  1. 5/5The app is horrendous

The app never reflects the amount of items in the cart. It will show a number indicating a number of items in the cart but then it will give an error saying empty. Items will state they are available and then you can’t add it to the cart. The app errors out often and lose all my cart items. It continually crashes while trying to place an order, takes the rewards and uses gift cards without actually placing the order. You have to contact customer service to undo all the issues. At least customer service is very helpful and friendly, right?

  2. 2/5No Notifications of Delivery to Store or via App

Much like a Hellmouth, black hole or an oubliette the Hot Topic and Box Lunch apps are stuck in a demonic limbo of uncertainty when it comes to the track of your orders. I have expressed my concerns with both never showing my items are shipped to customer service and it is really not a big deal to any or them as they know there is an issue. Sad part is now I have to call the stores or customer service to check on my purchases as if these companies are my child. Just found out my item is at the Lunch Box store AGAIN and never received a call or email. I first had my issues with this app during Black Friday in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 (a reoccurring pattern). I order an entire was lost and magically found, which was stressing, since they were Christmas gifts. Needless to say the tracking is horrible and I have to deal with it every time I ship to the store, there is noway to track, nor do they give you the ability to track your items. I was informed my item has been at the store since May 14, 2019 and I found out because I was sent a survey about how I liked my item, that was on May 30, 2019. Today is February 29, 2020 and I am still getting the same old song and dance. The developer and company for BoxLunch and Hot Topic need to get on the ball a fix this issue on both apps before they lose a customer. Oh and I know I will get the same response here from customer serve/the app developers to, “contact us so we can resolve this”. I think four years of my input is long enough and you still haven’t fixed the issues. On a positive note, they can take my credit card payment quicker than a New York minute, so your payment transactions are working perfectly.

  3. 1/5Almost worthless

This app is great for taking your money and pretty much nothing else. It’s a fun way to window shop I guess, since it is way easier and faster to load than Boxlunch’s mobile website. But if there’s items you want, good luck finding them in stock. As an online store, BoxLunch itself leaves MUCH to be desired. Has links for exclusive products up and pretends you can still buy them even though they’re out of stock. (Can’t ship to your address, or pickup in store. If I can’t receive the product what exactly am I paying you for?!) Also appears to be inventory mismanagement across the website and stores, as I found a pin that has been out of stock on the website for weeks at a local store just yesterday. App claims I have reward coupons, but just tries to automatically apply them to my cart it doesn’t tell me what they’re for or when they expire. Oh, and if you try to reach out to BoxLunch directly through their email support, there’s a severe character limit so you can’t even explain the problem completely, and if you’re in this app it will say “can’t submit, blank captcha.” You didn’t give me a captcha in the first place, and this is YOUR app, blockheads. Try a little harder.

  4. 1/5App is terrible

BoxLunch technology is very poor and they struggle to combine various shopping channels to create a positive online shopping experience for their best clients. Whether shopping thru the the app, online store, or in a physical store they cannot correctly combine your accounts and credit your shipping and/or reward points. The system doesn’t credit points always correctly, and when you call, sometimes they know how to fix it and other reps have no idea. The system may check you out as a guest even though you are a five star member. You then have to wait an hour after placing and order before you call customer service to fix the shipping cost. When you finally can call you’ll be waiting as they call all their teams and team members to ask “are we supposed to fix this?” Once you get your points you then have to explain you are five Star and t should be 1.25 points and get ready to wait and escalate. You’ll have wait even more when you ask for a supervisor to fix it...so it it worth a stressful experience for every order placed? And then spend an extra 30 minutes per order to save a little money while feeling this is this biggest waste of time, emotion, and drama per order? You decide.

  5. 2/5Great store, but terrible online options

While I love visiting these stores at malls, their app and site leave a lot to be desired. Being reminded multiple times by the notifications, they wanted me to spend my box money before it expired. I thought “great, there’s plenty of amazing items they have to offer”. However in navigating the app, I came to find that there are multiple problems. You can’t use your box lunch money to save on some of the nicer quality anime figures, most of their items are sold out 24/7 online or don’t ship, and lastly the other majority has you pick up items in store. With these stores being located in malls, this is a lot to ask. It’s a long drive from where I am and out of the way with work on the weekdays. I imagine many are in similar situations. So this led me to ask, what’s the point of box money, if I can’t even use it on most of the offerings this store has? It makes me discouraged if anything, to spend more money in the store, when I know the money I get back is basically useless.
