  1. 4/5The same longstanding problems

I’ve had Afterlight forever, but it needs improvement. I use the filters less than other things but when I do, I'm reasonably satisfied. I use touch editing constantly because it's a relatively straightforward way to fix isolated too-dark or too-bright areas. I use the gradations in bursts. Dust, textures, and sometimes light leaks work well with images that look good with gradations. Now for the problems: The frames are great, but I don't understand why there isn't a color picker. Text and stickers have the same shortcomings but there’s a bigger problem - there have been NO new stickers since the app was released. Why? The UI is better than most and I’m a fan of the tasteful flowers, butterflies, and other nature-based images but I'd like to see some new ones. I’m glad you added background textures but the options are limited. I just noticed that there’s a double exposure feature now but I've only tried it once with simple photos. I wasn't crazy about not being able to adjust the second photo once I'd dropped it on the first. I used to use Afterlight to add text and annotations but have been using Markup instead. Sure, it's limited but it works well for basic fonts. When I wanted a bit more font choice I remembered the 2 areas that need improvement. One is the lack of color picker and the other is the strange way to adjust font size. It was manageable when I used it regularly but I was frustrated with it since I’ve been using Markup which is uncomplicated. I eventually gave up on the text placement after too much frustration.

  2. 1/5SCAM

I was an Afterlight user for many many years and just wasn’t loving the new app like the previous one. Not happy either that they sent an in app message to basically make us delete the old app and move to this one… MOST of it behind a paywall… so definitely don’t try this app. (Very shady). I purchase the pro version after being on their new version since it was released, and here’s everything wrong with it. Filters are all stuck in 2016 Instagram days, the touch features don’t make a difference to the photo and ends up adding a bunch of grain to it, images take a while to load in at the start with the loading circle on it, then saving it, as many have complained below, you cannot pic the size of it and the file type of JPEG or PNG. For everyone paying that absolutely should be an added option at bare minimum if most of their app is behind a paywall now and they USED to have it as an option. Customer service doesn’t respond to anything I’ve sent to them. If I could give 0 stars I would. For the price of these items in Afterlight this is absolutely not worth it. 3. 4/5Initial thoughts

After using the 1st Afterlight app for a few years I couldn’t wait to get the newest creation. I absolutely loved the 1st Afterlight, using it over any other photo editing apps. That being said, the newest version of Afterlight is very much the same except for the new “Fusion” and “Double exposure” features. While the features are nice and provide an additional touch to your editing they aren’t enough for me to justify the cost to get this newer version of Afterlight. In my opinion, if you already have the 1st version of Afterlight then you don’t have a need for Afterlight 2. Afterlight 2 does have an updated look and layout which is extremely appealing and easy to use. Overall it is the same app minus a few newly added features, which I feel shouldn’t have been a qualification for a new app and should have been an update to the original Afterlight. FINAL THOUGHTS, I am an avid user of photo editing applications so I would absolutely purchase Afterlight 2 again due to the overall experience and quality of the app. Afterlight is in my opinion the best photo editing application available for your smart devices!

  4. 5/5Wide selection of tools

I love the wide selection of of tools and filters that are made available. One of my favorites is the selective saturation. What I like about this app that others don’t do is that when you make a change. For example, slide the sharpen button up to 100 (the max) it will save the change as kind of a new image and put the slider back to zero but keep the changes. This lets you go beyond the limits of the slider by just putting it to the maximum multiple times I only gave it 4 stars because it does not truly support RAW editing. I mean, sure you can upload a RAW file but it will just turn it into a JPEG and let you edit from there. I would like this app to be able to take advantage of all the data stored in the RAW files so that we can make adjustments without having as much noise or distortion. I know this takes lots of processing power but I believe newer phone like the iPhone 10 and 8 have what it takes. I understand that this would be difficult and most people probably won’t use this feature but I would happily pay another $20 for this feature if it was made as an add on (just please don’t make it a subscription). I would like to see a burning and dodging tool as well (darkening and brightening in specific areas). Also can you add a layers system (kind of like photoshop) that way when we want to get rid of a change we don’t have to get rid of all the changes that came after it? Thank you for your time. I hope you take these thoughts into consideration for the future.

  5. 4/5Some feedback

I’ve been using afterlight for quite a while, it is definitely my #1 app that I use for editing. I love it so much so that I actually gifted my mom this app as well so she can have a simple, yet amazing app to edit her photos with. It is super easy to navigate! But there are a few things that I think the developers should put into consideration… When using the app from the photos app on iPhone… It sometimes turns black, the photo disappears and it is starting to get a tad bit annoying at this point… I am unsure if this is just me or what, but if someone from the Afterlight Dev team sees this, I need you to try to do this… Go to the photos app, choose a photo, press “edit” on the top right of the photo, press the three dots (...) that is just left of the red “revert” button. If afterlight isn’t showing on the tab that popped up, then go to “more” on the very right, then toggle afterlight “on” , then press done, open afterlight from the photos app (don't go to the actual afterlight app), then try editing, mess around with different tools and see if the picture you’re editing randomly turns black or disappears, and if it does then can you guys please issue a fix for it? Either that or make it to where I can modify the original photo from the afterlight app so i don't have a duplicate.
