1. 4/5Love the frame, despise the app

   I used to think the app was so easy and then some update happened and now it infuriates me. I always edit my photos in LR and then I export them to my photos. Not sure if it was the new Apple update but now in the aura app, those recently edited photos no longer show up at the end of my album but instead mixed into the unedited photos so instead of selecting the most recent 30 edits.. I have to scroll through 100s of photos and decipher which ones are edited. On top of that, when I’m trying to add from the aura app and import the photos from the Lightroom folder, it automatically starts in my collection from like 4 years ago and every single time I have to scroll through like 4 years of photos just to get to my latest. Once again, it used to not be this way. I have no idea if it’s just aura not being super compatible with the latest Apple update but it is MADDENING. Like.. to the point that I barely add photos to the 4 frames that we have purchased for ourselves and family members… and I used to add almost daily. Pleeeeeeaaasee I’m begging you to fix this because I’m obsessed with the frame… but HATE the process of adding photos now.

2. 1/5Don’t bother w/ Aura - Stick w/ existing social media apps

   Aura frame has significant set up/connection issues. App says ‘set up error’, while the frame says ‘connected’. Then, after ‘factory reset’ it was still connected to my home WiFi?? Wry concerning. Never got it ‘connected for someone else’. (should only have one set up option, absolutely no need for multiple set up options). Tried again to set it up ‘for myself’ (even tho it’s supposed to be a gift) and I guess it worked as photos did appear but I was unimpressed. First, Aura attempts a serious privacy issue by uploading ALL of your photos on your phone to their cloud - this is absolutely unnecessary and concerning when combined with the factory reset not actually resetting. Then, once loaded ‘selected’ photos to the frame, those photos just shuffle through. There is no way to see or highlight the newest pictures sent to the frame?? Not even in the chronological mode. Aura advertises ‘unlimited cloud space’ for photos to frame. So if the newest photos are not easily accessible or highlighted in any manner… and there is a preset 10 min timeframe between photos (yes, preset can be changed but someone at Aura thought 10 min was a good preset time??)… even so, can you imagine how long it will take to ‘happen upon’ a new photo(s) sent to the frame?? Or just sit there for DAYS waiting to see if a new photo showed up. 👎🏼 $150+ for an Aura frame is a waste of $$ when existing social media apps have the ability to share new photos in a controlled and expected manner… at no charge!

   I just got my first Aura frame. I’m happy with the product but wish I could have gotten one of the smaller frames with wall mount option. And I wish I could have gotten the larger frames without the mat. Anyway, as for the app, there are two big annoyances. First off, choosing from my iPhone photo library, the album order is completely random. It does not match the order in Photos. 99% of apps do this the right way. Aura is in the 1% that does it wrong because they are using a custom photo picker. This is super annoying. It took me 4 tries to find the album I wanted — the album is the first album in Photos, but was in completely random place about 3/4 down. There are also no sort abilities at all, so I couldn’t sort by name. This needs to be fixed. The other problem is they only provide two options for how to display photos, shuffle or chronological. There is no option for a manual sort order. This is a huge oversight. What’s the point of being able to do a slideshow when you can’t even put them in the order you want them presented?

4. 3/5Need more customization options

   In the app, it says on shuffle mode the newest photos will be shown first and I have not found this to be true. The new photos don’t show at all until the frame is restarted. Also, in shuffle mode it should not repeat any photos until all have been shown once. We have seen the same photos multiple times over several days never see some other photos. For the captions, I wish there were options to customize the font size, type, position, and color similar to the SnapChat options, for example. The standard font is so small and on some pictures I would like to caption the place like, “Turner Falls, Oklahoma” but center it in the middle and make it bold and in nice script. Part of the reason I got this frame is so my kids can see all the pictures I’ve taken since they were little. They want to know what the picture is and I want a caption that looks nice. There should also be an option to automatically caption each photo with the date or year. I have manually added at least the year to every photo so I don’t have to answer, “When was that?” for every picture. Just some simple upgrades to the app and this could phenomenal!

5. 4/5Where are all my pictures?

   I have three aura frames with thousands of pictures on each but I see the same pictures and many never pop up. Once the slide show starts it should rotate through them all before showing again. I don’t want it set to chronological because I like the randomness of what picture is next instead of a group of pictures from the same event all in a row. But I never see most of the pictures that are on the frame. Another issue when you have multiple people invited to share pictures- sometimes they share the same ones. The app should recognize when there is a picture that is the same or similar and ask whether you want to delete one or not. My father tends to add the same pictures over and over then I have to go through the thousands of pictures to see if it is already there. Finally if the frame is horizontal and you add a vertical picture, the frame sometimes cuts off the tops. It takes too much time to go through and reposition all the pictures to fit the frame.
