  1. 4/5Customizable, Free App w/o Extreme Ad Disruption

This is a pretty good app for what I need it to do and for it to cost nothing. I’m satisfied. Update: If you want a timer app you can use without paying for, I highly recommend Interval Timer - Tabatha Timer. It’s customizable. It does have ads, but they scroll through them at the bottom of the screen while the timer is running and doesn’t interrupt your workout at all. It even runs while the app is minimized, so you can still listen for the sounds of when each interval ends, so highly useful. You can even control your music from the app. :) It does not interrupt my music playing in the background on my iOS device. The one criticism that I’ve run across is that the app has become more glitchy as of late. I had to remove the app and add it back to my device b/c it would freeze up once I opened it. Unfortunately, doing this wiped all my saved interval timers, so I’ll have to recreate them - boo! But not a huge deal b/c they’re relatively easy to recreate. Also, after reinstalling it, I noticed that the timer occasionally freezes up or get stuck even though the timer isn’t paused, e.g., sits on 4sec left in an interval for more than 4sec. :/ I haven’t seen this happen too much yet, I only reinstalled it a week ago, but will be something I keep an eye out for, and may cause me to update my review further by dropping more stars - a timer that can’t keep time is a deal breaker.

  2. 1/5Good but WTH

Honestly, this is the best interval timer app on the App Store. But this one small this changes it all. I purchased the 1 year subscription to be able to use the timer with my Apple Watch. And I am able to do so, BUT ITS THERE IS NOT COMPLICATION THAT I CAN ADD TO MY WATCH-FACE. Seriously? This HAS to be an option. The most useless Apple Watch apps offer this option. But this MOST IMPORTANT app doesn’t. C’mon guys get this fixed asap so I can give you the 5 stars you deserve. Edit: Another issue was discovered 😑 I was trying to use the Apple Watch app for my workout today, BUT THE BELL WAS NOT GOING OFF through my AirPod pros between work/rest. The BELL is also one of the reasons why I purchased the premium. I paid the premium price for auditory notification. Using the app on the phone, it works fine, I get the bell sound through my AirPods. This is NOT a workaround though and it doesn’t fix the issue, because doing this does NOT record and collect workout data such as bpm, calories and what not. It doesn’t recode anything other than the fact that you ran the counter. If this issue isn’t fixed I would like a refund. The Apple Watch app is literally useless if you can’t get the bell chime sound through your AirPods and workout data, and the iPhone app is useful as it is without a premium subscription. Making me feel that I spent money for no reason. Having to pay for a simple timer on a yearly subscription is already complete and utter non sense. A one time payment would be more suitable. But again, I’m willing to pay yearly, BUT not with how the app is working right now.

  3. 5/5Great for all sorts of interval training

I originally got this to use for timing Fartlek runs and speed intervals. The cycles are easy to customize and provide great feedback through sound and vibration. But then I started doing interval training at home (circuit, HIIT, and technique drills). Now I could add in visual keys and create complex hour long workouts and practices. Colors, sounds, titles, intervals, rests, cycles, repeats, all are customizable on the free app. If I could add one feature, it would be either a three period cycle or a cycle start warning, so that I can do high/low/get ready or left/right/rest. If I could make one change, it would be the ability to make a one time premium purchase instead of a subscription. I would like to put some money towards the app, perhaps for new templates (like the suggestion above) or for sharing, but I am wary of subscription services over one time purchases. That said, I now use the premium service and is has even more flexibility, to the point that I use it over even physical timers at the gym.

  4. 4/5Great, but…

I first started using this app back in 2017 or so, then stopped doing interval training until 2024. I found the app on my watch and was happy because I remembered that it worked great. I us this app on my watch at the gym and I leave my iPhone at home. I’m only giving it four stars because the interval sounds, when I’m listening to music or a podcast on the watch AND using the interval timer (seems like a normal thing to do), the interval sounds to not play over the music/podcast. I don’t know why. This prety much defeats the purpose of the timer. I’m sure if I was using my iPhone, it would work great because I could visually see the intervals. If there’s anything you can do to get the interval sound to play over the music/podcasts on the apple watch, I’d happily start up my subscription again and give the app 5/5 stars instead of 4/5 stars. Thank you!

  5. 3/5Good App with Intrusive Video Ads and Deceptive Seller

The app has annoying video ads as of late, but is otherwise very good. I've been using the app for years to time and track my daily physical activity routines. However, every now and again the seller decides it's time to try and milk it a bit more, and pushes out an update that adds more aggressive ads, and it's never in the update description, of course. For instance, the December 2019 (version 4.2.1) update added video adds at the end of every routine, but the update description was "We are happy to introduce a new in-app purchase to let you remove the Ads. Removing the Ads is just an option for those users hope to remove it and not mandatory. It doesn't change the way you used Interval Timer before. Just grab what you need. This new version is worth you update because we also fixed some bugs to make it more stable." It is possible to circumvent the video ads by turning off cellular data for the app and disconnecting from WiFi, but it's far from ideal.
