  1. 5/5Great App for Backpacking Trips!

I've used this app for three short backpacking trips and for my daily walks around town for exercise to track mileage. It really performs well. It's accurate and quick to respond. You can add waypoints with descriptions along the route and even photos along the way. You can share your saved trails with the world or keep them private. It works great, but I was still considering buying a dedicated GPS device because I wanted to be able to plan trips and plot routes before a trip. I just found out today that you can even do that with Wikiloc! You can draw your map out on your desktop and it gives you the milage and elevation along the route. After you save it, you can download it to your phone and follow the route. The phone battery runs down fast compared to one GPS unit that I read has a battery life of 12 hours. I can see a few areas that would make it easier to use, but it's an amazing app for the price! Well done Wikiloc.

  2. 5/5LOVE this app. Just 1 issue.

I’ve been using Wikiloc for many (9?) years. I have a Pro subscription. I absolutely love this app. I’ve tried several other apps for hiking and this remains the one for me. There’s just 1 thing that drives me crazy. I hope the developers will listen! There are times I decide to put my phone on airplane mode to save batteries while hiking. When in airplane mode, every single time I check the Wikiloc app, to get my bearings, to take a pic, to whatever, it pops up a dialog screen that informs me that location accuracy will be better when not in airplane mode and suggests me make changes in Settings. This message is helpful once, maybe even once per hike. But it popping up every single time I open the app is just plain frustrating. And eats batteries! Please do something about this.

  3. 1/5Good app except...

I got this because it pairs easily with my Suunto watch. I like all the features and everything works great. What I don’t like about it is that it automatically uploads EVERY ONE of my fitness activities from my Suunto to the Wikiloc app. Plus, all those activities are immediately public unless I move them to a private list. There’s no way to turn the automatic upload feature off once it is paired with my Suunto. If someone doesn’t realize that all their Suunto fitness activities are public, then if they begin an activity from their house, the public trail shows the entire planet where they live. They need to incorporate a button that either turns off the automatic upload from their device or turn off automatic public without having to create a non-public list. Either way, I’m considering deleting the app because I sometimes do 2 fitness activities per day and I don’t need all that on my Wikiloc app. Edit: With iOS, there is no way to block or delete someone who is “following.” There is also no way to keep people from “following” you and your activities.

  4. 4/5Lots of potential

I’m just starting to use the app and am impressed with the number and variety of types of trails available. There is an opportunity for this to be an indispensable app if one likes to find new trails of all types. However it could easily become difficult to use if there are too many useless trails. It would be nice to have something like master trails that list an established trail from start to finish and have people post suggestions for sections of trails or combinations of multiple trails that can make up a journey. It would also be nice to have a standardized public transit section that describes if and how someone can get to and/or from the start and finish points of a trail.

  5. 3/5I would give this app a 5, except for 1 thing

Ok. Maybe two things. My main complaint is that all my trails upload as Public and I cannot find any setting to disable/change it. I’ve checked the settings on the web and in the app. When I first started using it, I forgot to stop the app after my ride and drove all the way home before I remembered. This happened a few times. I didn’t realize the trails were public until later, so anyone that could view my trails knew exactly where I lived. I now know to go in and manually change them to private. But doing so is a real PITA. Second issue was a bucket list trip to Colorado. I tried tracking our mountain trail rides, but the app kept failing. I believe it might have been due to poor signal in that area. It would have been nice to have had at least 1 of the rides mapped.

  1. 4/5

Used the app on a number of occasions. It took some figuring out and it's certainly well worth the subscription fee. As a suggestion, with AI technology on the increase, it would be interesting to add more accurate GPS reading, perhaps the ability to magically erase any wrong routes and backtracking from its walkers...just a suggestion. The only downside is, this is a power-draining app and your battery will flat out within 10-15 miles of hiking, so always come prepared with a power bank.

  2. 5/5

it's somewhat unusable without the Premium subscription but it's cheap enough to be a total no-brainer, around 2€ for three months is something I'm fully willing to pay for a service this good. Many trails, impeccable tracking. Very battery-heavy, though. I recommend disabling its ability to work in the background. There's a free trial as well to see whether your region has many recognized trails, so you know what you've paying for. Extremely useful app!

  3. 1/5

Worst UI ever. Even on Premium for the first few hours of using it, I uninstalled it. If you want to have any information on Hikes just don't waste your time with this app.

  5. 2/5

I am really disappointed in the app and website. There are no proper filtering methods or they cannot easily be found. I wanted to look for the best rated offroad trails in Albania and there is just no way to get a quick overview for the best rated trails. The local search radius (starts from here) is absolutely tiny. Some areas have 10x almost the same trail and there is no way to filter them out. The map view is unintuitive and difficult to view. Even with premium not good.
