, and I saw this as a really great tool as I only have few speaking partners and they are all sleeping when I’m awake and want to practice. Enter Jumpspeak. I saw ads for this app and was excited to give it a try. I thought the price was a little steep for essentially an AI practice partner, but if it got me speaking more, I was all for it. Boy was I wrong. The conversational topics seemed forced and limited. Almost as if they didn’t know what else to include in the app to talk about. There were no apparent conversation choices about more relevant topics, making me feel disengaged. Often times the AI would catch itself in what I call a “compliment loop” where you both are saying the same thing over and over add infinitum. Other times, I get the SQL database information (that I shouldn’t get) and in a JAPANESE accent but in ENGLISH the bot reads the DB info. This happened to me 3 times, and each time broke the flow and immersion of the experience. This was enough for me to request a refund. While this app does have massive potential, it’s isn’t there yet. For it to be in release and still have major bugs appear so frequently, but charge so much and for support to be so shallow is unacceptable for me. If things improve, I could potentially be back, but for now, this was a massive waste of my time, research, money, and energy. Unfortunate.

1/5AVOID AT ALL COSTS!Misleading trial experience
Update: after multiple emails to support before my trial ended, the trial expired and Jumpspeak charged my account. After writing their customer service yet again, they refunded me after several days, first with an attempt to upsell me to another trial (ugh), which I then had to confirm cancellation yet again. Then I got an email purportedly from the founder with another upsell offer 🙈🙄. While I am glad they did refund me, I can’t see myself ever signing up for a headache like this again. Too bad, because the idea for the app is a good one, but the manipulative tactics are a total dealbreaker for this client relationship. Original review: Tried the app during a “free trial” and found it so buggy as to be unusable. However, they required me to send an email to customer service to cancel the subscription. I filed two requests before the end of the trial and got no response. Now the trial has renewed for $$$ and SUDDENLY, the ability to cancel my subscription has unlocked. Special caveat though—it will cancel October 3rd of 2026–meaning, they intend to keep the money they fraudulently charged me while pretending to be addressing the cancelation. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB for this. This seems like a desperate attempt to steal revenue from customers rather than building a truly functional experience that is worth paying for. Shame on you, Jumpspeak.

3/5Improving. Role play is impossible for me to use as a new person… I do not have enough knowledge t
…. To answer the questions in roleplay I am being asked to make sentences using the last sentences when you have told nothing about what it means…. This roleplay section should be introduced several months after the opening… it should start VERY slowly to allow us to learn some sentences and then slowly use new set over several months… to me it is a painful section that takes many days to even get any kind of score….. please take this off active play and gradually introduce it to us very slowly…. Thanks for the consideration….. All work needs better help so we do not keep doing things over,,,, not clear what is the next new lesson… instead keep getting reshuffled back in lessons that I may have already done several times… need to have a clear path for us to follow… often time the lesson will not show a path for new things… instead I have to replay work that I may have done several times…. Please make the icons clear what they stand for and what is the path forward … please help you have a good product which can be superb if you show me the path to new thing to do… thank you

1/5Sales funnels are gross.
I just paid $200 for an app that functions waaay too slowly on my phone to justify the purchase(13 pro I stopped upgrading when I realized how problematic sourcing materials for the phone is, but the ecosystem got me in a chokehold). Once I committed to purchasing the initial application I was put through a sales funnel which uses FOMO to try to pressure the buyer into further purchases. This feels scummy after the energy and time invested in getting us to pitch ourselves the *wonderful new life* jumpspeak will offer us the chance to experience with the survey. The unlimited AI tutoring that I was pitched is not a feature of premium, it’s a feature of AI premium. They were likely hoping that the hundreds of dollars on monthly tutoring, and various upsells would make it feel less like the offer is too good to be true and with all the added support we’d be too satisfied with the progress to be bothered by the tactics. This was incorrect. If the application offered those upsells in app after progress was made, it would be fine. AFTER I see and experience your product. Not before. Now I have a slow, unoptimized disappointment because you over promised and failed the upsell, which is lucky cause this woulda p***ed me off further if I had a subscription to cancel.
