5/5Annapolis Walking Tour: Where History Meets the Water
This was the third VoiceMap tour I’ve done and while the other two were excellent, this was my favorite. The author did a fabulous job of bringing the city to life through engaging stories and interesting comments. It is obvious she is passionate about the city. The tour takes you to various historical sites in a logical manner, starting and ending in the main downtown area. Pay attention to the directions while walking. They are detailed and will keep you on the right track and use the map only as a backup. The author brings history to life and explains the significance of Annapolis during the revolutionary war period as well as the contributions of enslaved people. Standing on the spot where Kunte Kinte was sold into slavery was chilling. I highly recommend this tour which takes only about an hour but is filled with so much information. After the tour we went back to explore some of the places mentioned in more detail. Going into the State House to see the room where George Washington submitted his resignation was a highlight. Actually reading his original letter with the markings and edits he made, forced me to reflect on this historical moment in our history. This tour will not disappoint. You can go at your own pace and not worry about keeping up with some tour guide or dealing with other patrons monopolizing the tour. Kudos to the author.

5/5Do it!
I took The Guilded Age Tour last week. What an enlightening self-guided tour through the elite and exclusive world of the late 1800’s - 1900’s! I’ve done other TellBetter Tours around NYC, and this is another that did not disappoint. Having walked past some of these mysterious millionaire’s mansions before, I had no idea of their amazing histories. It fills in the gaps of how the elite lived back in the day, and more importantly … how they got there - often by wicked ways. And the tour often bridges history to present day, pointing out some of the current or recent elites now owning them. It’s told with humorous anecdotes which creates a living history tour - not a musty museum version. The convincing character voices, music and sound effects and realistic audio production makes this tour convincing and realistic - the closest thing to stepping back in time. Do it!

4/5Solid core but a little rough around the edges
I've followed a couple of tours and found their content to be good. The app itself is easy to use on the whole, but I wish you could open up the directions to the starting point in Google Maps as I don't have Apple Maps installed on my phone. Some indication of the cardinal direction to the starting point (if navigating without using a map) would also be appreciated (e.g. "30 yards to the north" rather than just "30 yards away"). And this is quite minor, but I don't need to receive the whole "You've paused the tour. To resume..." spiel every time I pause. Once when you first use the app or even once every day or tour would probably be sufficient to remind most people. Lastly, there seems to be a minor bug with the download status where it shows the last map segment (I think it was the map) as not having completely downloaded until I restart the app. That happened for both tours I downloaded.

4/5Good app with potential to be excellent
Let me to start off by saying that functionality wise, this is a very exciting app. The audio synced to location works well and it’s an exciting way to explore a city on your own if you don’t wish to do an organized group walking tour. The tours I took through this app in Granada, Spain completely enhanced my trip to the city taking me to places I wouldn’t go on my own and giving me a ton of great information in the history of the city. That said, I found that the tours for other cities I used the app in (Seville and Madrid) were much less successful. This app runs on free lance content and it’s missing a lot of basic walking tours for popular tourist cities, and some of the tours it does offer for those cities are too niche to be appealing for most users. Hopefully this will change in the future if the app continues to attract creators but right now it’s missing some key content.

5/5Excellent App
We used the App to explore Pompei since we did not want to be restricted by a tour or pay hundreds of dollars. The App works extremely well, even offline. With a little patience in the beginning, you get the hang of it really fast and it was so smooth, guiding us all the way and playing automatically once we arrived at the sites. I will say, I wish it was more thorough, there was a lot in Pompei that the guide did not explain or walk us through but I guess it would probably be 6+ hours to cover it all, so I guess it makes sense to keep it concise. We decided to go all the way to the end of the tour then explore the rest on our own and it worked just fine. Overall, it was really worth it for my family and I!

I was in Inverness last week. While I didn't get to do this audio tour while I was there, it has helped me cast my mind back to being in a place that I love to visit whenever I can, thank you.

Purchased self guided tour for Metarie Cemetery. Downloaded app, and the tour map and all related files downloaded as well. Enabled notifications and location but the tour WOULD. NOT. START. upon arrival. It said it started, but it didn't. And when I told it to resume, it wouldn't. Waste of money and space. I ended up just using Google Maps to find the tombs I wanted to see.

VoiceMap published its 2,026th tour in the first week of 2026 – and that number has gone up almost every day since. Our latest additions open up the new destinations of Livigno and Cortina d'Ampezzo. There's a new option in Milan too, specifically about the Winter Olympics, so we're using that as the codename for Version 15 of the app. Welcome to VoiceMap Milan! Here's what you'll find: • 50 odd categories, from Architecture and Medieval History to Ghosts and Hauntings, Food and Drink, Crime and Mystery. Browse them on the home screen, use them to filter tours in a destination, or combine them with filters for distance and rating. Some categories span hundreds of tours. Others cover a handful – the kind of niche, personal tours that only a platform with nearly 800 publishers can offer. • Tour passes for a single destination, a whole country, or the entire VoiceMap catalogue. With passes, the cost per tour drops considerably, but every tour you choose stays in your library forever. • While our goal is to make following a tour so easy that you never really need to look at the map, from start to finish, we've now added numbered locations you can toggle on and off as you walk – especially when the app suspects you've gone off track and Ian McKellen chimes in with, "Not all who wander are lost, but it looks like you might be". • A rethought fallback start option that lets you begin a tour from anywhere along its route with numbered locations enabled by default. • Labels that indicate when a tour was produced with significant use of AI, whether that's for the script itself, the voiceover, or for translation. We hope VoiceMap as a whole stands for authentic, curiously human tours with insight from very real people, and it's because of this that we think it's important to note where a publisher has leaned on an AI tool.

This update marks the biggest aesthetic change to VoiceMap in twelve years. We've replaced our old literal icon, of headphones on a pin, with something more figurative – a red dot embraced by a winding route. The app's interface has also been refreshed, to help you choose between our growing catalogue of tours. There are well over 2,000 now, with new tours published every day by a community of close to 800 publishers. We're introducing two of them with this release: • Stephen Fry has reunited with the QI Elves to produce two Quite Interesting tours of London. You'll find all the wild tangents, nerdy footnotes and remarkable facts that you'd expect from one of the UK's most entertaining and intelligent panel shows. • History Hit, who make some of the world's most popular history podcasts, join us with two tours narrated by their founder Dan Snow. One follows the Great Fire that reshaped this great city. The other tells the story of Charles I, executed in front of his own palace. The new icon is a symbol of what we think VoiceMap has become: not just audio files pinned to a map, but an invitation to a more engaged, more meaningful kind of travel and a celebration of the curiously human details that make us feel like insiders, wherever we are – or wherever we go to next.

We've made searching in the app easier, with better sorting, clear labelling and the addition of something new: attractions. If you're looking for all the tours that take in the British Museum, for example, just search for it. Tapping on the result labelled Attraction brings up a complete list with a map and a description.
