  1. 5/5One of the best

I actually heard about this app from a review left on a separate app I had tried and deleted because most, if not 90% of the features were pay to use. I’ve tried a lot of mental health apps over the years but usually give up on a lot of them because of how many in app purchases they try shoving down your throat, all with the hefty promise of “curing your depression”… This is the real deal though. No. It may not CURE your depression, but as someone who has found journaling to be one of the best ways to manage my mental health over the years, How We Feel has made navigating my everyday thoughts and emotions so much easier. Especially because sometimes I don’t understand what emotion I’m feeling until I look over their large wall of emotions and can get incredibly specific on just what my brain is experiencing. I also tried listening and watching and participating in several of the activities that come free with the app and some of them just amazed me with the uniqueness. For example- “creating a negative story” and then watching it burn and letting it go. Or choosing a few photos that I like looking at and captioning them to create what’s essentially an easily accessible slideshow of my favorite life moments. I enjoyed those two in particular. I’d love to see even more activities in the future as well but even as the app stands now, I can confidently say anyone searching for a mental health journaling app or just mental health tracking app in general should give it a try.

  2. 4/5love the app! don’t love the AI…

my therapist recommended my girlfriend and i try using this app to improve our communication, and it’s done wonders! it’s expanded my vocabulary when it comes to describing my emotions, and made it much easier to communicate to her and to others how i’m feeling. it’s been a great tool for me in my mental health journey. i was disappointed to see the addition of AI to an app i use to journal my emotions and inner thoughts. i don’t like the idea that my private thoughts might be used to train the AI, and it feels unnecessary in an app like this. i understand the intention is to help people gain insight into why they’re feeling a certain way, however it feels like users are expected to take mental health advice from or confide in a robot with no mental health training. it feels impersonal to me, and saddened me to see this feature on an app i use daily. i would have loved to see these resources used to add other useful features; more to the incredibly helpful “tools” section of the app, an option to enter custom emotions with descriptions, or a quiz of some kind that can be taken to help identify the correct emotion word one can attribute to any given moment, to name a few. the AI might be great for some, but personally, it caused me to lose faith in the app and made me sad when i feel like there could be more helpful features added with the resources used to add an unnecessary AI.

  3. 3/5This app is ALMOST there!

This -desperately- needs graphs. The data how it is, that’s fine, keep it, but bring in an option to use graphs and slightly more significant data analysis. It’s easy to do just correlations and stuff. I know you want to make the app user friendly, and not add something too complicated, but please add an option for those of us who want to double or triple the usefulness of this app for ourselves. Further, the AI reflection thing is huge, that’s a game changer! Fantastic feature. Now, what you need is a further feature that will analyze trends in your chats with the AI, trying to draw out possible connections that aren’t obvious unless an overview was taken of the conversations. And for this, add an “easy” version for folks who don’t care to get into the weeds about, and a more sophisticated analysis, maybe so certain words correlate with one another. For instance, allergies acting up and depression or anything like that to discover occurrences happening simultaneously that we might not automatically pick up on. This would be MUCH better than every time having to manually add tags, people skip those because they don’t have the time or possibly energy. The possibilities to help people learn about themselves a whole lot more through a little extra sophistication are endless here. I’ll definitely change to 5 stars if see this stuff come in, not that one rating will change much. But for what it’s worth.

  4. 5/5Hands down Best App

I don’t think I’ve ever left a review before. Im so pleased with this app that I felt compelled to share. This app has been the only mood/wellbeing app that I have found to be not only helpful in the moment but useful when I want to reflect on changes I’ve made (or want to make) in my life. The app reminds me (unobtrusively -nothing like that multilingual owl) to check in a few times a day. I can complete it by checking off a couple of boxes or I can choose to be more introspective by adding more information like a short journal entry. It depends on what I have time for. Within the check-in there is also an option to select how you’re feeling physically. I get migraines & it’s helpful to be able to look back & see the correlation between my mood & my physical well being. The app also offers a variety of research based activities/actions to take to help your mood. These are things like a short meditation, breathing, visualization & lots of others that I’m not remembering right now. I often find these sorts of things to be a waste of time but these are short, simple & useful. I feel like the more choices there are the harder it gets to find quality content. This app is quality content & I highly recommend it!

  5. 5/5My favorite and the best free app. (If you want to understand yourself, start here)

I started a journey of self awareness, self love, and self esteem about a year ago. If you don’t know where to start, this is 100% the place to practice all of that. It’s so low effort and keeping with it consistently (even just once a day) for a month and it absolutely changed my view of myself in such an overwhelmingly positive way. I notice my overall approach to life and intentionality in my day to day interactions have changed. I can tell other people have noticed too. I feel like I’ve found myself. I always thought of feelings and emotions and black and white, good and bad, but now I see my feelings objectively and process it in the healthiest and most loving way. I feel freer and lighter and calmer. The design is amazing from the visual effects to the meditative exercises to the customizable experience. I truly appreciate the overall thoughtfulness and awareness the creators have for everyone’s unique needs and their individual journeys toward their growth in mental and emotional health. I get excited when I open the app because I seem to notice new things each time. I’ve learned so much about myself in the past couple of years, by staying consistent and checking in with all the data collected from all possible angles—weather, time of day, exercise minutes, etc—and it’s incredible that this app is completely free. I would recommended this to family and friends. You can control how much information you share keep tabs on each other through real-time posts of feelings. It’s very simple and low effort and real connection. I love it.
