   I freaking love this app! It has turned shopping for me into something that is full of anxiety and uncertainty into an enjoyable experience where I can be sure I trust the products I am buying and using. There are so many products that look “organic” and “healthy” for people but when I would go to read the ingredients it’s like… “how do I even pronounce that word? What even is that? I don’t know” and would blindly be buying things or left looking up each ingredient in the isle on my phone and being confused and wasting so much time with my partner getting frustrated at how much time I’m taking up in the store. With this app you can scan items bar codes and it will list out the ingredients and why they might be bad or good. What they’re commonly used for and the risk factors. I absolutely love scanning items and being able to see what is good and what is so so bad. The only downside to this app is that it is disappointing to scan a product and see that it’s so bad for you but it makes me feel so good to know I know what I’m putting into and on my body. The best part of the app is that it’s turned shopping into a little game where I have my phone out and can scan everything and not waste any time worrying about whether or not I’m making the right choice. I’m happy and healthy and my partner is a lot happier with the amount of time we spend in the store. :) I look forward to using this app when I can and the more I use it, the more I know which products I can trust and which I can’t. :)

   I love Yuka. This app has truly changed the way I shop. I love the scan and search features. The search feature is available by subscription, but you get to choose what you feel is right to pay. Yuka analyzes food and cosmetics and gives them a rating of “excellent”, “good”, “poor”, or “bad”. Any items that receive a “poor” or “bad” rating will also be listed with recommendations of similar items of better quality. This makes shopping easier and effortless. Yuka has a “top products” section for food and beauty, which gives the top 20 best-rated items of each category. This is extremely helpful when you’re looking for something specific. Yuka also saves your search history so you don’t have to search for a specific item every time. You can also favorite items you love, and those appear in your “favorites” so you can easily access those items. On the off chance that an item is not in the Yuka database, a prompt will appear after scanning allowing you to fill in the information about the product. After the Yuka team analyzes the item, it will receive its rating and has now been entered into the database. I highly recommend this app. It has made me a more informed and conscious shopper. I do wish that an app like this existed for pets. As much as Yuka has changed my life, it would be amazing if I could use it to improve my pets’ lives too!

3. 4/5great app, one quick tip for suggestion

   i don’t usually write reviews but this app is a game changer. however, there is one thing i’d like you guys to consider. I was diagnosed with celiac disease last year, and I just don’t really understand why you have to pay to scan the product for gluten. I already have trouble with some companies lying on their labels and cross contamination with gluten. I really don’t think I should pay for it if I can just read the label to see if it has wheat. I already have enough trouble trying to untangle these ingredients just to see if it has components of wheat. I’d rather not have to read a label every single time I grocery shop. I’d rather just be able to scan it. Also one more thing, Yuka displayed a product as good, no harmful preservatives, but when I looked at the label, it had six so I reported it and they fixed it and then they asked me if I want to email the company about this and that 700 people already emailed them. So riddle me this if you guys already know that 700 people are emailing this company about these preservatives then why did it scan as no risky additives or preservatives? Why did I have to report? It makes me feel like I now have to read every single ingredient. I don’t wanna have to call you guys out. I want y’all to fix this. otherwise it’s a really helpful app, but you guys need to take him into consideration people with allergies they can’t help. They have no choice and don’t want to pay just to not die. Thank you.

4. 5/5Life changing and getting better all the time

   I downloaded this app after years of dry, sensitive skin with cystic acne and eczema that wouldn’t go away. One of the things I learned right away was that an ingredient that’s in almost every cleansing product can cause eyelid and neck eczema, which was exactly where my eczema patches were. I decided to cut out all ingredients that sensitize, cause allergies, or eczema (which was challenging to find but I have). What is amazing is that over the last 6 months, my skin looks years younger, is not longer dry and itchy call eczema patches have gone away and stayed away without use of medication, my knuckles don’t crack all the time even in January in a bitterly cold climate, and perhaps best of all, I have now gone months without any cystic acne, which hasn’t happened since college. I used public restroom soap for a day of travel, and redness and dryness started to come back on my hands, so I now carry my own travel bottle of soap in my purse. I feel and look so much healthier and had no idea how many products contained problematic ingredients for my skin. I also have been slowly changing our diet with the food side of the app, which has been eye opening as well. Another family member using this app has also experienced similar results with her skin issues that are similar to mine. If you have skin issues, this app is for you! I can’t tell you how often this winter I’ve seriously just marveled over how not dry my hands are, how smooth my skin is, how clear my face is, or how not red my skin is! Thank you Yuka 😊

   To all the people giving bad reviews saying this app’s rating system is oversimplified, I agree. But if that’s how you feel, then simply don’t base your food and other product choices off of the score alone. It’s not like they give products a score and just tell you to “trust me bro.” The app is a wonderful tool for simplifying all the ingredients of a product, and it distinguishes the different levels of risk in certain ingredients. Just because it labels something as low risk, doesn’t mean they’re telling you that it’s forbidden to use or consume. It’s simply telling you what some research has suggested, and you can take that with a grain of salt. Maybe check out some of the sources they literally cite on every risk-labeled product. It’s great for breaking down all the complicated unreadable ingredients in a quick and simple way. I don’t have the time (or effort frankly) to do painstaking research on the dozens of products I consume every single day. I live in the US this is a consumerist society. Again, I don’t find the scoring system 100% reliable but that’s because this is an app and a lot of people wouldn’t even consider becoming more health conscious if there wasn’t some tool to dumb it down for them. I think I could have articulated this all better but I hope whoever, if anybody, reads this they get the point.
