4/5Every morning for years, now uninstalling
First, I’m a programmer, and certainly realize a company needs a revenue stream. For several years, I started my day with the scripture of the day on the first screen. The latest update gets me invested in the first 4-5 words, then covers the screen in an ad which must be endured for an indeterminate amount of time. - Having a clear “Ad Free” buyout would be a good option, as the banner in the middle (which is actual an upgrade to paid) is not obvious. - Basically, a “Could you pay $30-40 one time to help us keep the lights on?” I would do today. But I don’t use the app enough to warrant another subscription, and the reviews for the paid version aren’t great. - I realize Christian folks (in US anyway) can be cheap and demanding. I make effort not to be either. That said, at 4:30am, a scripture is a good way to start the day. A Jack-in-the-box pop up ad I must endure to get to that scripture? I’ll turn on a light a read my Bible, or use a different app. Thank you much, for all the years. If I find you have a perpetual license option then great, if not, this will be deleted.

5/5Going out on a limb here with hope this is once again 5 stars!
HOORAY! It is now July 2024, and Bible Gateway has at last restored all my notes, favorites and highlights, AND it isn’t crashing, and I can look for passages in two versions at once! Thank God. I have been praying for y’all and have missed using Bible Gateway. I can now cheerfully give it five stars again! My last two reviews are below. Last one: You can see my previous review below this one. I have waited a few months, and have been using the website some, but I MISS this formerly wonderful app! I see there is a new version, so I am downloading it again today, and praying it is once again worthy of five stars! If it is, I will renew my “Plus” membership next year. When it’s working properly, it is my favorite online Bible. Pray with me for Bible Gateway!! Former review: I have been VERY patient with the paid version of this app, $40 a year! And for the past year, it CONSTANTLY shuts down on me, and now won’t even take me to the Bible! I used to love this app and recommended it to everyone. I’ll try using the web version for a bit, but I cancelled my subscription today. My $40 has been a complete waste this past year…I can’t even look up scriptures, much less access the study tools I’m paying for. I’ve been hopeful after each bug “fix” update, but nothing changes…if anything, it has deteriorated. I’m so sorry.

1/5Used for years and loved….no more!!
Bible Gateway app has been my favorite over the popular You Version for years. I have been trying to bear with it for the last many months, but just deleted today because I’m wanting and needing to study and do my daily scripture writing but can’t. It opens….and this is pretty much a common regular and multiple back to back occurrence even in one sitting, over the last several months…it opens as normal with the verse of the day, then in seconds an ad pops up, which is expected because I use the free version of the app….however, once I view the ad, and I choose to close it rather than get it or purchase, the ad will close and go back to the verse of the day screen. From there I go to search for the book, chapter and verse I want to read and study, and select it, but instead of pulling it up, the app closes. Some days I have more patience to keep trying and eventually it will stop closing in the described manner, and I actually get to read in the location I selected in the app. But today…I’m done!! After it has closed on me a number of times and I’ve still not gotten to do my daily reading and journal writing of the passage that I was trying to select, my time and my patience with the app has run out. I’ve deleted and going to find another. This one needs some fixes or if that’s their means they use to get you to want to purchase the ad free version of the app….forget it! Don’t want it!!!

2/5Once a happy patron, now very disappointed
I had been really enjoying using the Biblegateway app up until last month (August 2022) or so. For years I used it almost daily. The ease of scrolling and finding text, of making notes, sharing them and the wide selection of Bible versions made this my go-to app. To be sure, I had problems with it in the last year. For some reason, they just couldn’t figure out an issue I was having with some kind of “private relay” regarding my email. That was frustrating. But it was no comparison to the problems I’ve experienced with it since August. I was using it and suddenly during my reading a video add popped up. Yup, they recently added commercials. Even more sadly, I hate to admit that it was a triggering ad. (They sent a form email in response to my inquiry about that.) To make matters worse, the app has been non-functional since around that time, when they “updated it.” I can barely get to most books of the Bible. And when I do searches, the app closes out completely. And there are changes to the font that make the text hard to read. Their answer? “Our development team [is working] through some issues pertaining to the iOS app. While a new update was released today, additional updates are also forthcoming. We're currently running Version 67, so updating your version of the app may resolve this issue for you.” Unfortunately, this v. 67. So, I can no longer use this app and my patience for their errors has run thin. It’s a difficult decision since it has years of my notes in it. I’m very disappointed in this app and am looking for another. I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this.

1/5Latest Update Ruined This App
I have used this app quite enthusiastically for years. Not only was it my favorite Bible app, I rarely used another Bible app, because this one had such great features, and did everything I needed. With the latest update occurring a couple of months ago, this app is now totally useless to me. It now has several bugs it never had before (iPhone 12). The most frustrating bug is that it crashes every single time I open it. Not five, or six, or eight out of 10 times, but 10 out of 10 times. And most of the time, it crashes within 30 seconds of opening it. When it does stay on longer than that, other things happened, that never did before. It deleted several scriptures in my “Favorites” list, although they are still highlighted in the body of text itself. Often it will not go to a scripture that I select. It crashes almost every time I try to select something new from any menu. The “Search” feature is now horribly broken; when I type in anything in the search field, there is no way to close the keyboard and push a button to actually activate the search. The app has become literally useless! I never write reviews. At least this one is the first in several years. The only reason I’m doing so, is because I used to love this app. I hate having to give it up, but I have no choice! Please fix it!
