1. 5/5Can Change Your Paper-Hoarding Lifestyle, and MORE!

   As a lifelong paper hoarder and educator, Camscanner has pretty much saved me from drowning in binders and file folders. I have the paid version, and it’s easily one of the most useful subscriptions I’ve invested in. I’ve used it to digitize years’ worth of AP conference notebooks and materials, which are now neatly organized and available to my campus teachers in digital format. Instead of digging through boxes or tracking down a binder, I can just scan, upload, and share a link. My colleagues can freely and easily access everything they need from anywhere. My favorite feature is the ability to pull text out of handwritten notes. I take a quick scan, let Camscanner work its magic, and suddenly my scribbles become searchable, editable text I can drop into emails, docs, or slides. For someone who still loves writing by hand but wants the convenience of digital, that’s huge. Camscanner has turned piles of paper into a clean, searchable digital library. If you’re someone who lives in notebooks, prints everything, or wants a simple way to share materials with others, the paid account is absolutely worth it.

2. 1/5I ’ve been a paying customer for about 15 years, but I’m now planning to leave

   I’ve been a paying customer for about 15 years, but I’m now planning to leave due to several serious issues I’ve experienced recently: 1. Scans became corrupted. Some older scans now have damaged/corrupted pages. Support advised me to re-scan them, but many are from around 10 years ago, and I no longer have the original documents. That is not a workable solution. 2. Unreliable Dropbox auto-upload. The Dropbox auto-upload feature syncs only some files, while others never upload. Support’s suggestion was to upload the missing files manually, which defeats the purpose of having an automatic backup. 3. Security concern: unauthenticated access via direct links. It appears that if someone obtains a direct URL, they can access the file list and file contents without authentication. Even if the links are hard to guess and you need developer tools to get them, a leaked link should not provide unrestricted access. Support did not address this issue at all. Given the data integrity problems, unreliable syncing, and the lack of meaningful support, I’m moving my subscription to another scanning and backup service.

3. 3/5Worked great until Pervasive ADs. I vibe coded my own app and abandoned CamScanner

   So, I have used the app for 4 years. Worked great. Recently, they started blasting pervasive ads of stuff I wouldn’t even buy. Betting ads, the weird game with the Burger King guy being chased by a green snake. And you can’t skip the ad. The x button only opens up another ad, or another game. So they are using fake buttons to flow and force other apps to open. It’s so bad I have vibe coded my own app and running it from a browser. Does what I need. Take a picture, turn to pdf. Why would you charge all that money to convert an image with technology already built into most phones. Nothing new invented. The app is fine if you want to pay 45 dollars a year. Or ask ChatGPT to make you a web based app that can take a photos and concert to an image… for Pennie’s. If they put an ad or limit some “pro features” to the paid version, ok. I see how that would make sense. But it’s all or nothing and sit there for 75 seconds and watch these irrelevant ads.

4. 1/5Do not get this app. It’s a scam

   I purchased this app. They took 53 dollars for the year subscription and I didn’t receive it. I tried contacting the company several times no response. The app has a water mark on it and the only way to get rid of the water Mark was allegedly purchase the subscription. First of all they get you with its 2.99 a month, so you click on it only to discover they remove 53 dollars all at once. Ok fine, not what I thought I was signing up for but at least I’ll have the subscription paid for the year and use it. Nope. The subscription never activated and each time I use it it says I haven’t paid for the subscription. I click on the activate subscription and it takes you back to the menu to purchase it. I’ve contacted apple iTunes who has said oh it’s an issue the developer has to correct but if they don’t contact us. The developer refuses to return my emails or fix the problem. Now apple iTunes is pushing the issue off not wanting to remedy the situation. Apple iTunes I thought this company was represented through your app. Will never trust apple iTunes again and I would definitely make sure you don’t purchase this app.

5. 3/5Disappointing! Current version is super hard to unify the PDF page size!

   I used to love CamScanner and it helped me a lot during my undergrad study. At that time it was free and handy. I haven't been using it for a while and today I needed to scan some paperwork into PDF so I opened it. I knew that in current CS PDF files will be watermarked in the free version (I'm totally fine with that and I'd like to support good apps) so this time I didn't think much and directly paid for the premium version. However, things went weird when I preview the PDF file after scanning all the paper: In the old CS, I never changed any setting for PDF size: all the paper I scanned will be converted into the same A4 size and will fill the page automatically. But now, pages don't auto-fill anymore, the system identifies these A4 paper I scanned as different sizes and then put them in the A4 canvas, so there are awkward white blank spaces around them. I tried to change the PDF page size to Auto Fit. This time the white spaces are gone, but all pages have different widths. In the end, in order to unify the PDF page size, I have to switch back to A4 page size and change the filter to Magiccolor (I preferred grayscale because it was clearer) so the white spaces around the paper are not obvious. I don't know if it was just me failed to figure out the right way to do this, but anyway, all I'm trying to say is: this experience was horrible and frustrating. As a user, I just want to easily make a normal standard PDF file that all pages are same-sized and have no awkward blank space around them. As an ordinary person, I can't shoot every picture at the same distance and angel! There is no way for me to control the size of the page I scanned so please do the job for me!
