1. 2/5A lot to fix still

   Reading material here is horrible, specially in the iPad where text go from margin to margin almost without any bleed (landscape mode is atrocious). Headings in readings are bad as well. On my iPhone looks better, probably because they only thought people will study in their phones or PCs. I study mostly in my iPad since I write on a notebook while studying and having the screen divided and watching a Coursera video is the worst, in portrait mode the subtitles are in the bottom while the video remains in the middle of the window, landscape is better for this. When using toggled (video hovers on top of your workspace) you don’t need subtitles so there isn’t any. Same with screen mirroring to the TV, need subtitles? Too bad. There’s also components that are only available in PC so there’s always a halt on your flow if you’re studying anywhere but in the computer. Texts are great to read in the computer so I know they can do better… the problem is my computer is zero comfortable to read or have with me on the go… Material is great, courses are great… Is the UX/UI that is lacking, probably because none of the developers actually studies in different devices and/or they don’t count with UX/UI designer. P.S. The new podcast/audio only for videos thing is a nice added feature. Improving little, improving dreadfully slow, but improving I guess…

2. 1/5BEWARE!!! Coursera STEALS! & You can not talk to an actual person for customer service

   I have been trying to cancel my Coursera subscription for the past six months as I do not use it that often. Each time I try to contact the help center on their website or app I am directed to a chat bot who never can adequately answer my questions or point me in the direction of who I can speak with that can help or give me any resources as to how I can solve my issue….. I have continuously been charged $49 a month even though on the app, it lists my subscription as inactive. And though they are taking money out of my account, which I have proof of , There is no accompanying receipt or documentation of the charges in my profile under payments. Also when I try to access my content which i should have access to because i am being charged for it, I am unable to use any of the courses… I have had to cancel my card. But the bigger issue is I have no way to request a refund for the charges for a service I have not been able to use…I am very disheartened by this service as on the surface it seems to be a great way to educate those who would usually not have access. But the way they steal and treat their customers has made them loose a one….. please beware, and don’t end up like me, missing $300+ with nothing to show for it.

3. 5/5Convenient, Easy, and Educational

   I completed a course on Coursera’s website on my ipad and found it difficult to start a second course on my phone due to screen formatting not being optimised for my device. When I found out they had an app, I decided to give it a try to see if it was any better. Now, I’ll never go back! The app makes learning much easier. The courses are laid out in a way which makes a lot of sense to me, and I love that it’s easy to work through each module hands-free (the next video autoplays once one ends) or jump back in when I’ve been away (the next thing to do is highlighted at the top of the page each time, but you’re also able to skip items and complete them in your own schedule). I wish there were more courses in my fields of interest, though this isn’t at Coursera’s fault and there are still a few for me to work through. I do, however, find the app is lacking a ‘wishlist’ function. It would be very helpful for me to be able to keep a list of courses I’m interested in within the app itself. Other than that, I have no complaints with this app so far!

4. 2/5No auto play makes app almost unusable

   This app is in desperate need of a “hands free” mode of some sort. Lessons are cut up into tiny individual vids that can be as short as only 3 minutes, often with “assignment” or quiz pages in between, and as you go through a course you have to manually click through to the next thing again and again and again. It’s infuriating, especially when you have a bunch of short segments one after another, forcing you to click through every few minutes. One of the main reasons I use my phone instead of a computer to listen to lectures is so that I can move around doing other things. I like to listen to music or podcasts while doing chores, exercising, driving, things like that, and would love to be able to do the same with Coursera: just hit play and let knowledge stream into my ear. I can go back to see any visual components I might have missed or do assignments later; on my phone, I'm more likely to be on the go, and apps need to be able to reflect that. The way most courses are structured means you can’t just stick an hour lecture on and go jogging: no, you have to stop every few minutes to poke your phone for the next section. To be clear, this is not a review of Coursera, which has worked hard to bring a bunch of great courses to the public. But I’ve been deeply frustrated with the app and can only pray it eventually gets a proper modern tune up.

5. 2/5Apple Store Subscription Not Being Acknowledged

   Coursera is generally a great platform and app. I’ve used it on and off for a few years. They are getting two starts because of bad billing practices. Recently, as of May 2022, Coursera stopped recognizing my monthly subscription through the App Store and has stopped allowing me to make submissions on my course assignments and section tests. It’s stopped my ability to complete courses all together as a result. When I contacted Coursera, they said this is a software bug for ALL APPLE CUSTOMERS that their developers are trying to resolve. They then closed my help ticket and didn’t provide any resolution. I contacted them again two weeks later, and this time their customer service rep said to CANCEL MY APPLE SUBSCRIPTION, TO REQUEST A REFUND THROUGH APPLE, AND TO ENROLL THROUGH THEIR MONTHLY BILLING SYSTEM. Because I don’t want to lose my progress on this professional certification, I did exactly that. Cancelled my Apple subscription and enrolled in Coursera’s subscription. It makes me want to cancel my subscription with Coursera all together, though. This is highly suspect given the controversy of the Apple Stores 30% cut on all transactions processed through their store and developers pushing back on it. It comes off as Coursera intentionally breaking Apple users access to force their hand to enroll in Coursera’s billing system to recoup the 30% loss in revenue from the Apple store.

   I love Coursera but the app logs me out constantly, while the website never does this. If I click on a course, next, while taking a test, or even while watching a video, it randomly logs me out and I can't find an option to stay logged in. It's not just timing out from inactivity either!

   no, no , no, no.... I used to use the app for personal growth - Mindfulness course by Rice University, now there is no audit option, only subscription model, so I have no reason to be on the app. 😐 Even the free trial isn't free. also, reading others experience I'm glad I didn't subscribe :)

   the app does not keep track of progress the same way as the website. lot of poor user experiences in understanding where you are at in a course and the features are very much not aligned to the account on the desktop
